For Arch the simple solution is make a snapshot with Timeshift. It can auto-snapshot daily or weekly/monthly, use yesterdays backup working system, wait for the updated fix, the solution to the problem usually comes in an update in a few days or within the week. (I usually just fix my system *but don't often have problems* but this solution is for people that want an easy hassle-free way to continue using Arch with minimal fuss.) 🙂

Why not make your own Arch spin? It's really just a matter of sorting out your package list. If it's in an ISO form then you can have different spins at different stages. You don't have to update arch, you can set the downgrade to keep what you want still. You can give my Arch spin a try if you like. Time for me to make a video about it and post the download link.

Personnally, when I first moved to linux, I ended up using Vivaldi as a replacement for Opera GX. While it doesn't have all of the gaming related features, it has alot of customability, a similar layout due to being created by people who used to be involved with Opera and it even has a mail client. The main reason I stopped using Vivaldi is due to personal issues with the chromium project, but since both Opera GX and Vivaldi are chromium-based, I do think that if you like the workflow of an Opera browser, you should try Vivaldi

Thanks for making video petition for OperaGX for Linux. I post a message in forums about this like 1-2 years ago; lots of Linux people want a browser but some are concerned about Opera being owned by a Chinese company that share data, so there is privacy concerns. Though I like the Browser look; I figured if they have Opera for Linux they would just have to make a few mods to release a Opera GX variant.

People, do not forget how and why gnome was started. Gnome was started because of the Qt licence back then. Gnome was started to be as Windows 95 like as possible (there is a reason why Miguel ended up at Microsoft). From the very start gnome was very very hostile against everyone not 'on their side'. And while KDE was busy creating programs to make life better, gnome usurped independent gtk apps and made them 'gnome apps'. Gnome 1.4 was at least usable - you just had to deal with a totally overblown CORBA system. It went downhill from there.

Why then all of my bug reports were perfectly accepted, and most of my merge requests fixing bugs were also accepted, but yours are often not? Both in GNOME and in Debian BTW. Well, *maybe*, as you yourself said, the issue is *you*? Oh, and that Felipe Contreras guy, his merge request description starts with, direct quote, "I know you don't care about breaking user experience". Such a nice way to start a merge request! I'm sure GNOME devs accusing him of aggressive and confrontational behavior were completely unjustified! /sarcasm While I agree that some GNOME decisions are very questionable, and they sometimes get defensive about it, I also think that they get way, WAY more hate than they deserve. And your video is sadly not an exception here.
@the_jr_dev
@the_jr_dev 23 дня назад
No, the hate is justified. Felipe's original merge request wasn't like that, and it wasn't me. They suck. I think it would be better if people like Christian didn't have gatekeeping status. I just sent a bug report a couple of days ago with Plasma and it was accepted. Some of the Gnome Devs are straight-up snowflakes.

Personally I love the gnome aesthetic, and how minlimist it is as I value that. My issue is how the devs handle things, and how it's there way or the highway. As much as I love how GNOME is, the fact they refuse to work well with other prohibits progress. It makes me so happy that def main(jr_dev): makes extensive bug reports but the gnome devs are being dicks about it. We can't progress linux if the devs refuse to play nice especially about important things such as bug reports or even what others have to say. I love linux and I want it to progress and for anyone and everyone who uses it including myself to contribute in anyway they can, and gnome feels like they are against these principles of mine. After seeing this video I will give KDE a try, use it for awhile to see if I like it. Good video and thanks for all the contrutions you have made IE bug reports!

I have been an intermittent Linux user since before GNOME's inception. GNOME has always been something which I wish would just stop existing. Aside from the fact that the software itself is garbage, the developers have a level of elitism which is completely unjustified and undeserved. They have a monumentally insulting view of users as technically illiterate orphans who should just shut up and eat their gruel and be grateful for it.

I have 4 old cards that I bought cheap for video editing. One day the video encoding part stopped working after an update. Only Ubuntu shipped the right combination of Driver and OBS version that I needed to keep running. Snaps is one thing I can't stand or flatpak. Firefox with snaps did at first run widevine, now it can't seem to find it and just errors all the time. Online banking is also a pain in Firefox Snaps, as it asks for an OTP every time I login.

Hyprland seems like it'll be pretty nice to establish a workflow, and customizing it seems significantly easier than most others. Between the level of default modification to the appearance and behavior and the plethora of add-ons out there that extend its functionality, Hyprland an absolute gem. You can even omit the tiling behavior from specific applications. So if you're like me like having your terminal transparent or like being able to move around a note-taking application while your browser or e-reader remains stationary, Hyprland doesn't necessarily interfere. Just change one line in the config and problem solved. (That's probably a function of other tiling WMs as well tbf, but I could never tolerate them long enough to learn how to utilize it. Another testament to how much Hyprland distinguishes itself from the crowd. I actually _despise_ tiling WMs, for the record. Hyprland is just cool like that.) Wayfire is still my favorite compositor overall though. It's got all the workflow benefits I had on a fully-customized GNOME except the devs aren't going to break it every time they push an update. But most importantly: *CUBE.* XFCe, Mint, Cinnamon, LXQt and more are currently working towards migration away from X11, but right now GNOME and KDE are your only options for a full working desktop environment under Wayland. If that alone doesn't tell you Wayland is good to go, I don't know what will. The _only_ significant problem I've had with either GNOME or KDE has been regarding Discord screensharing. That required installing another program just to establish access to other windows via XWayland and rerouting the application's audio output through my microphone input, but I did get it working. Building up a system yourself starting with a minimal installation, installing a greeter and a compositor, and configuring everything to run properly under Wayland... Yeah, that's difficult. But you can't honestly say "Wayland isn't ready" just because you didn't bother educating yourself. If you just want to install an OS and start using it right away, take GNOME or KDE for a test drive. But if you're willing to learn, find a compositor you like and work with it. There are solutions for almost every problem you could face. Few are handled directly through Wayland. Some are handled through the compositor itself. Some through portals. Some via application-specific workarounds, like Discord. (Multi-million dollar company can't pay one or two devs to update their application to add Wayland support and switch from pulse to Pipewire. <.<) Worst case scenario, you'll have to use a different program that's designed to work under Wayland.
@the_jr_dev
@the_jr_dev Месяц назад
What I meant was that up until recently, Wayland has just been a hobby for people. You quote Gnome adopting it? Well, they have the shittiest Devs in existence, so maybe that isn't a good example. Plasma, OK, maybe but tbf Plasma 6 is still unusable. I have no doubt that will change. Now, I've been following the Wayland progress a little and it's probably not ready for stable production, but I think many people can use it as their daily driver. Thanks for your thoughts.
