The Admiral's Own Big Band is part of the Royal Australian Navy Band. Selected from the finest Jazz musicians from both the Sydney and Melbourne permanent detachments of the Royal Australian Navy Band, The Admiral's Own Big Band has two CDs released. The first was called 'Compositions'. As the title suggests, all the tracks were written by the members of the band. The second which was released in 2016 is called 'Straight Ahead' and features arrangements from the band of Jazz classics and standards.
This is one of my favourite tracks on this album! Something about those melodies and harmonies just soothes the soul. That iconic piano part that appears throughout just makes me feel like I'm floating! LSMUN MCALLISTER you are one of my favourite composers!!
What a close and tight band this is. Intonation, technique dynamics and feel is superb, and I've heard many big bands. Oh but those several I've played in could ever sound half as good as this Admirals Own Band.
