Cute video. Prague was very fun to visit. It's a very pretty city with, as mentioned, several different architectural styles to admire. The really nice thing enhancing all this is that unlike so many other major European cities, Prague was largely spared from the bombings of WW1 and WW2 that significantly changed other cities' skylines and architectural styles forever. You can to glimpse what many other cities may have looked like if spared from such devastation, and all those pretty, old buildings were preserved and/or restored.
I'll take this video as a sign: On Saturday I'll make my way to Czechia for a two week vacation. I haven't been there since shortly after its independence in the late 90s. Unfortunately I'll be missing the drillfest in Prague by a day.
For people who are not from Czech republick, dont use word "Czechia"!!! It's stupid and most of us hate it. Use the words like Czech republick or Bohemia, that is what we know and like❤
I first saw this video right when I woke up and still groggy. I kept hearing her say Chechneya I thought I was in an alternate universe until I got a glimpse of the flag .I guess I'm still not used to the new name that's # 3 name change in my lifetime for them ie Chezhoslovakia ,Czech Republic and now Czechia.
Its more like Welcome to PRAGUE 1 lol. (Saying this as Praguer). I think we should promote other parts of the country, Prague is overvisited and overmarketed, there are so many of extremely unique and beautiful places in a top tier of Central Europe on a very compact distances outside of Prague. Kutná Hora, Písek, Karlovy Vary, Lipno, Šumava, Olomouc, South Moravian wine region, Beskydy, Krušné hory, list goes on.
I visited in 1990 just after the Russian occupation ended. It was still pretty grim. Some fools are nostalgic for it. They don’t remember the dirt and the grime the rubbish cars the limited food secret police controlled by the Russians that would arrest people for having the wrong opinions.
Thank you, but I am stubbornly sticking with Czech Republic, I don’t like Czechia, it sounds too much like Russia and Slovakia, this country is different than they are, far more western
I had to look this up, and I understand why they prefer the name change now. Seems far more Western - and progressive - to allow themselves the change vs. holding on to the past name now that I understand the reasoning: “The Czech Republic wants to be known as “Czechia” to make it easier for companies and sports teams to use it on products and clothing. The country will retain its full name but Czechia will become the official short geographic name, as “France” is to “The French Republic”.
The “Czech Republic” doesn’t make any sense in my language just as this is the case with most languages, that’s why I will never use the Czech Republic again, but always Czechia. Also nobody calls France the “French Republic”, but instead mention them by their official short name which is just “France”. Also so many countries have a (very) similar name: Slovakia and Slovenia, Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo etc.
I went to Prague, Xmas 1996. The city centre was quite westernised and commercial. But I stayed in the postal district of Braník, a hostel on the Vltava. That part was still very grey and drab but I liked it ans found it more interesting. I recall a tower block, classic Soviet style. It was residential apartments. On the ground floor was a kind of local store-cum-bistro. It served two goulashes throughout the day. The weather was icy but the delicious goulashes were steaming hot and served with bread. Far better than the McD in the centre. It was dirt cheap as well. I also went to the jazz club where Bill Clinton had played saxophone.
