I'm SOOOOO glad to see you are back in the shop! So, where do you get the programmer and where do you download the software you are using? Please supply some links.🙂
Hi eie_for_you, Thank you for the kind words. I bought the programmer from Aliexpress. It is an XCecu pro T48. The software, XgproV1267_setup.rar , was downloaded from www.mediafire.com/file/q808n105ibexkl8/XgproV1266A_Setup.rar/file .
Hi Tod, i have the same sinadder but there are some caps missing, ex. C25 and c25 sadly on the schematic there is no info of the value and orientation + and -, also the cap beside r44 is unknown, please can you provide me some info on the caps
Great video, I've learned so much from watching your different videos. I have a question on a 901DM that has very weak receive. It tunes up fine but can barely hear anything. It has a white noise type hiss and with a very strong signal you can only hear it faintly. It's a fine rig with no previous work /hacks from the looks of it. Any help would be appreciated. 73s Steve N5MSY
Hi Steve, I would start by cleaning the band switch contacts. Also clean the contacts on relay RL701 on the carrier board. Since you can hear a weak signal , this points to a problem closer to the front end. These old radios are notorious for bad switch and relay contacts .
Hi Dana, I have the diodes. Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with cancer , and have not been able to do much the last few months. I am recovering slowly , and hope to resume my projects soon. I will do an update on the 515a as soon as I am able . Thanks for asking.
@@toddanonymous5295 Take good care of yourself first and foremost. Its my humble belief we are in the exponential solution growth phase of Cancer solutions, weeks and months and AI making huge progress in genetic alteration war against Cancer.
Hi.... I have a 901DM on my bench and the clarifier does not work. I can't hear the relay open/close when I push the RIT button in. TX clarifier does work. Question! How in the hell do you get to the 1920 switch board? Do I have to take the entire front panel off?
Hi Josealeixes2861, I have been very sick the last few months but am slowly recovering now. I have a number of projects I'm anxious to work on and plan on beginning soon. Thanks for asking.
Great video a great learning experience for those who don't own this radio. Enjoyed it very much appreciate your doing this video very kind of you 73s Mike
Thanks very much for this series. Very interesting and well explained. I've just bought a TS830 and also have a TS530, so of particular interest to me.
Yup, you need to adjust the pre-selecter to the band you want, you'll get no audio out until you do this. This caught me. I just got one of these, and re-capped it. 73
Great video, lots of good info, especially the VFO servicing. My 901DM is 46 years old now, June '78 build and the VFO is getting a bit lumpy. Also got issues tuning up on 40. Loading control won't peak. Just keeps rising all the way to position 10 on the scale. l hope yours is now working 100%. Thanks for posting. 73 de Keith
I bought one FT 910D back in January. Seems the Attenuator Switch is pretty much broken. If it is half depressed I have a good reception, in any other position I have nearly no reception. And the S-Meter doesn't display how much output I have. I will trace all the cables and see if I can get the 901 back to service. On the good side: VFO is stable and not drifting, dial is smooth output is around 80Watts, but without a proper readout I won't try more. Any tipps are higly appreciated.
Hi Andre, Incoming RF is routed through the Tune Switch board ( PB 1720) before being sent to the RF board ( PB 1702 ). Switch S03 on the Tune Switch board is the attenuator switch that switches in R05,06, and 07 to attenuate the received signal. I would clean the contacts of S03 as it is likely the cause of your intermittent. It is a good idea to clean all relay and switch contacts as these are the major areas that cause trouble in these older rigs. Good luck
These Ft-901s were the top of the line radio in their day. I’ve been running one as my backup rig for a few months. Killer receiver and rejection filtering.
I bought one at a good price. I am thinking of using banana plugs so I can use different cables, however, I see on lines are grounded. Not sure how that will work out. I might test before committing.
Nice video. Learned something. I was wondering if the M (memory) enabled might something to do with digital display. Looking forward to the follow up. Fernando N2FQ/6
Hi Joseph, I'm sorry for the low resolution. My camera is a Canon Vixia HFR600. I will have to get a better camera as I want the videos to be helpful. In the meantime I will improve lighting. Please advise if you can think of any other improvements I can make . Thank you for the comment.
Hi Will, The battery pack is working good. I try to match harvested cells as close as possible. Also what is most important is using a battery protection circuit, especially with series strings. The charging current is low enough, and the maintenance circuit protects against both shorts and excessive charging. It is wise to be cautious anytime working with lithium cells. These cells also have a built in disconnect mechanism ( under the positive cap) that open the circuit with excessive current. Thanks for the comment.
I posted a long comment with a lot of helpful tips. I did not include any links. Even still, YT deleted it. IIRC, you can list me as some sort of a preferred commenter and I can post it. If you care to do that.
It looks like next to adjustment R741 up by your high voltage oscillator, it’s stamped “1675v ADJ” which would imply that the 1665ish volts you were measuring were actually very close to correct. It’s odd that the schematic calls for over 2300 or so.
Hi Skyler, I maxed the setting of the adjustment but still was unable to increase the voltage. I have solid state HV diodes on order and it will be interesting to see if decreasing the load on the HV transformer improves operation. This unit has a lot more problems and I am not sure it it is worth the time and materials to get this scope back into shape. I have a thing for Tektronix scopes , and once started it is hard to know when to stop.
When I was a little kid in 1962 the next door neighbor was listen to all of that stuff and amazed us kids when we used to go over and watch him work on that stuff
You R the "RF Whisperer" Just saying. Thank you for the detailed walk-through. Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd House On the Left. p.s. I noticed I'm subscriber 666 and I have to be honest, should I be worried? Ah... I'll risk it
