High Iron aims to promote the very best and most interesting qualities of the railroad industry. Compared to other methods of transportation that we as modern dwellers are accustomed to, rail is perhaps the most underappreciated and misunderstood, and we counteract that by showing what trains do, how they work, why they’re important, and why we love them so much.
I loved this game in my teens. When I replayed it in uni I ended up making a save file editor so I could play with infinite cash. It was such a great experience. I wish there was more to know about Chris Sawyer.

Coming from Germany, I enjoyed the California Zephyr in 2019 so much that I booked a round trip with Amtrak; four weeks in February 2023: New York, New Haven, Boston, Chicago, Washington, Philadelphia, New York. So relaxed travel and so much to see along the route. But there was a problem with a blocked route from Chicago to Washington, and the other route is only served three times a week! So I had to go one day earlier which was not really a problem but it gives an interesting spot on the rail travel in the US. Here in Germany the major routes are served every hour so if you miss a train, no big deal, there will be another one soon. On that trip I was at the station an hour before take-off because it would be a real problem to miss the train.
Why couldn't you use.propane or natural gas to heat the boilers instead of coal?? I just found this channel.I like American history although I don't know a whole lot about train engines.Great channel!!! The idea one viewer had about recirculating spent steam might possibly work with the use of a turbocharger. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm kinda out of my league here!!!
I like trains, and was even thinking of doing a round the country trip, you know, Southwest Cheif, Pacific Line, Erie Line. But, its a luxury. The country can barely afford the existing roads, much less some fancy high speed passenger rails, that nobody will use. If private companies can do it, great, but not with any taxpayer money. This promise of "it will improve the economy and help everyone" is how you end up with Billions in waste and cost overrun for an MTA train to NJ. And thats for the most commuted few miles in the country, NJ to NY. And guess what, it will still compete with Path, ferries, the buses (PABT, as well as GWBT) and people driving. ANd they think they can get it done, on a standard MTA fare. Meanwhile, property taxes go up to 20k a year. So, the question is this. Do you want a high speel rail, or do you want to ever own a home?
