I got one from ebay that was perfect in every aspect except the cable was slightly thinner, the paint was slightly rougher and the foam was slighly lighter color. I was convinced the differences were due to manufacturer tolerances till I compared the sound. The counterfeit was more open and the low end was leaner. Every detail other than that was exact. Another year or two they'll fix those differences and make the spund exact. I just don't understand how they got so many details so perfect.
They have fixed all the normal clues. I was so convinced I had the real thing till I compared sound. My reference mic was purchased from Sweetwater for $430, the ebay mic was purchased for $175. I could see in some songs the counterfeit being the better option. No more used SM7b mics for me. In one year they'll get it exact.
Thanks for this video. Good quick explanation. For our use I think the Podtrak will work better for us. I will miss the look. I really like what the Rodecaster looks like but I think for size and power connection...and especially the bottom I think will make a difference with users that don't know too much about audio recording.
The fact that in some cases the Fake SM7B sounds better than the real one makes a strong case about the importance of choosing the right microphone for each voice. Some voices will pair amazingly with the darker frequency response of a genuine SM7B, while others might benefit from the top end boost of a fake, or different microphone. Great comparison/analysis. 👏
i'd really like to have a quick feedback if possible; i'm about to buy this product and my question is: i have logic pro x; is it possible to record directly on my software 4 simultaneous microphones and each input separately? how to setup this; thanks
I'm a recording/touring artist. I have had a few sm7bs over the years and I really never liked them for recording. Now you got me wondering if I had fake ones.
Also, now I know how to spot a FAKE one easily. With my $300 Headphones I can instantly tell the amount of noise is way too much but I feel like even with cheaper $50 headphones I could easily spot it.
Are you 100% sure that the P8 is not a multitrack interface? Even the the H4n and H6n are multitrack when used as an interface. You just have to make sure you have the right drivers for your computer.
Seems to me that China is trying pretty hard to give us an exact copy of these mics for 1/4 of the cost. If they master the Unidyne 3 capsule and pneumatic shock mount, I'm not shure it would be worth buying a real one. If you want your patented designs to remain exclusive, don't have anything made in China. None of this was an issue for Shure when they had their mics built in Mexico.
You flip back-and-forth so fast people can’t keep up with the difference and you can tell from the comments people are getting confused which one is the real one and the fake one
thx, such a great video, i have the exact same macbook m1 max, i work in devinci resolve 4 to 6 k video. now some thunderbolts for instance to my monitor, also charges my M1 mx, I heard i need to keep the adaptor plugged in so it will override those thunderbolt charging. But is that bad to always keep the adaptor plugged in, it seems the only way to override the thunderbolts charging
GENIAL.... Hey have you thought about SHURE MV7 I got one for my wife and it doesn't sound like shure mic... And also on every touch we make on it it sounds terrible
Thanks man. Your video just saved my 200$ to buy the fake one. Maybe it is not bad, but I was planing to buy it from Ebay thinking that it was original.
I recently bought 2 one from Amazon and one from ebay. They are virtually identical. The older videos show the inner wiring where the real one is gold/brass and the fake is silver and the backpate has a R trademark. They fixed all of that on the one I got from ebay. Your video helped confirmed that ebay was indeed the fake one with the longer cable, easy to remove cable hole, and grey-ish filter. Everything else is identical
I bought and use a fake, and you couldnt tell, its my firm belief they come from the same place, a factory in china, someone was smart enough to make extra than shure has contracted them for and sell it online
Thank you Juts bought SM7B of eBay £180,, sent it back as the robber Grommets where coming out,, got full refund,,, Your Video was a massive help and confirm my thoughts it was a fake,,, but never thought it was possible ,, Fake SM7B,, Have learnt a lesson Thank You
The real one sounds better more details in the sound, I think I ordered a fake one on accident also the seller is writing me personally that it's a real one but we will see, because he is Chinese and he can't say the brand name but is saying it's a real one.
Desh5161 but from what it seems 99.9% of the sm7bs on eBay are fakes of they’re priced in that “too good to be true” category. I’d avoid eBay all together.
All the stuff you listed is good, but the problem is, with fake SM7Bs there's no consistent production traits, therefore they can hit and miss, its very difficult for the average person to tell, the only way to combat these fakes, is do what Shure recommends, buy from an authorized dealer. My suggestion is, if you're buying used, make sure to ask for the bill of sale. Question, can you show us what the inside looks like?
I've since sent these mic's back so I can't show you but I did look inside and it appeared to be identical to my real SM7B's including the color of the wires which I've seen other mention can be different.
It's not bad! But the handling noise is a non-starter for me. Any slight vibration comes through on the audio. I've since returned the fakes to the Ebay seller.
What you call quirky key sound being recorded, is due to your microphone is not suspended. You need a good microphone suspension. In my case it doesn't happen. It happens with all Zoom recorder, which got auto actuator; when there is no sound, mic is suspended by relay. This relay click are always recorded by all Zoom recorders; is very much annoying. I am leaving Zoom forever, except for the time-code generator-recorders for cameras.
Thank you for this video! I wanted to see if it would be possible to consume more power than a 65W charger when gaming or if 140W was just for charging the battery faster, and this was the perfect video for that.
After having the Mixcast 4 for about a year now I could not be happier. You can bring in 4 outside callers via USB Voip call, TRRS on back, TRRS on front right corner that uses channel 1 and Bluetooth all with mix minus. Yes! the pads and they have text letting you know what sounds are assigned to which pad and that's HUGE compared to other products. 4:47 that's a headphone/mic jack in front, TRRS.
I use the Mixcast to livestream sports for our local high school. I was thinking of getting the Zoom as a backup , but after your review helped me chose against it. The new firmware update on the Mixcast allows for some of the one touch features you mentioned. The sound pads are a big this for me, because I use them for commercials. It has multiple banks that the Zoom doesn't seem to have. I use the noise gate suppression to filter out background noise when I'm not talking.
Hi. My friend and I are planning to start recording podcasts together, but we can't agree on whether the quality difference between expensive and affordable microphones is really necessary. I suggest buying at least an RE20 or an SM7B, while my friend prefers microphones in the Podmic price range. Do you think the difference between these two microphones would be noticeable for listeners? Do you think we should go all out and choose established, high-end products, or would more budget-friendly microphones suffice? Thank you for your recommendations. Please help me, I've been sleepless for four days, researching only this topic. I admit that I am overly obsessed, but I want to do my job properly and cleanly. I am very talkative and warm-hearted, never hesitant to laugh, and I usually laugh a lot. I used to do Twitch streaming before, so I have knowledge about how to gain viewers. Now, I want to sleep, please tell me which microphone and sound card I should get.
thanks for the video! i have the 16" Macbook Pro M1 Max, with two 4k @ 60hz displays 'and' with my laptop lid open (so 3 screens in all), all at 100% brightness. i'm just trying to figure out how much watts a Thunderbolt 4 hub would need to power the Mac. all the benchmarks & numbers are way over my head & i can't figure out how to interpret the Activity Monitor CPU readouts. there are 2 hubs i'm interested in. one provides 80w & the other 60w. of course the 60w is my favorite regarding configuration. SO, do you think 60w power is enough? my normal tasks are having lots of Safari & Firefox tabs open, plus Mail, Messages, Notes. i work in Photoshop mostly and occasionally dive in to small Final Cut Pro projects. i often use apps like Handbrake to convert video files. but nothing hardcore. rarely i'll have a couple gig Photoshop file to work in. so in knowing all of that, i'm looking for advice on hub wattage. looking to consolidate 2 TB cables & an audio cable into just 1 thing to plun/unplug. thanks.
