Who would've thought that a decade of ignoring obvious issues with illegal immigration would eventually lead people to vote the one political force into power that actually gives a shit about it? This country has been going down the drain for as long as I can remember, lead mostly by the exact same coalition over and over again. It's time for a change. Besides, calling the FPÖ "far right" is nonsensical. Yes, they attract far right ideologues, in the same way that left wing parties attract communists, but that doesn't mean that far right ideas make up the bulk of their politics, no matter how much certain people would like to slap a label on them and call it a day. Give it a rest already. What happened in Austria is that more and more common sense approaches have been labelled as far right, and handed off by our supposed center-right party, and picked up by the FPÖ. In this new climate, every single party is more left wing than they were ten years ago, and the mass appeal still sits firmly in the middle of the political compass - it's just held by a different party now. Besides, somehow they catch more flack for their supposed extremism than the KPÖ (communist party of Austria). Openly advocating for an ideology that has claimed hundreds of millions of people? Completely fine. Advocating for the basic rights and principles your country was founded on? Now you're an enemy of democracy itself.

The most boring course I ever took in my life was postmodern cultural theory. I found it to be an incredibly tedious way of saying very ordinary things, it hides anything worth saying in a blizzard of nonsense.
