I'm a guitarist, guitar tech and instructor with a bend towards light hearted fun content! Here you'll find helpful tips on how to work on your guitar specializing in Fender Jazzmaster and Jaguar guitars and some ridiculous videos I hope you'll find humorous!
And now I have to get a CS Princeton and a matching Surfybear. That’s the sound I want right there. I have a Super Reverb Reissue and a White Whale v2 and though it sounds great, it’s not quite there. You’re right seems to nail that sound.
No neck shim? It needs a neck shim. Leo said so! Seriously. Jazzmaster's were designed to replace jazz box guitars which have a bevelled neck. Leo has been quoted multiple times saying that the necks should have a shim. Why Fender doesn't do it? I don't know. Doing this clean's up most of residual string rattle. Had a "tech" tell me, "Oh they just rattle like that. It's part of the sound." Uh no, it's not part of the sound.
man how do you get that grit sound? ive been trying to make my jazzmaster sound like that. its awesome. i have a squier vm jazzmaster and a peavey transistor based amp. any ideas on pedals to get something similar?
The heel truss rod adjustment is possibly the worst idea in all of guitardom along with Rickenbacker using their narrow six-string neck on their early twelve-strings, making them virtually impossible for most adults to comfortably play. These thigs make no sense at all. WTF was Leo thinking? I mean, it's not as if virtually EVERY other electric guitar with an adjustable truss rod didn't access it from' the headstock.
Damn Im addicted to Fender Ive got the Fender "F" tattooed to my wrist but everybody thinks its a 7 and a gang symbol lol I'm jealous that you worked at Fender
Congrats! That's a real beauty! And what a cool story. I've got a 1990 Gretsch 6120 made in the Terada factory (I believe). I bought it new in 1991 on my birthday and will never sell it. 😊
My Jazzmaster is made in USA and the first string often breaks while bending it, I use 10-46 strings, how can I solve the problem? Mine is called “ Fender American original 60’s” and the bridge is replaced to a mastery bridge.
I wish I could add a picture; I offer and make a permanent mod to the guitar that lets you use the "Truss Rod Crank for Tele" tool in real time. This is the old timer’s way and most techs’ I know can't see the reasoning or effectiveness of this method? I just did one of these too, the customer was very happy with his instrument. A previous tech had left the customer not so happy. thanks for the vid
000 steel wool is much easier than all that to clean the neck it will also remove any crud from the wood and open it to the oil, properly done that is. I never remove the neck for this process but ensure the neck screws are tight and not stripped. You can also use some silver solder for nasty fret dings with some proper files from SM. I hold, keep the neck suspended for intonation like I am playing it, it keeps pressure off the neck but is easier for me? thanks
thank you, i just came across this video. good review. since this video was made, i invested in a stainless steel cast of the string tension bar. now stronger and you are welcome to use the bigsby with it, if not for just a trapeze setup
This is great info! I am considering getting a Heritage H-530 (it has a trapeze tailpiece) and need to have some sort of tremolo set up that is preferably as non-invasive as possible. If this arrangement with the tension bar and bigsby b-6 work well, then that makes the decision a pretty easy one!
@@joshuarussell4803 measure from the bridge to the bottom of the guitar, if theres 8 inches of space then you can use the B6 kit with string tension bar, if not, then the B3 with string tension bar
