Stables designed so horses can’t interact. High brick between stables so they can’t see each other and bars except for over the door. They can’t nuzzle or groom each other. ‘Beautiful stables’. Did anybody ask the horses? It’s more like a prison for them.
Saw her preformance when whe won with Glamourdale the world championship ..so talented and what a different feeling i have watching and listening her speak about her horses than someone who is currently making headlines ...
If that’s the truth yes that’s sad but they could have different pasture schedules I mean I don’t know the barns private life and how things work but I wouldn’t assume they are always in a stall
Please give them all some apple. Do they get turned out ,? They need to run and relax in a field, they are horses, and hard animals. Please let them out. X
Thank you for the greater insight, just a peek, but very enjoyable. I really enjoy listening to Lottie. Her whole being is infused with the love of her horses, and it seems the same for them. This, for me, comes a long way against the usual cut and paste whiners who are always first to any dressage video. I loved this. Keep it coming!
Hi, I just discovered your channel today and love the interviews you have done so far. I can't wait to watch the Isobel and Kyra podcasts when you have done them. Follow your dreams!
these horses bring their owners money and achievements and they do not get even a moment of freedom in the pastures from these people, this is very sad to watch
Sorry Lottie, since you went East, and learned Rollkur, I have no respect for you. Abuse should never be a training tool. No matter what--Charlotte Dujardin will _always_ be better than you even if you have more trophies. The FEI is looking away, and you know it, and, worse still, you take advantage of that at the expense of a beautiful creature. Shame on you. Sleep well at night? Probably, because you're brainwashed. 😵💫😵💫😵💫 Charlotte Dujardin isn't a sell out. She really loves her horses and has integrity.
Thank you for such a kind and lovely comment, Sandy! My hope is to ask the questions that aren't usually asked to these top athletes. Your comment made my day!
She does NOT know how to feed a stallion!! Your encouraging Bad behaviors keeping the apple and letting him bite your palm...called Teasing, Dont Tease a stallion! Poor boy.
Honestly, this was driving me crazy to watch the non-stop treats. Then others were banging on their stalls for treats. Otherwise enjoyable but that was really distracting.
Sure, why not tell her how to train a horse. I don't know your credentials. I know hers. She's the best rider in the world, and the horse is the best trained horse in the world.
@tomsoderberg9441 while I understand what you're saying. It doesn't take a gold medal to know that giving horses nonstop treats creates pushy demanding horses on the ground, not necessarily under saddle. I've had horses and worked with them for 35 years. You can see it in the video; the horses are banging at their stalls and nippy, it's rude and undesirable behavior, but some ppl don't mind it. It would drive me crazy to walk past their stalls and have them freaking out for a treat every time kicking their stalls. Many of the stallions they have at Van Holst are large Dutch Warmblood stallions with pedigrees known for being very hot and sensitive. More power to them for training these reactive horses. However, I wouldn't be giving this type of temperament nonstop treats. Personal preference, as I feel it makes them much more pushy on the ground and in hand. Also, just because she has a lot of high achievements doesn't make her the BEST rider in the world. There's a lot of criticism of their riding and the behind the vertical hollow frame they ride in. She does ride beautifully, and I know these horses are a tough bloodline to work with, but many ppl argue their training is not correct dressage. Certainly light years away from my skills as a dressage rider, but I do have a lot of experience with horses and their behavior.
She states that her main daily goal is to keep Glamourdale going “small”, a smaller quicker tempo ? Does she mean not in extended form or is this to some how an effort to preserve him
I saw somewhere else they said they don't work extended trot (I believe that was the gait) very much. But it could be something entirely different, as you mention
Henrik has a beautiful stable, with lovely horses ! He and Janika have worked very very hard to get to where they are, now ! Congratulations to them, and good luck to them ! 🍀🍀🍀🍀
wow , that was a cool video thanks ! I visited the Van Olst barn many years ago during the heyday of Valegro and was surprised how unassuming , natural and friendly they were. Their stables are very professional without fancy airs and graces , great visit , great horses.
I worked in one stable in Germany and yes, horses went out for 1 hour on pasture, then back in the stable. In the afternoon, they were ridden/lunged for half an hour or sometimes 1 hour. Otherwise, they were in the stable all day, all night. It wouldn't surprise me if these horses are spending all day in the stable as well...
No such thing as perfect. I despise that word. I just believe in doing your best, and if the horse is feeling good and you stay out of his/her way things work out :) Henrik seems to be a down to earth guy and it's great he's # 1 rider now. However, my fav equestiran is McLain Ward of USA
Lottie was very fortunate to arrive at your Equestrian barn doorstep and expertise! She has surely done you proud with her stellar performances. Enjoying from Canada.
Lottie was brilliantly trained by the great Carl Hester. When she was out of juniors, Carl said ‘well, i’ve already got a charlotte and we don’t have space for another adult on our yard’. He then phoned Anne and said ‘i’ve got a brilliant young rider for you’. The rest is history.
I hope she realises (until it’s too late) that horses are not everything in life and absolutely cannot replace a family, children etc. Growing old and not having someone who is there to hold your hand and sharing your dreams and stuff is just a waste of life. Olympic medals and glory will eventually fade but what you leave behind in terms of family, children is what makes life worth living. All the best to her.
Why was this comment necessary and I bet you wouldn't post it on a male dressage rider's video. It is incredibly rude and uncalled for and whether ANYBODY has children or not isn't for you to judge. Plenty are happy without a child and have lots of other family and friends in their lives. Having a child doesn't mean they will be there and sadly, a great many older people are barely visited by their children. Charlotte is only 27 and wants to achieve more in her dressage career right now which is her choice. The other champion dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin has had her sweet baby girl at 38 this March.
Oh yeah, children are there to give you a glass of water when you're old? Nope. Wrong. Time to let go of this soviet-time narrative and actually plan for your old age on your own, including socializing and Hand-Holding.
So excited for this episode! I adore Lottie Fry, and it has been amazing to see how much she has improved as a rider---I can't wait to see more from her in the future
Without watching the video, the horse looks miserable in the thumbnail 😮. After watching the video... None of these horses greeted this man like a herd leader. Just saying what I see.
