I'm David, the son of Sergio and Naomi Corsi. I'm sharing the painful news that my father Sergio passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022 after a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. I’m so proud to say I am the son of such an amazing man as my father Sergio. His love for his native Italian language and its literature was well known to many and he devoted his life to the practice of teaching it to thousands of students over nearly 60 years. With Doctorate degrees from both the University of Florence and The University of Chicago he went on to a distinguished 47 year career as an Italian Professor of Modern Languages at Loyola University Chicago, retiring only at the age of 80. His love for teaching was only eclipsed by his love of family and his Catholic faith. He loved me completely, his daughter-in-law Linda, and was a doting Grandfather to my children Marissa and Christopher. My father’s first love was for my mother Naomi, who proceeded him in death nearly 2 years ago after 49 years of marriage. From the moment he fell in love with the young American physician staying in the same apartment building in Florence, he changed the direction of his life in service to that love. A life that started in the rolling hillsides and vineyards of Tuscany during a time of war somehow found its way halfway around the world to Chicago where he became a US citizen, taught generations of students about the cultural heritage of the land he came from, and started his small loving family.
