From a Black man-this felt like a Tyler Perry horror film. The film tried so hard to hook a Black audience by relying on tired tropes instead of just being an actual film inspired by the Ammons haunting. This was an embarrassment.
It was disturbing how both versions of herself just left their bodies laid out on the bathroom floor with no covering, no propped up on a pillow or bed. Already foreshadowing that she had no respect or regard for her body (in such a vulnerable state!) The pop out boob very tasteless and unnecessary!
This movie was terrible but funny because of comedy. Black women's pain and trauma is a cash grab by poking fun, dehumanizing and scapegoating. Precious traumatized me too, not a fan of Lee Daniels but the " smell your nappy 🐱" was outta pocket and unnecessary. 🤦🏾♀️
The mother is waaay too unlikeble. Why did they include an Asian guy just for her to say racist things to? They tried to hide behind religion so she didn't have to apologize for any other things she did or said. We also don't know why she's divorced but the end she's going back to her husband? Why exactly should I root for that?? This film was too frustrating.
I was screaming at Ebony to send the kids to their father because she had so many issues. I rather for the children to have a safe environment than to suffer. But then again, the child actors brought more to the table in this film
I loved how committed and confident the ending was! This film had SO MUCH going on - addiction, body issues, aging... I am still spinning from seeing it three days ago. Love your energy and enthusiasm for this. Yes!
I remember watching Gothika and I thought that it was good but I also need to revisit the movie because it's been a very long time since I last saw it.
Definitely a standout in Demi Moore's career, in a good way. I hadn't seen Margaret Qualley in anything yet, either, but I guess she's been getting around. I will definitely keep looking for her after seeing this. I didn't know until after I saw it that she is Andie MacDowell's daughter! (Speaking of aging gracefully, Andie is also doing that quite well, I think -- and I hope that Margaret does, too.)
Comment for the spoiler portion: … … … When she mutated at the end, it wasn’t just for some reason, she injected herself with the one time use activator a second time, and the monster is the “other her” that grew out of her back.
The Substance was a top tier movie and theater experience for me. I'm happy you had the same excitement. I look forward to watching more of your reviews!
2024 is just an amazing year for excellent horror movies! I just saw this movie and I was blown away! I thought "Late Night With The Devil" was my favorite of the year - "The Substance" has now taken the top spot in my humble opinion.
Great movie. I feel like beyond the director's clear love for Cronenberg and splattery b-horror, I'm convinced she has to be giving a big nod to Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls as well - especially with how shamelessly horny, satirical, and campy it all is!
First; your makeup is glowing. I had to stop at spoilers till after I watched the movie. Over 50 and doing the damn thing, that's what I'm talking about. You have me even more psyched to see The Substance.
This is easily one of the Best movies of the year. It was so gut wrenching and visceral and gross and gorgeous. I know it'll never happen because it's too weird, but I agree that this deserves awards recognition. If for no other reason than the make up and VFX. So Good!
Like New Nightmare, but love FvJ I was one of those people in the theater cheering Jason on lmao 🤣👍 also there was also a none filmed alternate ending where they both get dragged down to hell with Pinhead. The film gave me the old school vibes, with the unmemorable kids that were douchy lmao
I just looked up Alexandre Aja, and I didn't realize I was already familiar with so many of his films! I didn't know he had done Crawl either. I remember thinking it would be really silly, and ended up really enjoying it. I was already intrigued by this one, but your review is giving me more anticipation. 👌👌👌
Your review has got me excited to see this. Although I respect Halle Berry as an actress, I don't think her acting is all that great when it comes to drama. But, because I'm a great fan of all things horror, I'm definitely Gonna check this out!
Wasn't sure I wanted to see this one, but you make me think I want to give it a try. I encourage a spoiler review but I won't be able to see it till I get around to watching the film. Thank you for the review.
How is he Shelley annoying he's one of the best Friday the 13th characters besides Jason and tommy and is the reason why Jason got the mask on the first place and part 3 is my favorite of the franchise
@@HorrorFreq Shelley is one of my favorite Friday the 13th characters he was the best character in part 3 besides Jason and Shelley is possibly the most relatable character in the Friday the 13th franchise I found him to be funny Larry zerner played Shelley so well he ended up being in my top 3 favorite Friday the 13th characters 1.Jason 2.Tommy 3.Shelley
@@HorrorFreqi agree with spider Shelley is one of the goats of the Friday the 13th franchise of it wasn't for him Jason would have never gotten the hockey mask and Larry zerner did a great job as Shelley in part 3 infact when he got taken out by Jason I nearly cried
@@nightmarefiles1 So it's not just me! That place really doesn't want us talking about it. 😨 Did you experience any tech issues when you first made the video?
@@mr.danandhorror4230 Thank you! It's the type of movie that is most fun with an audience. I saw it in the theater and people cheered for their favorite like it was a wrestling match.
