Imagine being outside on a hot summer night or cold winter day, 70-80 years ago and you are meditating, thinking of how nostalgic and powerful this whistle is. Wish I could go do this one day.
Now your fired and going to prison, how can you not pull the switch and keep the train going straight now you cost two people their lives in this scenario you should be really ashamed of yourself.
Wish we had those sounds around here in Chicago. Last year the UP Big Boy came through. It was a great whistle but that 6 Chime on this video would send chills through every one if that steamer came through here.
That sounds beautiful. This very sound symbolizes an era where industrialization and technological advancement were the talk of the day. And for many of the time this sound must have represented progress, and civilization it self. Thanks for the upload!
Really strange hearing that horn on _that_ engine. I love the RS3L, but hearing an iconic horn from the 80s and 90s on a Pennsy unit, especially a Doodlebug.. Is really jarring. By the way, if I had to pick on horn in all of history to represent the Super Seven era, it would be the RS3 - UP, ATSF, BN, CR, even CSX and NS had a few. With a few notable exceptions like SP and their P3s, most railroads seemed to like the Leslie S-3, at least until the Nathan K series started gaining popularity.
