Put oil in there and see if the compression goes up. It’s easy to replace the headgasket on this engine and there may be an issue with the valve not sealing properly. Could be due to carbon. And that’s why no compression. Don’t let this legend die!
It would be cool if you got a T1 Transporter van to go out to your repairs with. It would be hard to find in the US as they were never sold here, and a lot of work to import now, but maybe a long term goal if you're interested. I know I want one but would first get a 300GD, something they do import here once they become 25 years or older. That's my goal.
I would never thought someone would steal diesel...maybe gasoline! I can almost guarantee there is rust on the the metal rod in the fuel sender causing the float to stick on the rod;therefore, showing fuel on the gauge! My 1985 300TD wagon is same color combo! 35:38
Hi Vito, I enjoy watching your videos and learn a lot from them. I know that this is off topic, but long ago I watched one of your videos where you smeared marine grease on the under floor of your dad's mercedes. Is that a lifetime fix to prevent rust ? Will dust stick to the film of marine grease and damage the metal ?
Grease and fluid film is the best rust protection and prevention. Use it for your undercarriage, floors from the inside of the car and bottoms of the doors etc. I’ll make more videos about it soon. It’ll be on a BMW E38. So be on the lookout for that video. It’s a lifetime protection but sometimes you have to reapply it. Some dust will stick to it but it’s not a big deal. I’ve done this procedure on a lot of cars and everyone is happy. For your floors, however, it’ll protect them too. But you need to make sure you have no water leaks too
You've done a lot of work there. I would always have checked the tank first. When you removed the line from the fuel pump (tank line), diesel would have immediately leaked out and you would have been sure that the pump was broken. So you had to screw around wildly Ultimately you find out that there is no fuel. The vacuum pump for the ZV should be under the back seat, but you know that. Greetings from Northern Germany
Like I said in the video, what tricked me is that my friend said he filled up the tank fully. But that’s okay because that mechanical lift pump needed to be rebuilt and cleaned anyways. Because that’s never been done on this car
I guess it's weird in the US because you have central locking a lot. For European cars, usually under/un-specced, having the key-locked fuel cap is pretty standard on older Mercedes
I have ML430 and was changing the drive belt and i seen the slack in my bearing and noisy idler so i ordered OE parts and a thermostat as well while in there, and do the cooler seals,at the same time...
Was looking at a more modern car as a "secondary" holiday car. Opinions on w202 with M111 ? I feel like i will be disappointed after an unkillable diesel 300D.
Nothing else needs to be installed. You need to watch this second video though ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hO1A6DHzTjg.htmlsi=t4rup2SPx_BRq0a2
HELLO.i I own merceders w124 1994 year edtion.mine original locked pult works an I see when I pushed up red and green close and open on my door signalizacion, but do not hear the noise compressor do not works.and the button do not work too one push close the door.if you know what is my problem and what I should to see first?
Another awesome vid. Just hit the thumbs up & the subscribe button. So cool to see the W123 300D Turbodiesel make it to the very top. That's continued to be my #1 favorite Mercedes Sedan. The only reason I have an '83 240D w/ stick shift as opposed to an '83-4 300D Turbo is that it's SO close to the 300 Turbo on my favorites list and has little less electricals & therefore appears to a little bit simpler & slightly cheaper to own. I've had some runners up for my favorite sedans from the W126 S-Class which include the gutsy 560SEL along with the one that started that trend in 1968 and lasted thru most of '72, the 300SEL 6.3. And one of my newest runners up is 1986-7 300SDL along with the 1990-1 350SD & SDL and 1988-91 shorter wheelbase W126 300SE. I originally didn't like the SDL tradeoff because I first just wondered why Mercedes wanted to put the smaller displacement diesel engine into the long wheelbase S-Class instead of keeping it in the shorter wheelbase S-Class. But it grew on me massively over the decades since. The first 300SDL was the same size CID as the 5cyl. 300 but 6 cylinders & more powerful, even slightly torquier than the 3.0L 6-cylinder gas engine which was higher revving and had more horsepower. With that, there was justification for putting into the long wheelbase S-Class making the SDL. But I'll still never have QUITE as much love for those S-Class sedans as the 240D w/ stick and 300D Turbo in the W1223. Also, the W123 is cheaper to maintain and/or fix than the W126 S-Class.
I think it's awesome you "young" guys love the older cars and are willing to work on them! You are rare among young people today! I was the same as you when I was your age! My friends were into Chevys, Fords, etc., but I was into the Euro stuff! This was odd here in the south (North Carolina)!
No You are absolutely not right, it can happen, there should not be necessary a stop sign. In that case there is the rule "right before left" If you don't stop in the intersection to check the upcoming traffic then you have a problem and you are not good enough skilled to drive. That's important. All the other stuff you say in the video are excuses. You and especially Leo should have stopped to check the traffic and you didn't, so... It is to be expected.... I hope, lesson learned the hard way...
Lol what?? The dump truck driver should have stopped, especially seeing us driving and knowing that he is pulling a big trailer. That’s impedance of traffic also..
@@VITOSGARAGE Even if you are right, you should always stop to double check just in case... i mean, better safe than sorry... There are always crazy people driving out there And if he was from the right he had priority, just simple driving rules...
@@yiannistsiarektsis3215 whatever you just said I have the same thing to say to that dump truck driver who decided to pull out from behind the bushes. It’s dumb not to have at least 2 stop signs or at even yield signs. It’s very very unusual. Most of the streets in the US have at least 2 stop signs on any intersection
@VITOSGARAGE thank you for the reply. Do you know if it's possible to disable the locking mechanism on my existing lock rather than replace it? My car is currently stuck in a public parking lot and needs to be moved asap
Thanks so much for the video. Absolutely awful design. It's the same on Mazda 626, same as Ford Laser or Ford Telstar in Australia, for the 1982-1987 models. Captive rotors.
Nice. Vito youre great and your newer vids are great too Point of note for om617 and other5 cyl: camshaft rotation per cylinder is 144 degrees rather than 180 You will necessarily adjust the valve clearances with the re-installation of the rocker arms My good old 84 300sd "Fed" is finally producing very little smoke !
