My name is Lena, and I am a college student at St. Lawrence University. I am a senior pursuing a double major in English literature and Francophone studies. Reading and books have been my passion ever since I learned how to read. As of now, my plan with this channel is to upload content split between these two aspects of my life, but we'll see!
If you ever have any questions about college/St. Lawrence University feel free to DM me on instagram @lenadianne_reads.
If you haven't already, I would love for you to subscribe!
What's the best FYP to take. I got the Our Animal Kin: Exploring Human-Animal Relationships, and I don't really like writing. Do you think its possible to change the FYP?
Does the wall poster message allude to the nine US Supreme Court justices and RBG to the former associate justice or simply to "red black, green"? Thanks 🌹
Hello!, international student applying RD for St. Lawrence here, honestly everyone says bad things about STL because its cold, old, boring or small, BUT THOSE ARE ALL GOOD THINGS FOR ME I LOVE IT!, also seeing your videos helped me to take the decision to apply :)
Aww! I remember my last move-out feeling bittersweet. Congratulations again on graduating! I miss the campus a lot. I'm planning on returning this summer for my 10th Reunion. :)
Congratulations on completing your finals at SLU, and welcome to the Laurentian Alumni! When I was at SLU, I lived in Rebert my first year; Dean Eaton my sophomore year, and again in the spring of my junior year when I came back from France; and I lived in Sykes my senior year. When I returned for my 5th Reunion, my best friend and I asked each other, "How did we live in rooms this small?" Lol. Can't wait to go to Reunion next year!
It must feel so good to have finished your Middlemarch and Anne de Bretagne projects! Congratulations! Also, I got Book of the Month as gifts for friends and family in the past. I should consider getting myself one. :)
Hey there from Marietta Ga! Thinking of touring Lawrence U. However we want to know,,,, do students remain living on campus sophomore thru senior years?
So exciting that you’ll be graduating from SLU soon. When you graduate, do you think you’ll keep making college-related content, or will your RU-vid channel be focused on books? I really enjoy your book reviews, btw. They are always so thoughtful.
I will probably make a video here or there about college, but the amount of college content will decrease. Book videos will definitely still be happening, I am just trying to decide how much I want to step away from college content.
I love Pride & Prejudice! I first read it in the 10th grade and read it three more times since then. One of my favorite adaptations of Pride and Prejudice is the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, a vlog adaptation created by Hank Green.
Enjoyed your video. I've tried a few times to read Middlemarch but couldn't get into it. You've convinced me to give it another go. Will also look into the Swimmers.
I learned a little about Anne de Bretagne at Middlebury, but I want to dig into some bios and learn more about her. :) That's so cool that you got to view Anne's book in the archives! :)
It was great! It was my second time there (I studied Spanish there in 2014), so I understood the seriousness of the Language Pledge. I was placed in Level 4 (Advanced) classes. I had two required courses: Grammar and Pronunciation. Level 4 students also chose two electives. My electives were The Great Speeches of French Political Rhetoric and Regions of France. They also offered Health and Societies in Africa, Autobiographical Writing, and Young People & Politics. There were also plenty of activities, clubs, lectures, and events outside class. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it! For Political Rhetoric, we studied and discussed different speeches throughout French history and even wrote and performed our own speeches at the end of the course. For Regions of France, we started talking about France overall, then we explored other regions each week: Bretagne, La Loire, Les Hauts de France, a couple of regions in the Southwest, and Provence. We watched a movie every Thursday evening, except during the week we studied the Loire. That week, we focused on poets of the Renaissance and authors like George Sand. We read excerpts of Jean de Florette every week before exploring Provence and watching the film at the end of the 6th week. We looked at the various regions' history, languages, stories and legends, famous works, people, wine, and cuisine. At the end of the course, we gave presentations on a French region not mentioned in the class or another part of the world we were interested in. For instance, one of my classmates talked about Napa Valley, CA. My presentation was on specific cities in Normandie and the D-Day beaches.
I have always wanted to read something by Pagnol after I watched Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources in high school French class. Sounds like a great program!
@@lena.dianne It is! Whether someone is learning an entirely new language or is looking to improve skills in a language they already know, I highly recommend Middlebury. :)
The size of Middlemarch can be quite intimidating for many people, but it has definitely been my favorite of hers so far. I also really loved Silas Marner, which keeps a lot of Eliot trademarks but adds a fairytale element.
So cool that you're going to be a Language TA and working at the language writing center. I found both places extremely helpful when I was a student. Hope you enjoy your last semester at St. Lawrence!
Bonjour! Hello! How is your research project on Anne de Bretagne going? We learned a little bit about her when we studied Bretagne in my Regions of France class at Middlebury. 😊
Hi, I really liked how you structured your video. I am about to study abroad in Nice, France this fall and I wanted to ask you about winter clothing. So I am from southern California and I've never really had to experience cold weather below like 55-50 degrees. Do you have any advice about out to layer clothing for the colder months? I get really uncomfortable when I have to wear too many layers duing that temperature. So I am worried about how I need to dress to stay warm/comfortable. I would appreciate any advice. Again, great video!
My best piece of advice is to bring some warm sweaters that are thick and fit well under a coat. Also, bring some lightweight gloves and something to wear on your head (I love Skida headbands). If your hands and head are warm you won't feel as cold. Although because I am from the New England I am used to 30-40 degree weather and it does not feel that cold to me. Thanks for watching!
Hi ! I'm from France so I thought it would be good for you to have my point of view ! Here we don't wear many layers ! You can just wear a long sleeves t-shirt with a coat, or you can add a short sleeves t-shir under if you think it won't be enough. But in Nice, the weather is pretty cool ! It's between 10 and 20 degrees from September to january. If you plan to travel on the south of France, espacially in Haute-Savoie and Savoie, make sure to bring a scarf, a beany and a pair of gloves. Also don't forget to bring a raincoat/waterproof coat and waterproof shoes !
Thanks for your videos. Wondering how you hang larger wall pieces like the cork board? Large Command strips? Getting ready to move my daughter to SLU!!! She is so excited.
I use the large velcro command strips because they seem to hold a greater weight. Congratulations to your daughter and best of luck with the transition!
Hey Lena, this is again an awesome video that gives a great picture! I understand that this single in rebert is different from Lee’s in terms of width, but would you say that most singles in the individual dorms are the same size? I’m going to be in Lee this fall so I kinda want to know what to expect haha…. Loved your lee room.
For the most part with a couple exceptions all singles in Lee are going to be the same size. Lee's rooms tend to be more square and Rebert's are rectangular. Glad these videos are helpful!
Hi! Lee does not have an elevator and neither do any of the other first year dorms (to my knowledge). The only dorm that has an elevator is Kirk Douglas (the new dorm). I personally love taking the stairs no matter what, but if stairs are an accessibility problem, then individuals are placed on the first floor. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
My sister applied to St. Lawrence University would you recommend it she got into 22/25 colleges she applied to she got rejected by U Of R, Cornell, and NYU but she’s choosing between SLU, UAlbany, UB, Binghamton, St. Francis College, St. John’s, Hamilton, Mary Baldwin, Iona, Manhattan College, Colgate, Marist, Russell Sage College, Fordham, St. Bonaventure, CUNY CSI, CUNY Hunter, CUNY Brooklyn, CUNY Lehman, CUNY City College Of NY, CUNY York College, and Syracuse
I like your book videos as well as your videos at St. Lawrence (Laurentian 4 Life!). I put some of these books on my TBR list. Also, I first found the "His Fair Assassin" series when I worked at a book store, but after seeing your videos, I decided to give the series a read. Starting with "Grave Mercy." :)
I will say I read Grave Mercy when I was 12 (prime middle school angst time) so I have no idea how it will read to an adult. But I still would love to hear what you think! Thanks for watching!!
Oh my gosh the chai at Dunkin is HORRIBLE, I agree. I also ordered it hot one time and it was cold and they didn't even mix the tea in XD. Great video Lena, congrats on finishing Junior Year!!!!!!
