For nearly 1100 dollars new, I'd be leaning toward rebuilding a smaller dirtbike from the 80's or 90's and have a much more capable and purpose-built machine when done, as well as something that takes a beating, uses proper motorcycle controls, and can be a better stepping stone for full sized machines later.
Shift levers on trail bikes are supposed to bend easily. If it were real strong and didn't bend easily, then all the forces of a crash on that side would transfer straight to the shift shaft, instead of the shift lever, and then bend the shift shaft. Once that happens you have to split the cases to replace it, and that's not fun. This is why no one should be installing those super strong, thick steel shift levers from BBR or whatever brand. A good thick aluminum shift lever is fine, because it will break off before bending the shift shaft. Otherwise, just stay with the stock unit that bends easily, it's designed to be that way for a very good reason.
Newsflash Redneck! There are no more Jap motorcycles. They are ALL built in China AND have been for decades. A Suzuki is the same as a Yamaha is the same as a Kawasaki , they just have different plastics. YOU should get out of the barn more often.
Stock they are reliable but lacking in power and torque they don't exhaust well and don't bring air in well old engine design but you tune it do some upgrades mainly carb and valve lashing timing advance air to fuel ratio and sprocket and it will come very close to better than the older Japanese dual sports for the price cant beat em for the money.
As a woman, comfort and safety are my first priorities. Great video. Too bad the stock gas tank wasn't a real one on top. This would be my first choice if buying one
Im gonna buy Chinese. I cant support people asking too much for used vehicles or property. They are out of their mind I understand some things are rare, but in this case with used dirtbiking and used motorcycles people are just gatekeeping the hobby
Same here, I got so tired of looking for a good used Japanese trail bike, only to find beat up ones that were 3 or 4 thousand dollars. So I just recently bought the new for '24 Trailmaster T5 dual sport. Man it's a nice bike, really nice, and only 1699 in the crate. But I opted for the assembled bike at their showroom, so with tax, title, license and assembly, it was 2k out the door. Hard to beat that.
I've gotten mine to 80 down hill on the highway many times no speed wobble feels like you're in the Daytona 500 on this bike. I also took it to the highway recently on a long over 100 mile ride. Let me tell you that was some of the scariest riding I've ever done. She made it through the Colorado mountains and home at a whopping 30 mph on the highway going up some of those steep mountains as I listened to the engine sweat her ass off and just about ever bolt on this thing put to the test as she fought for her life being passed by geos and Priuses. never will I try that again. This is a mediocre trail bike/ride around town quick errands. Have 5k miles on mine would recommend very reliable but keep expectations real.
Really love it that you tackled the hilly rough terrain you did including going off tracks and continuous climbs. Essential information to know what these are capable of.
You seem to do a fair and honest review of these machines. Thank you! 👍🏼 I like the trails and land you have there. Cool looking bike even if it has shortcomings. This may still be fun for the same reason minibikes are fun. Riding almost anything is still fun!
Very good video I love hearing kids talk about carburetors and kickstarters back in the day you did not have everything give to you you had to work a little bit no seriously there is nothing wrong with carburetors and kickstarters
@@David-1-2-7not sure which bike you are referring to but I bought my son the mm212 and put a pred 212 in it. we did not even ride it stock. I ripped the carb off and put a aftermarket on and a pipe and it moves my big ass quick. does at least 30-35 i would say.
I have a mid grade build baja mb200 built for hill climbs and mountains the chain comes off regularly on gnarly climbs I bought a chain tensioner and it fixed the issue
Amazon doesn't ship the HAWK to California, so I read about Powersports on your comments. I'd still prefer a used Jap bike, but I totally get the novelty of owning a brand new bike that is meant to mod. Those backroad rides through the puddles, and over the clay looked like a lot of fun ! I haven't done dirt bike riding since I was a kid in the 80's.
The 200x was my first bike. It's amazing. I rode my buddies Coleman bt-200u and that thing is dangerous. It's fun no doubt. But coming from the 200x its like an entire different world. I can ride the 200x all day and feel fine. You ride the Coleman for 30 minutes and you're going to be feeling it. It's so jerky, vibrates like a sun of a gun and it's a testicle slapper but it rips and it was cheap 🤷♂️ the single front disc brake also basically does nothing. The peace of mind of knowing I can effectively stop when I need to is HUGE The best upgrade I've done so far is buying a road shock 8 inch LED spot/flood combo light to Mount on the front. The stock headlight mount fits it like a glove. Run the power to a small 12v tool battery and install the switch on the faux tank. Milwaukee 3A compact battery lasts all day of riding and the light is infinity times better than the stock garbage. Just don't forget to recharge it after lol. Also if you install a larger set of rear shocks you will also need to install a larger rear sprocket or fit a chain tensioner as changing the stock geometry of the suspension can lead to chain spacing issues pretty fast.
Hey buddy, I always try and make informed decisions on the big purchases I make. I’ve been thinking about this bike as an option. Thanks so much for putting out such a good review. Quality stuff my guy
I've owned one for a little over a year now. Stage 2 internals with a few misc upgrades. I can absolutely recommend the bike. The delivery was simple the assembly was easy and right out of the box it's an extremely enjoyable bike. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer
@@anon556 I ended up ordering it and put it together yesterday. Easy assembly with a few tweaks needed (it is a Chinese build after all). So far I'm pretty pleased
@@markcollins5026 Yeah I would never buy that slow, heavy XR150L. A neighbor of mine has one, and I've ridden it and it is lame. He paid right at 4k out the door. Now I just bought a chinese Trailmaster T5 dual sport bike for 1699, plus assembly, tax, title and license, so it was exactly 2k out the door. And it has a bigger engine, bigger frame, much, much nicer bike overall, better looking, and a LOT more features. I think I'm about done with the expensive Japanese trail bikes. I could buy two of these Trailmasters for the price of one XR150L.
