This was lovely. I’ve been homeschooling my son for going on 2 years and I totally agree with having to have full bellies. 😆 Reading outside in a tent is a great idea too.
I haven't looked at all the comments so maybe someone else already asked you about it, but I'm interested in the Notgrass that you have. Which program is it? I may be interested in purchasing.
I have a 6th grader who did pretty well in Math last year for 5th grade. Would this be an option for that grade level? We live in Michigan. Has anyone else had a 6th grader who is academically successful complete this ok and not miss concepts?
I am in looking at it, but I’m having a hard time deciding whether to get their regular Mac or the one that goes slower. I can’t think of the name for it. Also how did you decide what level to start your kids. Do they need pre algebra before the algebra ?
Do you have more info on the electrical apprenticeship couse? My son is interested in becoming an electrician.do you know what math level they should be at to start the course?
I use Gather Round- almost exclusively. Denison Math. The only other school he does is co-op. (That’s the only other curriculum) It’s my first year homeschooling🫶🏻🥳
Are you in a homeschool community group? I just got the email for mine in town (first year homeschooling) and it honestly seemed kinda overwhelming lol. We're in a small town in Idaho, so I thought the group might be good for making friends, seeing friends regularly, etc. but idk something about it just doesn't sound great to me. My son does love sports though, he's in jiu jitsu, and he's starting soccer then hockey soon.
Re your 6th grader-- Mr D Math has a course called "Preparing for Pre-Algebra." My then 12 yo son did that last year and it was a great course to prep him for pre-algebra this year. Just an idea in case you hadn't decided.
I always value your insights and advice! Very helpful to hear about work as my oldest wants to start working soon. Also, this Pacific NW study looks amazing! I need the same but for Texas 😉
Thank you so much for sharing your heart and your story. I really needed to hear this today. We have been homeschooling 7 years now, been such a great journey of learning and growing, but this year has been really tough going. I am trusting the Lord in the difficult patches, but I am so grateful for this reminder!! Thank you ❤
Hello! I'm just now watching this video & am new to your channel. Im excited to see you started the Carnivore Diet. I did too, 8 months ago!! My husband started it a year ago. Weve both had several things get healed in our bodies! I'm amazed & grateful!!! I'd love to hear if you're still on it & how it's going for you. Im 8 months in, going strong & have no end in sight as I feel sooo much better when on it! Lord bless you on your journey! ❤
Thank you for this! I always love watching your videos! This is my 2nd year homeschooling. I have a 4th grader and 9th grader and I am really feeling pulled towards doing mainly unit studies as our core curriculum. How do you keep up with credits for your high schooler when using mainly unit studies? I really want to try campfire and gather round!
You are doing great!! My sons graduated from our eclectic homeschool in 16,18 and 19. They all graduated from college 20, 22,23 with no debt and scholarships!!!!! Eldest earned his MBA in 22 for free with grad assistance job!!! They are all working in their fields and we are expecting first grandchild in December!!! I am praying for them to homeschool as well!!! I still keep my ears open in the homeschool community to know what’s being discovered and available! Thank you for what you are doing!!!!
My oldest wants to try Notgrass, America the Beautiful. Was their a particular thing you didn't like? I am nervous because of the price. Are you selling?
Thank you! Such a great reminder to savor the moments! my oldest is 17 and time is fleeting with him. I'm blessed that he still wants me to tuck him in when he feels like it. He has grown into a wonderful young man and he is ready to grow more and dive into his passion.
I heard a family who lives in a very hot climate in the summer schools through the hottest months and then takes their big breaks when the weather is beautiful so they can more enjoy the outdoors! Thank you for the ideas!! Working for high schoolers is such a blessing!
They don’t want his transcripts because he isn’t going to college. Kids have their whole lives to work. How incredibly sad that he would rather work than be learning.
This is such a sweet moment to experience with you! I'm also a homeschool mama, a few years behind you with my oldest going into 7th. I have followed you for years, and I feel so much of what you're talking about this month. I'm a recovering perfectionist as well - wanting to do all the things. I'm also burned out from trying so hard, you know? I want to make life better, for my own sake as much as my kids. Thank you for this gift of perspective.
Tears streaming down my face as I write, thank you! Thank you for this beautiful reminder and that it’s ok to be different and not so stuck on the schedule. Will work to slow down and savor these precious moments with my children!
Hi, its really cool that you do the Holocoust unit. As a German and with our history I remember very well when we did this topic. Here its taugh in 9th grade and it was together with WW2 a whole year subject. At the end of the year, we went to one of the concentration camp( Bergen-Belsen) and to a few more places the following grade when we visited Berlin for a week. It was sad visiting those places at the time.
If you don’t have enough on your plate 😅😉I could see you having an amazing podcast!! Your videos have been such a blessing and changed my outlook on our homeschooling…. Finding peace in our homeschooling ☺️
Amen!!! I'm totally on the same page, my daughter's wellbeing and happiness is above all else. Yes there are must do things, however she has always had an artistic flare and is musical, so these are what we nurture. Many blessings Susie 🙏🇬🇧
So glad I found you🎉I am homeschooling a senior this year & he's working. As a mom I sometimes question if I'm always giving him the best opportunity & options. A lot of people are against working & high school at the same time but it builds skills and in my opinion integrity. So happy to find another mom seeing great value in work ethic at a young age 😊 !❤! PREPARING THEM 4 LIFE!
Yes, 🙌 We use a lot of books in our home, but it is so much more than that! KNOWING my own kids is a big part of it. My little boy is the happiest building things, working on his bike, *spider hunting,* and singing. My older daughter is amazing at digital art, creative writing, and cooking. Why wouldn't we make time for those things? Why did it take me so long to figure that out?
I love your thinking 🫶🏼. Homeschool mom of 12 yrs here, just graduating my first and starting senior yr with my second (2nd grade with my 3rd child). I wish I could get my kids to understand this, my soon to be senior saw a copy of the local high school graduation requirements and after hearing from one of their counselors that homeschoolers can’t go to college 🙄 - she is frantically comparing to that and always feeling like she’s so behind, because we’ve had a different path than that school. It’s disheartening to see her overlook the beauty and freedom in this opportunity she’s had to homeschool.
I'm starting homeschool with my 3rd and 5th grade boys this year! I enjoyed your videos because it got me even more excited for school to start. Do you have a link for the scratch off map? We are going to glacier national park in September and would love to mark it off!
You made me cry. I definitely need to listen to what God's wants from my kids. I definitely get overwhelmed by all the options. I felt God calling me to just focus on Reading, Writing and Arithmetic and we have been doing so much better. We read history, science, literature and geography with little effort of "school". Now my children are starting to show their true interests that God gave them. My oldest loves engineering and fixing electronics and I am going to help him to pursue it. Thanks for this video!
Girl!!! Thank you so much for this! I am homeschooling 5 kids. None of them have ever been to public school so I have done homeschooling since preschool. My twins are starting 11th and then have a 9th grader, a 5th grader, and 3rd grader. None of them want to go to college. They all want to go to trade school. I have completely hated homeschooling the last couple of years. Hate it with every fiber of my being! It has become the hardest hurdle to get over. After your last video of what you were using this year I was so encouraged that I have revamped everything for our school year. I have prayed that God just take over the whole thing. To guide me and to open the doors to find how to teach what my kids are passionate about. Oh how I wish I could just skip all the junk that is required that doesn't fit into what they want to learn but we can't so we are just making the best of it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I saw it posted in a fb group for middle/high homeschoolers, and I have been checking it out. I'm definitely buying it for my son this year. Thank you for the flip through ❤
i needed to hear this. This is my second year of homeschooling . My two oldest boys are in public high school, and i homeschool my youngest. I have three boys . part of me wants to pull the other two from public school because i know they deserve more . I struggle with my oldest. I know he has so much potential but 2020 really did a number . Meaning...school went to you know what. They dont offer nearly enough and its disappointing. I wish i could find moms like you in my area. It is hard to make friends and often times the women i meet are not like me at all. My boys also, are just...boys. Not book worms, don't like classical reading....if you get where I'm going with this....they are boys who would rather do physical things or trades. They love animals and one of them like technology type stuff....i just feel lost. Im glad i came across your page. I feel less stressed. i think its more of a real approach then that overwhelming perfect homeschool mom life.
As I'm watching this video and you're talking about toddler voice and cuddles I'm also watching my husband teach our 14 yr old son how to use the weed eater. I focused so many years on the perfect curriculum like you mentioned and I look back and feel I missed so much. I have four years left with my first born before he wants to fly.
Hi, Thank you for your complete honesty in sharing your wonderful homeschooling experience. I homeschool my teen daughter for the last two and a half years, its been mind blowing trying to find the right balance, but we have got there. We are in the Uk but I really like somebof the texts that you are using especially the Pacific North History, I've been onto there site and had a good look at the sets, the are really intersesting. I loved watching your video, Thank you. blessings Susie 🙏🇬🇧
It’s late at night, I’m not new to homeschooling, but I’m here looking for curriculum ideas-ha! But this one came up instead, and I’m so glad. Thank you!
Oh my this video was so good!!! You made me cry 😭 God no doubt had me watch this video as just today I second guessed math for the 50th time!! Thank you.
