I have all their 5.1 DVD-Audios and I love to listen to them in my Acura. Too bad Steve quit doing DVD-A and switched to Blu-Ray, I can't play them in my car. I guess now surround sound is moving to Atmos, hopefully those will be playable using digital media instead of optical media.
My Dad is an audiophile who built his own HiFis and even his own speakers. So i've grown up with that. I still listen to music on my phone just to listen to when out walking - but I also buy albums on vinyl and CD and have a proper HIFI.
Steven Wilson convinced me to invest in high quality audio experience.. Although I don't have the money right now to do it 😅 But I've shifted to FLAC and the best sounding headphones I could buy just to listen to his brilliant music
I can't recommend enough for people to check out the high resolution 24 bit 96k mastered albums from porcupine tree/steve wilson and other simar artists like beck and so forth. There's a noticeable difference is the depth, dynamics and dimension of the music. Enjoy.
In 1992, I almost went to school for audio engineering. I was just about signed up and I was sitting across from the school owner and he asked why I wanted to become an engineer. I replied I wanted to learn to engineer audio for surround sound. He asked me why, as if in a huff, like I was crazy. Long story short, I changed my mind based on his attitude, and didn't give him my money. I got into photography instead. Audio engineers stuck in stereo just didn't get it I guess. Steven is a breath of fresh air in comparison to most producers. His music and quality is simply iconic.
the first cd pressing of brothers in arms is still the best sounding version of that album ever made! even compared to vinyl pressings!! "a full digital recording"
There isn’t any, I’m afraid. I got this video from the original website for collecting purposes, to my knowledge it is the only version they’ve put out.
Steven (and Gavin), if your personal albums, and remixes of other bands in surround don't convince people to invest in surround systems, I'm not sure what will! I'm certainly a huge fan of your multichannel works!
@@semajttam , regardless of what makes him tick, his contribution to the planet through music is nearly unprecedented in the modern age. I can deal with a genius being a bit pretentious if they're making true art that will outlast them far into the future........
Nothing better than 5.1 PT. Best albums i have in Surround are Lp's Reanimation, a few Pink Floyd 'Immersion' versions, a couple of NIN albums and all the PT stuff, the former are great, but no one mixes quite like Steven or Trent.
people eat fast food because that's what they could afford, you totally ignored the incredible fact that you are supplying your content to the whole world using recording, the Internet, and sound reproducing technology, you are the people who could afford a surround studio, not them, they didn't get the chance to absorb and understand what is quality.
I just bought a used Axe 2 XL+ and this patch was already on the unit and so I searched it on RU-vid and found your video. It’s such a beautiful patch.
i haven't listen any logitech speakers, but i can hear the difference on a iphone and stock headphones. (the iphone, as a sound source, is actually pretty good, better than any phone i've tried, but the stock HPs are crap). My point is that you don't need high end electronics and speakers. :)
The Best of The Art of Noise cd is an instrumental cd that has the most incredible surround sound on Earth. Another CD that sounds so crisp that it sounds like when you open a can of soda and you hear the fizz is a cd from a latin singer called Luis Miguel. Out of all of his cds the cd called 20 Anos is beyond surround sound. But, you have to listen to the actual cds to notice it. If you just hear it on youtube or mp3 it's not the same. But, try Scritti Politti' Best Thing Ever on RU-vid.
problem is with presets in many mediaplayers that rip cds in 128kbits mp3s. if they'd atleast use 192kbits... that already makes a huge difference... it can be so easy to enjoy music at a fairly high quality and still having a to of convenience. 192kbit mp3 + adecent(like 100bucks) 2.1 system or 30dollar headphones(maybe not from apple) and it's already a whole new world compared to 10dollar speakers with 128kbit mp3 songs coming from a notebook audiocard.
their point on view on mp3 etc is really understandable, but I have the impression that sometime they forget how expensive is the sound equipment necessary to hear the difference between mp3 and the original CD. You'll probably don't hear it if you're playing your music on your computer with 100$ logithec speakers.
Jayzorus it is not that expensive, and those logitech 100$ speakers actually do make a difference. Look up some high res music and tell me you dont hear the cymbals resonating more time after being struck, or vocals fading away as if someone was talking in front of you. The whole sound is crispier and vivid, it feels like a live performance tbh.
hahah :D what a comment on the greates drummer i've ever seen...now i see other qualities of him - made my day =) strange thing though, I actually thought steves head was quite small ^^
Well that's already been achieved some of the digital signal processing codecs that creates a "pseudo" surround sou d experience and the latest codecs are 85% of the way there as confirmed by steve wilson himself as well.
@@seybsnilksz it's her a round for 25 years approx, dolby started it with pro logic and everything went from there. It's all good bro but yeah the new formats really work and in actual fact I use the pseudo surround sound option and it's really opens things up.. happy searching.
"What Happens Now" is the song off of Nil Recurring, which is a 2nd CD of 4 songs that came out with Fear of a Blank Planet. The song is amazing (especially the polyrhythms at the ending) and one of my favorites, although it didn't seem to get noticed as much as some of their other songs.
