Quite late to this but yeah, hitting is allowed based on certain factors. Can't leave your feet (i.e. jump into the hit), or hit directly into the back, can't target the head, and depending on how long its been since the player lost/passed the puck. Sometimes hits are legal but considered dirty, which is why there might not be a penalty but the guy's teammates will rush over to defend him/fight. Never hit a goalkeeper, legal or not, unless you want to get smashed by their biggest guys all night. Don't go for a guy's legs/knee. That sort of thing. There's a set of game rules, which decides whether or not a hit is a penalty, and there's a set of 'honor' rules, which decide whether or not your teammates will defend you or get mad about it.
7:56 Hit that ended his hockey career. He hit the top of the dasher with the back of his head and the last injury report i seen he still was suffering from concussion symptoms years after the injury.
Basically whether or not there’s a fight after a big hit is determined by how the game is going or if the hit was illegal. Most of the newer clips have scrums after the hits because it is becoming less and less common to have these huge hits because the game is getting “soft” even though it is still one of the roughest and fastest sports in the world
4:35 I kid you not, the guy who’s “dead on the ice” is Eric Lindros, he was suppose to become the naymer of his time, until this happened and literally ended his career.
1:15 is Niklas Kronwall, a Swedish former player who was known as one of the best hitters in the world. He had a technique where he would skate backwards, and when the puck carrier stopped looking at him he would turn around for a hit. As you can hear the commentator saying "He got Kronwalled", man was such a good tackler they named his technique after him xD
so this video kinda sucks because the majority of the hits that i have seen ended up in suspensions or penalty’s, which is not a hit. more like biggest cheap shots
avalanche season ticket holder right here! and this is why this sport won’t exist in 50 years, same with football these dudes will forget their children’s names by 60
Rules for bodychecking are as follows: No elbows or knees (you can only bodycheck someone with your shoulder or hip) No hits to the head No cross-checking (using the shaft of your stick to hit your opponent) You can only hit the player that has possession of the puck or just touched it. Most of these hits are clean and legal hits. Basically, if you’re the guy with the puck, keep your head up. That is hockey 101. Never EVER skate with your head down.
