Another thing that bothers me is you cannot seem to de-authorize older computers that may have had these products installed and those computers have crashed or been replaced and your licence (x of 10) depending on how many computers you forgot to "de-authorize" their clunky licensing on, gets taken with it and upon approaching them, they said call support and they would work out some paid way to reset them, this just isn't good enough either (and they have no uninstallers from their product manager area) ... I also am one of those who have their sample libraies (huge libraries) sitting gathering e-dust waiting till I install them... Great video and glad to know they've at least lifted the 180 download limits.
Nothing special, actually very disappointing - no unison no sub oscillator if this was for purchase in the store I would never pick it up Red70 is far more useful its ok ............meh
I checked out the demo and compared to Minimal Audio, Baby Audio, Cherry Audio, Universal Audio and UVI it just sounds like a rattling tin can. Most of the presets are not even delays, but some watered down first generation efx. And don't get me started on that horrible filter.....
There is no wow a flutter on Polytone its just detune, mimicking the unstable sound of a old analogue synthesizer. Some new Analogue synthesizers do this a bit when they are first turned on the tone will be different from how it was left.
good content but let me give you one tip - if you're discussing music, chances are many in your audience will be listening on decent speakers - and one thing they hate is having to turn off the bass because you are p-p-p-p-popping in the mic. PLEASE - listen to your audio before posting and keep a good 9 inches away from the mic. Otherwise I've subbed and will watch again (minus the bass)

It's absolutely sickening! How can I upgrade my full version of Reason 12 to the full version of Reason 13 for free! I didn't find any hints or tutorials! Can you please help me?
Sadly, it's not free. They have an upgrade price for users of earlier versions on their Website. Some resellers have prices a bit lower, but there is a cost for upgrades to a new numbered version (minor updates like 12 to 12.6 are free but they charge when it jumps to 13).
The update price is the same as 12 which is $199 but it is also £199 and not adjusted for currency's so I'm basically paying £40 more then you, which is wrong. Reason Studios should fix that, why do I have to pay more because I'm in the UK?
@@luct I should pay £160 if the US price is $200, so £167 is much more near to the correct price, however I want Reason Studios to fix the issue its not a good look for them to force Me to go to 3rd party to get the price I should get. This problem is across there entire site so I pay more for REs to.
Yeah, I know what you mean. If you do decide to go that route, though, check the one @robbarnett684 mentioned. It looks like it's even cheaper (about £131).
Just one point that A-B on the polytone synth is not just mixing between the 2 layers DJ style, it also allows layer A settings to be morphed to Layer B settings
@@luct I quite like the new devices, the edit window and the new browser (even though it means altering the workflow). However, if I wasn’t on R+, I would probably hold off upgrading as I feel the (mostly cosmetic) changes do not warrant an additional £199 upgrade cost
I updated - I was also a tester and really appreciated the easier zoom/scrub and embedded tools for notes. Alone that's not worth the upgrade cost to me, but when combined with all the additional tools, the new synth voice, delay, etc, it seems about right. Of course there's a lot I wish they would still do with the sequencer and mixer and whatnot. Kinda wish they would just work on the core daw for a year and *not* make any new rack units.
Improved zoom might just be worth the $200 (it slows me down so much the way it is in older versions)! I know what you mean, I've been noticing that there don't seem to be huge new features and changes, but each one of the new tools has a few little bits and pieces, basically little surprises that seem really useful. love the content but please, you're an audio guy so you should know this... keep your DISTANCE between you and the mic. I hate having to turn off the low end to reduce the popping p-p-p-pick up a penguin sounds ! But great content and I've subbed 🙂
I completely agree with you. I noticed during editing there were a lot of plosives and have been thinking since then that I really have to back off from the mic. I will do better with that. Thanks for mentioning it and for subscribing!
The upgrade price is holding me back. Like the synth and effect, but not worth 200 quid for an upgrade from 12 which I bought a year ago. The 'faster' workflow should be built in a regular free update. Also the new way to detach windows is not faster but a step back. And why is the upgrade price the same for Reason 1 to Reason 12? Absurd. I would expect a lower upgrade price for long time users and beta testers. BTW not all VST2/VST3 work in 13.
I'm upgrading today for sure. I was a tester and this is by far the fastest Reason has felt in years to me. The quality of life updates to the sequencer and edit window alone are worth the price.

I am using 11 been using reason since 3 i wanted to update just so i am current really but havent made much music so i will make some music and try upgrade in a bit
I am undecided and tend to wait. The browser and sequncer update looks good but I am so used to the navigation and views ( started in reason 4) that I feel it will take a lot of time to change the way I work. The integration of the tool window in the sequencer is so nice and the old one felt always missplaced. On the other hand we have now a new floating browser window. Overall the upgrade price for the changes seem to me unreasonable for the small amount of changes.

Feels like they’re falling behind their competitors. It’s sad to see. I’ve been a reason user since v4. Also, I wanna be able to use Soothe2 witch vocals side chain and the delay compensation able to keep up. Good video tho man
Very uplifting video Luc, as a now 60 year old musician I've never felt more creative in music and video production, that's the key to keeping our brains active as a muscle as we get older, like you I don't feel 60, I mean what is 60 as a 'default setting' supposed to feel like lol. Doing what you love consistently is success enough and anything else is a bonus. Keep on keeping on brother!

I'm usually PUMPED for version update. Not this one. 😒 Nothing that they have presented for this update is something that I think I need or want. ESPECIALLY for $199! To raise the price by $69 for a version update from the usual $129 makes it certain that I won't be updating. I might've updated at the old price just cause. For $199 I can get a whole new software DAW! I have so many instruments and effects from over the years that none of the devices are necessary because I already have that functionality. Still love Reason. I guess I'll see about the next update years from now.
it would have been so cool, if they made the Reason Mixer Black and changed the curves and tone over to an SSL 4000 E and added a 5 Band Stereo EQ and Tape Machine on the Way out before the Audio goes to the G Comp Compressor, at that Point youd be able to master on the Mixer itself...you would get Compression, Saturation and Full Perimetric EQ on the Stereo Signal going to the Out channel
just wish they would fix mimic, doesn't follow tempo with sliced loops. and had a right click route all pads to the SSL from the drum machines. Custom tags was so forever needed. Good they finally added it. I'll probably get it when its on firesale next year for sure. Great overview chief 👍
I wanted to see stem separation as a show of being current and up to date with what is becoming standard. The new browser if it opens within the rack under the selected device as shown in Ryans video then great but if it opens ontop of everything thats bad, it will block My access to the device controls live.
The biggest problem with Alligator is that Reason advertised it as a Trance/Techno plugin upon it's initial release. I think that put a lot of people off it. Just my own theory.
That search bar "bug" you mentioned has always been a PITA. But I always thought it was just me doing something wrong. haha Glad to see someone else struggles with it too.
Thanks for the demo. I didn't think I'd want another delay, but yep I want to get Sigmund 2. I have others that do 2 things at once, like the Relab LX480 Dual Engine. I can do delay into a reverb, which is what my favorite modified preset does now.
I think they are late. Not now but in the last 10 years maybe. Other DAW’s established their dominance in the last decade, Ableton for example, FL studio did huge upgrades and Cubase, well its kinda King.
I've been using Reason since first Beta (24+ years). My Reason 1.0 serial number is in the first 100 issued. I mention this is because I'm a long time user and can tell you Reason has gone way down hill since before Propellerheads sold it off in 2019. Features that have been standard in other DAWs for 20 years are now being introduced into Reason. First question... After 24 years, do they have reasonable support for double density or higher displays? hahahahhahahaha... their last attempt at that was a total failure, still blurry AF... even with drop down menus and list views. Reason 13. Wow! they're adding a search feature that others had a decade ago... awesome. Wow, new song starter templates.... no one cares. Wow, Polytone synth... how many free VSTs do the same thing? Whoa, new side chain tool! Virtually every effects plugin especially EQ and Dynamics plugins have this ability in Reason and other DAWs. Gain Tool ZowieWowie! I've so many VSTs that do the same thing. Stereo widening... hahahaha... again many free tools, what did they do co-opt Juice examples? hahahaha. YaaaaaaaaaY! more delay effects! I think you forgot they've updated their crap dark mode hahahaha. I'd be more impressed with these new owners if they were to release Reason 13 free of charge to 12 owners and just fix all the bugs and issues. Don't worry about new features until they've improved their overall performance as a piece of software. Major DAWs just released new versions with AI and Machine learning tools. Reason? HA! as-if. Bitter? Yes.. why? Props were pretty good up until 2012-2014, then a decade of crap offerings from Props, interim and new owners. Am I buying 13... hell no. I've been porting all important past Reason tracks over to Logic for the last few years to get away from their slow dev and unstable releases. Having to port to preserve 24 years of recordings because the software developer can't keep up is just sad. They should discontinue the Reason DAW and just go into plugins only. Leave the DAWs for developers that can hang with modern development.
I'm with you man. The more I see of the update to 13 the more excited I'm getting. I actually think this might be a big update for RS. I've wanted workflow updates in Reason for a long time and I think these changes will make Reason even faster.
I can see that on the unweighted keyboard the notes seems to have a triangular wedge shape while the weighted one seems to have square shape notes so my question is do the shape of the notes define whether it is weighted or unweighted keyboard?
That's a good question. You can't always tell by looking at them. These do look different but some unweighted keys look identical to the weighted ones, it really depends on the keyboard.
Luc, you take the saying 'limitations aids creativity' to a whole new level. Don't be too hard on yourself, stranger things have happened. Massive hits have been made by 'happy accidents' so to speak. great effort coupled with your patience. I don't know if I could've done what you did. The silence would be deafening for me lol.
