It was a part that only the oldest of model As had. It was to stop the rake from going too far down. The rake arm had two prongs that the lift cable would pass between and the little square couldn’t so it would hit the prongs, limiting the amount the rake could drop. Only a few thousand of the early Otis built As have them and this lane has the prong missing. Probably had a rake arm replacement in the past.
