Curious, did you try your 85mm L at f/2 to see how it compared to the 100mm f/2.8? Don’t always have to use a lens at its widest aperture. Would have like to see the 85mm with a little more depth of field to see how the out of focus background gets rendered. Thank you and take care.

Brother you speak truth. I own a R3, R6m2, R8 with 85mmf2 85mm1.2,100mm,35mm1.8, 24mn,16mm.28-70mm,24-70mm and 70-200mm. I feel like I am in a bad marriage and I can’t leave before the investment. I paid $6000 for the R3. Now it sells for $3800. I feel cheated. For a 24mp sensor. For that money I could have done better with Sony or Nikon 😢. This Fanboy is done

As far as the R3, Once Canon said this NOT the Flagship, I should held off because I paid $6k, too…. It’s shame when I have to start dissecting all angles before locking in a Canon camera purchase. 🤦🏾♂️
The arrogance of Canon thinking they are still the market leader. That was the DSLR era and DSLR sales helped prop up their numbers. Now every RU-vidr and influencer is using Sony. Makor publications are now using Sony. I started with Canon and wanted to avoid Sony for so long. It would've been more cost effective to do that move a lot sooner.
Options are great, but keep it real if you buy a Canon because of its quality. You have to pay to play. Consumers still by more canon then Sony so on a business stand point it didn't hurt them. Sony doesn't have lenses as good as Canon thus the reasons they have so many 3rd options
I find this topic interesting - Would someone really expect to have an option for a Chevy or Dodge engine when buying a Ford vehicle? maybe I come at this differently because I owned my own business for 30 years? - it's not new that a manufacturer would play the "not so truthful" game - they all do it, they play up all the so-called GREAT benefits of a particular product, they're not going to promote the "NOT SO GREAT STUFF" - price discounting is always painful for those that purchased on the front end of a product roll out - unfortunately the auto-makers have made this the norm - a different sale each week to get NEW buyers in the door - it's a marketing ploy and they do it because it works + they don't want/need a warehouse full of "OLD technology" last year's sales don't count this year. you have a great channel - keep it up.
Spending six grand on a Camera system , and not have the ability to build upon it . Why not let Canon know with some choice words of dissatisfaction , with not allowing the Consumer to make choices. In going the direction that you choose to go ! I feel you , Bro ! Am a Fujifilm fan boy , that uses Sigma full frame lens on both my aps-c and medium format cameras . And guess what ! I can't get the newest Sigma lenses in the EF mount! And it's all because of Canon wanting to reign supreme in the camera market . Thank you , Shawn for , speaking out about Cannons shenanigans . And that's putting it nicely !
I couldn't disagree more. But there is a lot of canon disappointment on the RU-vid space now, so I get it. I love canon cameras, and I love canon lenses. I love the R1 and the r5mii, especially the price. I don't get caught up in "flagship" labels and all that. I just love the product and what it could do.
@@ShawnLPorterPhotography I have the R6 & r6mii. I didn't see the advantage of the extra megapixels with the R5, so I let that go and used the extra money to get the RF28-70 f2. I have the ef135 f2, Ef 16-35 2.8, Rf 70-200 f4, and the Rf 85 f2.
@ShawnLPorterPhotography I prefer the R1, myself, but I couldn't justify buying an R1 when the r5mii has all the major features of pretty much most of the entire R series, $2000 cheaper. That's 1 thing I love about this release is the great price of the r5mii. Thanks for the video and thanks for taking time to read and respond. I really appreciate that.
Eos 3 was a film slr between the 1 and the 5. I sold a ton of them in the late 90 and early 2ks. Canon knows that as soon as they unlock the rf mount lens, sales will drop.
@@jj61051 I stand corrected, thank you for that clarity, but I was speaking of the DSLR line. If they open the mail, I don’t see how sales would drop, I will argue that they will sell more camera bodies.
@@cornellmoody8349 I like the R5ii, I want one… as a matter of fact! I would get 2, I would sell the R5 & R3. And replace them both with R5ii’s. I think the R5ii could be the do it all camera! For any situation, action, portraits, landscape, birds, video… I like it… I have another major purchase pending that’s the only reason why I didn’t preorder. 🤦🏾♂️
Indeed, after they gave us this egg-shaker RF 35mm 1.4L with it's ugly distortion, my relation with Canon is in jeopardy, too... Canon, you better bring a properly corrected 35mm 1.2L soon, or let at least others do it!

Marriage without trust is a unbreakable business contract.😂😂. Have you not learned from owning the M50. We were waiting for some lense to drop especially of the telephoto variety and it never happened. The Canon released the M50mk2 and all they done was an improvement of the auto focus in servo mode and you can buy it with a creator kit. Anyway I agree with you, but financially it's a hobby for me while I still have my day job. I have the R7, R6MK2 and my R which was a replacement for the M50 I owned which started me on this mirrorless journey. I don't see myself switching camera brands not because I would need to sale lens and camera. Canon camera's just feel good in my hands. The size and shape of those bodies feel perfect. I would go to the local BestBuy and try out all brands; Sony, Fuji, Nikon and they don't feel right the grip or to small my knuckle will rub against the barrel of the lens etc. And I don't tell you how simple and efficient the Canon touch screen is. I am back n forth on this lens - great portraits - the corrections are holding me back - might do the 15-35 2.8 instead - have you tried that lens out?

It’s a great lens, definitely optically better than the new 35, If you’re not that concerned about 1.4 then you’ll have lens that’s more versatile. As for me, I normally don’t shoot that wide.and another option could be 14-35 f4….
Thank you for posting these! These were dope! It’s about time they came out with a 35mm 1.4 for the RF mount. Now all we need is a RF 50mm 1.4 and RF 85mm 1.4 and even a 1.8, the 85 f2 is alright but a 1.8 won’t hurt lol

The shaking you here in the RF35 is the floating lens element. It seems that Canon is finally adopting that design. Fujifilm lens all have floating lens elements, and one would think there is something wrong when they first hear it.

The actress who posed for you is magnificent. it takes a lot of skill, practice, attention to detail and playfulness in order to model well. I have started to use the term actress or actor because this is what they are really doing. Playing a part on the stage. Getting into the character. The word model is frequently used derisively by many nowadays in the comment section of newspaper articles because the people leaving the comments are trying to elevate themselves above the models by leaving unkind comments claiming that models are superficial people and anybody could do what they do. But they cannot do what the models do! Oh, and they love to claim that model beauty is an unearned gift because beauty only resides on the inside. They think saying a thing makes it so.

I didn’t experience any pulsing or focus hunting when I use it on the R3. It work very much like a native lens expect what I mentioned in the video. Thanks for watching.
