2023-07-01: It doesn’t work to just ask in RU-vid for word pronunciations. I quickly found 4 totally different pronunciations, I’m guessing this has it right: DIKE sis (deictic) and DIKE tick (deixis).
I can't watch this because only one speaker's lips move. They're moving constantly, and don't match the pace of the words being uttered. They're moving when the other speaker's voice is being heard. It's very confusing
Basque even has medial spatial deictics: hau (proximal) - hori (medial) - hura (distal) and I think so do Spanish (este - ese - aquel) and very conservative varieties of Catalan (aquest - aqueix - aquell; ací - aquí - allà) and Valencian (este - eixe - aquell, ací - aquí - allà).
Some anaphoric references are part of deixis (discourse deixis), but others are not. Mathew is an incredible athlete, he came first in the race. He is not deictic in the sentence as the denotative meaning of Mathew is maintained regardless of the speaker (he is anaphoric reference). I was born in London, and i have lived here/ there all my life. Here/there functions anaphorically referring to London. Here/there is also deictic as they indicate whether the speaker is or is not currently in London. Hope this helps
