I have some questions. 1. Whats are typical percentages of SDN overhead when processing networking over a DPG with CPUs? 2. Same question like 1. with NSX with a) only switching, b) +routing, c) enabled DFW d) +DPI/IDS? 3. Is this overhead nearly completely gone when using a DPU? 4. Dave, are you guys working on accelerating SDS (vSAN OSA/ESA) with DPUs too?
Like Johannes pointed out the Latency Aspect of a VSAN ESA Installation is Mindblowing !! No traditional Storage we checked came close . , we made a Live Optics Analyse , there we got on a 7Node VSAN ESA Cluster , 1000 VM , 500TB raw@168 Disk NVME , 100Gb Network almost "0ms" Latency ... VSAN ESA should be the standard Today , OSA is not even in the same League now a days to compare it , plus you get all those other Goodies "Raid6 with the Speed of Raid0" , "Snapshot-history" "morerealCapacity" " DiskLevelOutage" "lowerCPU Cycle" "LatencynearZero (!!!!) " . Oh ... by the way our POC Test showed a 1,5 Million IOPS could be handeld on the System , you see actually 12Gbyte Bandwidht Traffice through Backup every Night . Im not even sure if 200Gb Network ( VSAN ) will saturate the System . Many Database Server are located there with up to 80K IOPS Need and it just works ... so great . One small Tip if you can add a 100GB Network to the VSAN ESA ... just do it , such systems will shine really bright !
I've used VMware forever at work but started using Proxmox at home. I absolutely love the interaction/customization capabilities since it's basically just Linux.
Both you look differently in video than what I expected when I listen to you in audio format podcasts :) Glad to see the video version on youtube. Thank you for the amazing show
I have not heard one person from VMware to simply just say that it’s still ESXi and still connecting to the cloud with less components like install/setup Most of the install effort have been deleted.
Fantastic episode guys with an unbelievable update on vSAN. I'm following you from around 1 year and half and every time I'm waiting the next episode here or via podcast, please go on with this great work
