Great interview! So informational about the graffiti that evolved into a “fine art”. I lived in the same building with Kenny and Doze. Now, at almost 80 years old; I connected their breakdancing, graffiti, skateboarding to the pre-culture of hip hop. They were and are so talented.
Hurrah! Another well conducted interview. Stay focused, live well, and enjoy life, ya'll. Keep the interviews sailing in. "SOe P23D!" "VADe 3D, P2D" ("teZ 3D, P2D," Rest In Peace)
BIG, LATINO SHOUT OUT TO, "Skuf YKK Crue!" ("KeZ 5" Rest In Peace). Superb interview. I met 'Jesus Saves' inside of a Rikers Island holding cell. Nice to see & hear that you are blessed and still doing ya thang, thang player! Keep graffiti ALIVE, boricua! ("SOE" P2D, YKK, 3D . . . "teZ 3D" Rest In Peace)
This video is so inspiring. I havent lived up to my potential after getting clean and I used to love spraying and painting and drawing...this really inspires me to keep going and paint again
Run DMC, TMF, Rock Steady, QBert, etc. all gave me a sense of pride of my culture as a kid. And this is in a world where culture was interpreted by rich and powerful adults.
Doze is being super humble.. He was an integral member of The Rocksteady crew as well as a few Graffiti crews, He is a hip hop ICON. He was able to execute some of the hardest moves. He had style and was never uptight, always humble and wanted to make us have a good time, actually he was like the ring leader, the flavor flav of RSC.. Do not dare to think he was anything other than Spectacular to watch in action, I was there. ❤❤❤❤
as much as i respect what hes done anything put on that album would of became iconic simply because the music was iconic. was the album art for doggystyle a great illustration. no, theres far far better illustrators out there. is it iconic though? hell yeah
Richie Pops Baker aka Popz 100 KIA from Nottingham UK here. I came 2nd to Jon 156 in the individuals category of the Bridlington UK 1989 Street Art competition. Judged by Vulcan Ex Vandals. Etc. Doze has been a true hero peer of mine since those B-boy (B-people) Rock Steady characters and lettering and his appearance on Style Wars which is the movie that solidified my commitment to the lifestyle once I saw it aged 15 and onwards. Minus the time when I kinda forgot about it all. I quit spray can art after around 7 years (including 8 arrests and some minor prison time etc) and having nephews born into the family that I didn’t want to be introducing into the criminal lifestyle. Also because of the regular exposure to the chemicals of the paint (I was learning from the Rastafari movement and its emphasis on honouring and living in harmony with Momma Nature rather than the manufactured pollutive version of our contribution to her). But I mainly quit due to my fears about contributing to the hole in the ozone layer thanks to spray paints non-ozone friendly status back in those days. Took me a few years to realise I could paint with brush but didn’t really try and excel with it and didn’t paint traditional Graf style lettering with brush ever… For instance… Til I came to live here in New Zealand 15 or so years ago having become a Dad myself and marrying my children’s NZ based Mother. Today the ozone layer is fully healing and spray paint becoming more and more ozone friendly. I sometime use Water based spray paint for bits but still haven’t really tried to excel with its usage. Even though I have a bunch of water based Montana etc sitting in my garage. Waiting patiently. Everything in due season. Anyways yeah it was good to see Doze utilising brush when I found him on RU-vid etc when I first got onto here and looked for him. Ever the pioneer like my good self if I might be so egotistical about it. Anyways… Big up Doze and all relevant others. Oneness Lovingness, Allness Nothingness, Foreverness Nowness, Wombness Wowness! ☺️🙏🏽☯️💗💥☀️🌳💧🌏🍇
Black people have been treated like animals since the very inception of America. The government from the city to federal all conspired to assasinate and torcher any movement that had potential to strengthen minorities. Nothing scares them more than conscious educated, and organized black humans.
Love to Doze unconditional and in return for all the inner/outer work he puts in over the years! Oneness Lovingness ! Allness Nothingness ! Foreverness Nowness ! Wombness Wowness ! ☺️🙏🏽☯️💗💥☀️🌳💧🌏🍇
I liked, subscribed, and am commenting. The painful silence when he says his favourite _ was entertaining. Thanks for the great video, this was very good.
