How is the lens in low light and with focus acquisition? Considering it for sport but the f stop is high for the dark stadiums here in Durban, South Africa.
Had one of these 5 months. Completely unusable filming in auto mode. The hissing noise is unreal. With external mic or standard. Only setting I can record is manual and turn sound down. Then I have issue of not hearing much in videos. Extremely disappointing. Canon are no help at all. Just keep telling me to read manual.
I bought this lens to shoot it at f/2-4 . It was so soft and unusable at those f/stops I sent it back . I got the lens for $199 on the remanufactured deal . It must not have gotten the “fix” . I did really like how it rendered and would like to have a better version of the lens . I’d love to see Nikon make higher quality retro glass like this and the 28 . The lenses need an aperture ring of some type like what is on their more expensive lenses. I would like more resistance added to the “control” rings though. Love the glass Nikon is putting out but please Nikon get back into the retro game .
I wish Nikon would have come out with a lens like this. Very convenient range and constant aperture. Nikon only wants to sell you a 24-70mm and 70-200mm in the assumption you will get 2 bodies for shooting events.
Ken, I recently sold my D750 and D7500 with plans to purchase a Z6iii. After first reading your reviews of the Z5 and then watching this video I just purchased a use Z5 with 25 actuation for $875 out the door.
I just received mine, and I want to like it, but I found it to be too short. I am 5'7", and I did not think I would need to bend over in order to use the viewfinder. I hate using the LCD screen. I want to like the tripod, but somehow, this just isn't the one I thought it would be. The way the legs lock is really neat though. I also wish the stem to the screw that tightens the Arca plate was a bit longer so that it was easier to tighten when you have a camera on the mount.

Hello Ken! What a beautiful and helpful content You create! I kindly appreciate what you're doing. I am an hobbyist photographer (do not make videos at all) from Estonia and having a Canon RP camera with only one kit lens 24-105 f/4-7.3, that I don't really like as I'm growing up in photography. I photograph mainly landscape and street. What could you suggest for me for a switch.. I have my eyes on Nikon Z7 II, but I really didn't tried this one out in practice. I really like R6II but I'm thinking about the glass and to me it seems that Canon does provide really expensive (for me) glass (RF 70-200 f/4, RF 14-35 f/4, etc..). Nikon btw has really decent 14-30mm f/4, 24-120 f/4 and 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 glass at affordable price point. I watch a lot of YT videos about Nikon and Canon cameras what talking about pros and cons of the cameras and I cannot really decide what camera to buy.. one talk about how great Nikon Z7II is and another one talk how bad it is.. and both of them talking about different aspects. I think that Nikon Z8 is great one but it has kinda bigger form factor and you mentioned some of the cons about ergonomics and I stucked at this point.. R5 is also great one (with 45mp) but as I'm an amateur mby it's too pro for me. What I want is to have one camera for 5-6 years what I can shoot with no problems and need for a switch.
These samples really look great with such a toy zoom lens. Are they really OOC files? I know you set vivid colors on and saturation 3+. But, images look amazingly sharp.

I just got my first FM (first manual Nikon camera) just the other day. I’m so excited to have an EMP proof camera in my collection and, I must say, it is a work of art. I was first thinking about the FE2 as seen in the Civil War movie but upon learning more about it, I realized it was completely dependent on a battery to run the shutter and it didn’t allow for pre-AI glass. I saw that the FM was the only one that was fully mechanical and allowed the oldest of the F glass, so that was my choice. Spent $240 to order a “MINT +++” (like new) FM from Japan. This was my early birthday present….for the next 10 years. 🥴
Probably because I’m the only one here who’s actually a talented photographic artist AND not on anyone’s payroll, so I actually shoot and don’t care about the cost of the gear. THANKS for noticing!
@@KenRockwellTV I used to be a prosumer photographer but stopped around 2010 due to camera breaking and stopping. I figured that a cell phone was “better” than the film camera I had in 2001. But. Now. I feel like I miss having control of the focus. The aperture and the zoom of my old film Pentax. So I was thinking about this with the kit lens and the 55-210mm lens. My main concern is just cost and if the quality of the image will better than my iPhone. I heard bad things about the kit lens but your images look great? Thank you again for being awesome!

This is the next lens that I plan on getting for sports, wildlife, and landscapes. Yes, Sports, I had a 150-500 Tamron on Fuji, and the photos at the Yankee games were outstanding. I use a cotton carrier to carry this with ease.
Love this camera and a great camera . This Lilliputian camera I bought as package . For the features this camera has for this kind of money is overkill . I love love this camera for its mirrorless interchangeable lenses . If I want more features I am ready to pay more for this miniature wonder .
Ken, have you heard of the R8 overheating at all? Also, what are the max size very good prints that this thing can pull off? Just watched a Tony and Chelsea video re: megapixels/prints where he shows even 61 mpx might not be overkill for 30 inches. Thoughts?
I’ve had McDonald’s pay me to use a 2MP (two MP) image on a billboard. So long as it’s sharp, 2MP is enough for any size print. Not heard of R8 overheating, but I use real video cameras to shoot video, not DSLR or Mirrorless. Thanks!

If you plan on taking photos with a tripod you're probably better off carrying something a lot more substantial than a "travel tripod" however with the latest modern day digital cameras you may not feel the need to carry any tripod for a typical daylight outing. This is when you would look to carry a travel tripod for those unanticipated opportunities that require a tripod. In the past I put up with cheap travel tripods and then much better made ones but this Oben CQL-13 tripod surpasses anything I've ever laid my hands on.
Hello Ken! Maybe you can help me understand if it needs to be switched off every time when it's on the neck to go into standby mode? I don't understand how the sleep timer should work versus my dslr. Isn't the eye sensor triggered every time when the camera is close to your body on your neck or on your shoulder preventing it from falling asleep? Thank you for the video! You are Legend!
I've just saw another video where you say that indeed it stays on because of the eye sensor and drains battery. Are there solutions? Do you know if it is possible to assign a button to switch it to a sleep mode without turning it off? This question bugs me for a long time, but I think that other manufacturers also don't have such option. Thank you.

Many thanks for this video. I have had my R6ii since the camera was released and I'll be honest, I've not got on with the focusing system. I have watched numerous videos but this one is by far the best for the most basic settings! I just need to get out and practice now!
Hi Ken, I have a soft spot for 40MM lenses. I still have my Nikon 40MM F/2.8 Micro, it's very sharp and I still enjoy shooting with it. This Nikkor Z lens looks like another Nikon Winner. Nice one Ken 😊.
How do I train my mind to growth mindset instead of thinking I can throw money at every situation, i just celebrated my 34th birthday and I got some birthday money to buy some new stuff 😅but I’m wondering what are ways to grow my mindset instead of spending money 😮
@@KenRockwellTV you're right, I need to figure out how to solve the problems, sometimes I over extend the problem just because its not that much for an upgrade but you've always taught me to buy what I need not what I want. I think I just need to dissect my situation and see what it is I truly need vs want. you're right it is very difficult especially with buy now pay later or pay monthly, I'm just so torn I could just do it now <3 haha cheers!
I have a Nikon D40X that I have had for years and two lenses. My question is can my lenses work with this camera, as it is in my price range to buy the Nikon Z50 body
I wouldn’t bother. Your lenses may or may not work (see www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/mirrorless/lenses/ftz.htm) and the adapter is expensive, and if it does work it will be much bigger than just buying a new Z lens. Honestly I’m not impressed with the Z system; personally I much prefer the Canon Mirrorless system www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/index.htm
