I’m rebuilding Tacoma 2013 TRD my driver wheel is rubbing the rear wheel well. I changed the lower a arm and tie rod. Still the same. Can’t find out what’s wrong need some insight!
Just purchased a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Premium Package and jheeze what a fun project lol. I have some damage from a front end collision, airbags and all went off, but this was going through insurance so they ended up starting the work so airbags, interior and body panels pained. When they sold me the truck I found that the CAB is 95% immaculate with two cracks near the door handle. Then bed is in perfect shape like yours, but now to the fun part. The battery is bad, whole radiator assembly is missing and the air intake is cracked. The frame chasse is also crumpled and cracked from the shop attempting to straighten it. It can't be welded back together so I need to buy an entirely new frame. Toyota is back ordered for months and can't even give me a deadline. I've called around all over the country and was only able to find 3 with prices between $5500 and $8500. Other than that I'm excited about this project! I plan to look for one locally over the next 2-3 months while I like up a shop to be able to use a frame table to ensure it's uniform etc..
I admire your determination and work. I grew up on a farm and learned how to fix about anything. I also do woodworking and saw you had some wood tools. Those skills I am sure helped in this rebuild.
Hey Ben, How hard were the curtain airbags to install? looked pretty easy in the Video. Do they come with the bracket to just bolt on to the truck? Thanks
I got those on eBay. Went to Toyota Parts site to find the part numbers and then searched those in eBay. You can also go to some local junk yards or car-parts.com may have them.
Awesome video. Did everything align okay? Replace any other components than what you showed? I have a 2020 4runner I’m rebuilding that is toed out real bad.
Yea, the alignment went well after I got it and had been good since. I only had to replace the spindle and did bearings while I was there. The spindle is the weak link for getting twisted or bent so I would definitely replace that. It can be hard to see how bent it is without a new one next to it. I would check and possibly replace the a-arms as well if you can and maybe tie rod if it’s bent those could lead to more toeing out if they are bent. If there ok then they may have just been hit out of alignment.
Thanks for this video, great work! Is my understanding that when the air bag deployed, it ripped through the stitching of the seat? It's been impossible to find diagrams of how they actually deploy. I just want to secure down seat covers, but don't want to cover up the air bag. Thanks!
Yes, should just be a single stick over where it blew to keep the cover intact. Copy whatever it looks like this there or if you have a non blown side copy that one. There is fabric straps that go on either side of the (underneath) cover fabric that keep the cover in place when the stitches tear for the airbag. Opens like a bag of chips
Ben I really enjoyed the tacoma rebuild and I am hoping to get a tacoma from copart myself can you point me in the right direction on how to be able to get one from them. Appreciate your help and love the videos. Thanks
