NEW: Revival, I paint less nowadays but am playing a ton of ELITE Dangerous and other games.. and I just got FRAPS.. so.. here we go!
OLD: A spot where I chuck my vids from games me and my gaming group have played. I'd like to be more pro-active and update it more frequently.. Thats my goal now. Visit the Blog for our club, www.dicedevils.com (which is the reason I have a youtube channel)
Nice game, I loved your platoon selections. A well narrated vid. My fear is bolt action is soon be Artillary action, I don’t like the Limit of 4 sections in the rifle platoon, it makes them a weak choice and having to take another platoon including it’s officers is a waste of points. Overall I’m disappointed with V3. This version has some great rule changes and clarifications, but the platoon builder is so exploitable it’s ruined things
I've enjoyed all three games. The Pyrrhic army has some great heavy cavalry that might help the war effort. I play Carthaginians vs Roman and attacks on the flanks with cavalry and light troops works pretty well. Charlie
Hi! I want to start into Hail Caesar and just want to ask: Is this a fight which could really possible happend? Are the roman legions fight with armours like that against greek phalanx? Because they look like imperial romans? I`m asking just out of interest. Thank you for this awesome battle report and greetings from Germany! :)
Oh Im not sure all I know is I like the hollywood style romans, IE the Early Imperial Romans, so thats what I painted. In Hail Caesar, you can play anyone.. so I can play vs Samurai or whatever...
Hi a am trying to put together a battle of English against Scottish but I can't find any Scottish that are just caring sword and shield can you recommend any where thanks Andrew
No they are solid one piece out of soap stone from the UK, www.tablescape.co.uk/Catalogue/Mediterranean/Images/MediterraneanRangeLarge.jpg?fbclid=IwAR1-1_NxoiyJb4QnUQaFL_Qm_ag2OAyn8DXF083KWAcu6T1yk4N-bRoa9RY
Hey great to see you guys still enjoying HC. Just a thought, have you considered doing a more play by play style report, showing dice rolls and unit movement etc? Obviously it will be a longer video, but could be a little more entertaining to watch!? All the best Scott.
Yes Ive considered doing a 7th Son style where you see the dice rolls, but the footage was very long... and the one time I ran my other camera on a tripod and just let it record a-la Von Ketteringham or Boots on the Table, I ran out of battery power :) Will consider it for next time..
@@MattVarnish1103 Thanks for reply. Understood. I plan to do more , and I think showing the dice rolls, and seeing the units move etc, helps people not familiar with the game to understand how it plays. I'm trying to grow the game in my neck of the woods. :)
@@kapitihobbies9360 Well the main reason I started doing video bat reps all those years ago when we started playing Flames of War was to look back and go "ooooh we effed up that rule!" so its to entertain and is a record I can look back and correct any mistakes. For example, in our game we messed up Broken Divisions and also the break test on a 6 to-hit in shooting, we were still stuck in the Pike and Shotte mindset of a 6 = a disorder and nothing more :)
Looking forward to getting both my Spartans and Persians painted up. I plan on using GW contrast paint to start. I am also hoping to get up to meet up with you guys. Your only 2 hrs away. Did you have some sort of force builder? If so what did you use?
We used the first edition Classical Armies book for the lists, but I have a quick and dirty excel sheet that does the math for me. I can email it to you if you like
Thank you Gents, have just invested in the Hail Ceasar II rules, and your last two vids were very interesting. Really enjoy your Channel. Keep Goin Cheers 👍🥃
@@clarkcommando1983 Agreed, even 12 by 6, but we were limited to playing in that room and not use the bigger tables, but would have necessitated moving couches and so on. 500pts
They were made by a local guy out of MDF for Lasalle but they are perfect for Hail Caesar / Pike and Shotte, etc because one dice is for the current stamina and the other is the overage when you roll your break test.
@@clarkcommando1983 You can easily make them with plasticard base and then the plastic rods cut up.. it was just easier to use this guys' Lasalle ones.
'Fighting to the Rear" pg 116 says that I MUST put at least half my attacks to the front. I put ALL my attacks to the front and 0 on my flank.. bcs I wanted to shake n break the wounded unit in front, which I was able to do. Thats why I did that, maybe Im wrong
@@MattVarnish1103 I think you are meant to divide the attacks roughly equally, the option to use all your attacks to the rear or flank is only if you are not attacked to the front?
@@johnp4000 it says in the rules that if I am charged in the flank or rear WHILE I am engaged to the front I have to put at least half up front. Which, since the unit in front was Shaken, I put all 7 attacks to the front, hitting on 5s bcs I was flanked, and zero to the flankers, just to get a wound on him and force another break test, which I got on the unit to my front. Agreed 100% that I can't put more than half on the flankers but I opted to put zero on the flankers
@@johnp4000 At least half of a unit’s attacks must always be allocated to a unit’s front if it is engaged to its front. If engaged to the front by more than one unit then attacks must be divided as equally as possible amongst them. Whatever the situation, a unit cannot allocate more than half of its attacks against a flank. < That is the text verbatim. I had one unit engaged to the front, not 2, so no need to split those. So the first sentence, I cannot put more than half my attacks to the flank, so I choose 100% of my attacks to the front, 0 on the flank, in order to cause the Break test on the already-shaken unit of phalngites.
Hi guys, Happy New Year. Awesome looking game - the two armies look fabulous, especially with the flags added (correct or not 😀). On the combat - it is all treated as one big combat. Best explanation is covered under Supports on p70. I’d also check the Dragoon rules on p83. I don’t think dragoons can “form up” and so stay as skirmishers. I think they could have evaded if mounted. Also check the Skirmishers in combat stuff on p63. (It is a messy situation.) As far as the falling back on initiative: Scott did this correctly. You can fall back on initiative, when Shaken, facing the enemy. Whether they count as holding an objective when shaken is really up to the scenario design which probably should define how objectives are held or not. Look forward to the next game you guys film 👍.
Thanks Andy, your armies helped being an inspiration. My unit was not mounted Dragoons, they were Scots Reivers which are Skirmishing Light Horse, but still I think it should have been one combat not two. Oh well, onwards and upwards. I hope its my flags that are correct!
Very kind , @@MattVarnish1103 😀. Ah, I missed that they were Reivers/Mossers. Still one melee as you say. You may therefore have had the mounted options when charged by foot (i.e. countercharge or turn to face), although they still don’t have the option to ‘form up’. I agree that you may have been better off just taking them as more Horse in this game. Glad you are both enjoying the games. 👍
Hey Andy, thanks for the info. I igured if anyone could point us in the right direction it would be you. Happy New Year to you and the guys from the FOGH. Sorry and yes Im trying to get my flags/banners sorted. I had to order some new ones to fill the gaps. Hopefully, i will start getting it right.
Thanks for another great game guys. Has motivated me to start my own 28mm Royalist army So I assume by the commentary that we have another Aussy who has migrated to Canada. Good to see Looking forward to the next videos. Hope you both have a great and prosperous 2023 - Keep wargaming Cheers Dave Cross
These look great - is the Vallejo Desert Yellow the model color version or the game color version of the same name? Or the air version? Thanks in advance.
Game looks visually brilliant and really enjoyed watching it. I personally love pike and shotte and its great to see more games on here of it. Interested in hearing how you find playing it. I do always find that shooting can be a somewhat ineffective but then again it was at the time. Look forward to seeing more mate. 😁👍
We like it, it looks good and plays decently fast, we aren't bogged down by unnecessary extra rules which a LOT of authors seem to think make a good game. it might make a good game on paper, and then you have to play it and book 10 hours.....
Love to see an ECW game. On the initiative move, you must only move forward or back. You can’t move any other way. As for shaken units taking an object, it doesn’t happen often but we don’t allow it as the unit is all over the place! I believe on the combat you fight it as one battle but the outflanked unit needs to split some of its dice to use against the unit flanking it at the necessary minus. Not 100% on that one though and don’t have my book with me
Yes after I posted the video I saw the spot about Proximity Rule, so moves can only be Front or Rear quarters. I think Ill just use the Reivers as regualr horse going forward, on the tables we are playing they do not get much opportunity to outflank so I should just use a regular horse units higher dice and Morale. Thanks Dom, when can we expect naother game from you and the lads? :)
Excellent video chaps, really enjoyed that. The table and the models look brilliant, especially enjoy hearing the occasional "ow" as someone spikes themselves on a pike 👍😁
Thanks Martin. Have been enjoying your P&S Batreps as well. They were good good rules training for us. Also laughed at the odd 'OW' as you were doing your commentary.... looking forward to more. Cheers.
Looks great! I cannot really estimate scale, are the infantry based on 20mm by 20mm per figure? The cavalry look to be 25mm by 50mm. Thanks for the inspiration, I may start working on my own dusty unpainted collection.
They are 28mm models, inf. based on 40 by 40mm square bases, Cavalry are on 50 x 50mm squares (25 by 50mm for my skirmishing horse) and highlander warbands are on 60 by 60mm bases.
Thanks Dennis, good game and fun day. Nice to finally have 99% of our stuff painted and based. Now I just need to get off my butt and do the flags and command bases..... Well for the next game!!!
You should also consider the battle of Benburb 1646, which is the Gaelic Ulster Army against Monro's Covenanters in Ireland. Here is a link to a short doc on the battle I was involved (Directed, produced, art director, cartography and Costumes) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0MY9kAAs0Tc.html get in touch there is a whole camapaign.
recently did Benburb in 10mm and used the video and associated material for the OOB and terrain - so thanks for the work. Scenario based games are far better than points etc since as someone recently said, real battles are rarely between even forces. Great game though the Covenanters won, as I and fellow Confederate commander made a mistake in not forcing the crossing of the stream, even though did most of Irish units as pike heavy but stood there trading shots. Rules were For King and Parliament
Impressive scottish covent army. Looks so good, great! Well done. Need a big gaming table for that army. This reminds me that some day I need to paint Scottish mercenaries for the thirty years war. Again, smashing good work on that army. 👍
