Thank you for your excellent down to earth video review. I have real issues with wind noise (but not buffeting) when riding my 2021 Honda CB500X - even after having replaced the stock screen with a much taller screen. I've also been using mouldered ear plugs but they are a hassle to fit and remove every time I ride and also cause ear soreness. I do as much 110 - 120 km/hour highway riding as well as quite a bit of low speed non technical off road riding on gravel where you need to look down immediately ahead. The perceived advantage of this screen over others is that it appears to be easily adjustable for both (all!) scenarios. It will be interesting to see how securely attached it remains when riding on corrugated gravel. Another perceived advantage is that the clamps are on the sides and not in the middle as is the case with many other types of screen extensions - right in the line of sight and not as securely attached. So, on the basis of your review I've just ordered the kemimoto in the hope that it will solve the noise problem. We shall see ....🦘
I hope it helps! Wind noise at those speeds is hard to fix - unless you’re riding a Goldwing. This screen helped a lot with noise at those speeds, but didn’t cure it. I just got a Shoei RF-1400 helmet. Very expensive, but it’s very quiet compared to every other helmet I’ve owned.
I rode a Honda CV250 back in high school and college. 56 years old now. Watched Itchy Boots’ movie. Been wanting to get back into the game and adventure ride! This was a great message, thank you.
I"m here for a midlife crisis. Not sure if I want it on the 300L or Rally. I'm 265, 6'2 so probably the Rally. I hate cars and don't want to see them, but I feel like I"m to fat to pretend I'm going to go crazy on trails. Your crisis gave me some great insight
OMG! Excellent video. This is the most creative bike video I’ve seen. And it wasn’t just a lark or a spoof. The content and your premise made good sense. Thought provoking. Thanks for this. More please. Subscribe!
Was able to install d-flex pro on 300 Rally without removing handle bar internals by purchasing a longer SS M6 bolt at Ace HW. This option uses the OEM bar end as a spacer. Saved a lot of time & effort.
It’s more about the length of your legs than your overall height. I have a 29” inseam which is shorter than average for someone 5’ 9”. And more than that, it’s about what you’re comfortable with and how much riding you’ve done. There are plenty of people much shorter than us that ride bikes much taller than this one. I started in an XT250 because I wanted to be able to flat foot, and it was great. I think if I would have started in this bike, the height would have been too intimidating.
I own the T7. I really love it and here comes the “but” it’s tall and top heavy! I only ride gravel road and anything else than that I would use another bike. I wouldn’t dream of taking the T7 really off road for single track and so on. I have had one tip over with my T7 and man it’s a heavy bitch to pick up again 🥵if I was going for something else today I would go with the Transalp it runs really good and is lower and not so top heavy. I just hate the look of the Honda, looks so boring! Regarding Aprillia, hmm I just don’t trust their reliability 🤷🏻♂️I have heard that some people have transmissions problems with the Suzuki, haven’t seen anything myself just heard it.
Yeah, I’ve heard that particular “but” about the T7. It’s funny, the bigger bike I finally went with wasn’t even on this list… sort of. I got the KTM 890 Adv. Same engine as the Norden though. It’s really been great. I’ve heard KTMs can be really hit as far as reliability goes, but so far, mine’s been a hit. Love the super low center of gravity with the split gas tank, and the tech is amazing.
Riding in a safe manner goes a long way but I have seen several incidences where the soft front end led to a washout. ABS might have corrected it but perhaps adjusting the front until you decide what's best for you would be in order? I'm too old to be hitting the ground & picking bikes up too often.... lol, I do like the Rally version. Pretty nice bike
Ehh having a WR250R and a Beta 390, if I had to buy my first bike it might be an XR400, but I think I'll be keeping both my bikes for a while. It's not the power of the CRF300 that I don't like so much as the weight. But I'd consider one if I just wanted to do easier dual sport rides in an area with no freeways, or if it's all I could afford and I needed a street legal bike somewhere like CA. I want something that could replace both. Maybe 80% as good as the fancy euro bikes. Something lighter and better offroad than the WR but simpler and more affordable than either. Like a modern XT500. My practical ideal bike: Air cooled 500 tuned for torque, either good tunable FI or a smartcarb, redline maybe 7-9k, mounted backwards for reduced gyroscopic effect, moly steel frame, right side up forks with rubber accordion protector thing so I don't have to keep cleaning the seals, 4 gallon tank, skid plate and handguards, under 300lbs wet.
Mine is arriving tomorrow. What triggered me is that my cell phone (for navigation) in it's upper RAM mount position above my TFT bike screen ('23 KTM Adventure) sits right in the wind -- and rain, and dirt, and bugs. But I'm really looking forward to less wind on me, too. Thanks!
Love the warning on the label..... it's important for folks like me to have those labels like the one on a Hair Dryer ; who would have ever known not to use the hair dryer in the tub or shower? Certainly not me until I saw it on the label, of course I saw it just as the breaker popped in the bathroom.. lmao, guess my life was saved there Or long enough to get a motorcycle? I mean I was destined to die of something awful? So let me get on with it? peace
I got this video saved - valuable info and the handle is more important than anything else concerning a bike..... fast is great but w/ a crap suspension you might not live long enough to go fast twice....? You've ridden this bike but is it as bouncy as I perceive it to be, before the suspension upgrade? I do like the Rally Model & I'm looking at several dual sport bikes but somehow missed this Rally Model? I see another video of you testing the new suspension so I'm going there now.... see ya there!
I can't imagine doing the performance upgrades w/o doing something w/ the suspension..... of course I don't own this bike so I'm just thinking out loud. Time to watch the video ~ as I look at this I think if you did one you would need to do the other as well. This is a rather unique way to show upgrades but it's better than one person saying it's better... lol, here ya both can do the tests & discuss it which makes it a more valuable set of upgrades but I'd want both. Very interesting content, thanks.
So you changed the back suspension & what did the front include? Did you redo the springs or some other swap out? I'm wild guessing & I'm wondering what is the cost for the labor to do the suspension upgrade you did? I'm thinking you did all the work yourself but someone like myself w/o tools could not. What would I be in for, money wise?
I did the full front and back with the Rally Raid kit. I did it myself, so no cost on the install. I took it slow and followed the video they had. Wasn’t too bad.
@@HighDesertHills >> hey man, glad you're still out there. I'm just sitting here doing my due diligence as I research bikes & more specifically, dual sports. I had considered the 300L Rally once & it dropped off my radar but I'm back to finish off the bike, properly. I like the Rally version but the suspension is serious lacking if not a danger? Anyhow, you've got a lot of videos on the bikes I've looked at so now that I'm here - I'll be binge watching your stuff - probably blurting out bull crap but in the nature of learning stuff I don't know. I had forgotten about subbing to you & now I see you've got a lot of videos. Off to it!! peace
Great Video. There is a little more that you didn't cover. 1 - The increased wheel diameter will change the qorque or gearing of the bike slightly. You could do some maths to calculate this. 2 - The stock speedo has been calibrated from the stock diameter tyre. This may change the speedo reading again depending on where the sensor is. Again, some maths required to see if this is significant, although I don't expect so. and finally you did cover that the width and gap to fitment is really important. Actually it may all fit and seem fine. But the larger diameter could foul on body work when you completely bottom the wheels out, say, full gear and hit a large dip that bottoms out your suspension. So maybe some rubbing under the front or rear fender. I haven't done any research to see if that's the case. You will see of hear the evidence of this later on. Overall, thanks for taking us on your (and ours) learning journey.
To me it feels great feathering it, and it’s much easier to do with the wider friction point. That said though, I tend to avoid super technical terrain on this bike. It handles amazing, but it does weight like 450 lbs, and picking it up on a hill would be a nightmare for me.
Les Paul standard is a great guitar, but check out the metal top Zemaitis if you want something in my opinion better. They're lighter, about the same price, you can get them with 24 frets... Awesome guitars, incredible workmanship, play like a dream and they're also prettier then any Les Paul I've ever seen.
I wish people were selling their rallies, they are like gold dust and disappear with a day or two of listing for near new price. I really dont want to buy a brand new motorbike.
Pondering points with Tyler along with the Rally is always considered good advice! Life happens, that's just the way it is, no explanation needed. Nevertheless it's always good to see you post even once a while.👍🍻
They can't keep them in stock , most are sold before ever getting to the dealership , and i've never seen a used one here at a dealership, ever..in years.
simple-they're crap. It's not a 300cc bike & never was. It's a bored out 250cc to 288cc. Too small-sound's like a sewing machine. You need 350-400cc minimum for any sort of touring/adventure riding. These bikes are a glorified trail bike. Buy a Triumph Scvrambler 400X or a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or a CF Moto 450 MT or even a Royal ENfield Classic 350/ Meteor 350 would be better for long distance riding on/off road. May sound like a stupid idea but I've used mine off road & they handle it very well with the 19" front wheel standard. But it's the superb long stroke engine that makes your ride so easy going & relaxing.
My investments are good so I basically get a free bike. FREE. I like that. For many people they get free houses, free everything if those stocks or real estate doubled. There are many people who get free toys, free houses. Zero risk.
At 42 I got go home and die cancer. First thing, bought a motorcycle. Then trip around the world. Bought a nature retreat in Northern MN. At 72, will buy a Honda CRF 300 L Rally. Wife is the only obstacle. Have to give her equivalent money for trip to Paris. Other guy is the problem. Dangerous. Be Frank Sinatra. I did it "my" way. I want the best summer of my life. I have to live my life "my" way. Hard bike to find. $6,200 now new. Great video. Summarized my situation 100%. Excellent job. Forever grateful. Thanks.
It's pretty absurd how difficult it is to live intentionally these days. I feel like most of us are walking around in a constant state of distraction, bouncing from one thing to the next without thinking about whether or not those things are actually worth our time and attention.
I bought my crf 300r at 65y they go anywhere cheap to run Honda reliably. Yes done all the mods as it’s the fun of buying the bike plus I weigh 100kg so you have to do the suspension. If you put some genius rider on the bike you would be astounded where they will go. Shonky productions in Australian does some good off-road singe track on the 300. I have an 2022 Africa twin for highway and dirt roads long haul. Pick your weapon cheers for the content
How does that bike compare to a 1980's XL 250S. I liked to ride on dirt roads that u were on here and highways( not freeways) and i want to ride with my partner with a combined weight of 120KG, is it to small when encountering hills.?
Great conversation on the fence about getting a dual purpose motorcycle living in Hawaii and I think that will answer my knees, but I really felt like I’d shared a beer, a cuppa tea with a friend who given on his answers. Thanks.
