We are in Hilo about 200' elevation. Thanks. It's been a tough year. The rain just wiped out the fruit. I just started picking a few. We may get 2 dozen if we re lucky. Hopefully that means next year will be a bumper crop.
@@bigfish8086 I bought this from Garden Exchange, but anyone who sells trees from Plant It Hawaii can get you one if they are available. I do have a seedling that I recently found growing under a nearby bush that you can have. Or I could save you a couple of seeds if you want. Not sure how to get in touch without posting numbers on here though. Today I did a heavy pruning if you already have a tree to graft too. Got lots of branches to make scions.
@@punasurf4697 Didn't see this variety at the nurseries I went to. I'll try and see if they can get it. Would like to get a tree already grafted. Thanks for the offer for the seedling though. If I can't find any I'll get back to you. Hopefully we can find a way to meet up. Good luck with your fruits. You should post a video of your trimmed tree. Looking forward to the next video.
I think I'm around 730 ft. here in Hilo. Unfortunately this year was our worst. The rain earlier just cleaned us out. I do have about 2 dozen Nam Doc Mai that we are about to pick, which isn't much, but better than nothing. Good luck with your Brooks.
@@punasurf4697 Thanks for the reply. We are phasing out coffee and planting mangos here on our farm. My Rapozas did pretty well last year. Timing the copper sulfate sprays are crucial to get a good fruit set. Anthracnose very difficult to control.
@@EricSchott-co3vs My Brooks definitely struggles with anthracnose but usually does well. My Nam Doc Mai are much more anthracnose resistant. I just planted a seed from a Kona King but I'm not sure if it can handle the rain on this side. Hasn't sprouted yet but if it does I'll find somewhere to plant it. I have several Brooks crosses that should be fruiting in a couple of years. Curious to see how they do. One big difference, by Brooks grow very slow, my Nam Doc Mai grow very fast.
I wanted to make a correction. It's been bugging me since you asked and I finally figured it out. Our elevation is closer to 200'. Big difference. That 730' came from my last home. BTW, I am planning on some heavy pruning in a month or so on my Nam Doc Mai trees. You are welcome to come and take some branches for scions if you want to graft some onto your trees. They are an awesome mango. LMK

I've noticed a drip drip from the middle of the back where the wands come out. Is this what you mean by "constantly running"? Seems like the ring you fixed was over in the input side. Thanks!
To be honest I can't remember exactly what I meant by that, but I'm pretty sure it was not a drip drip drip. But, if you have water coming out then that input valve is letting water get by and the fix should be the same. Good luck.
Hello Derrick, I'm still spraying. 5 times now. All I got so far is a ton of new growth. It's grown so much in 2 weeks that it's covered up the few fruits that I have. I'm in Citrus Park. Got my fingers crossed.🤞
How do you know that it was your spray that caused the bloom? Your tree is healthy enough and doesn't look like it would need any incentives to bloom on its own.
Both of these trees had some of panicles earlier this year but stopped. I waited several months to see if they would continue. Nothing. Now time is running out so I started the treatment. Like clockwork, within 28 days the blooms started. My second tree is now also blooming even though a lot of vegetative growth had already started before I sprayed it. Three years ago my trees never bloomed. That's what got me started on this process. The nursery told me these trees normally bloom every other year here. This is my third straight year. It is kind of a hassle to spray them, but the reward is a hundred fold. If you have a tree that isn't blooming, you have to try it. It doesn't cost much. Thanks for watching!
@@punasurf4697 I don't really have problems with things not blooming. I just let nature take its course. I'm still incredulous that you caused that. Fruit trees will bloom if they have a certain amount of units of energy stored for that purpose. You can't just "trigger" blooms if the tree isn't ready to do it on its own. I think that's more of an old wive's tale. 28 days might have been a coincidence. Do it again 3 times in a row and in different months of each year and I'll believe it, but you have one instance only and that's not enough of a sample size to make a determination. Keep us posted though as I am curious.
@@MasterKenfucius I appreciate your response. In this case, it's about stress. Mangoes need to be stressed. I know of farmers in the Philippines that smoke their trees to force the bloom. If you don't have the proper drought vs rainfall provided my nature, mangoes may not bloom even though they have the proper nutrients. As I write this it is pouring rain again! Mangoes hate heavy rain when blooming. What can you do? Aloha
Thank you. I spray the leaves, top and bottom, and the branches and trunk the best I can. At least for me, the underside of the leaves is important because it is less likely to get washed off by the rain.
Potassium Nitrate. My last video shows the mix. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii. I don't see why it would be too late, but I'm not familiar with your season. As long as the fruit has time to mature before it gets too cold you should be fine.
@@punasurf4697 Thanks, that is what I thought. I have to try. We had a weird month of warm and 5 cold fronts in a row. Was really cold but 55-60 mph gust during flowering stage. Almost all fruit disappeared. Didn't even see it on the ground. Bummer. Thanks again for the reply.
I'm guessing it was about 2 yrs old. We have had one that lasted twice as long though. The thing is, we paid around $250-$300 at the time. Other brands were asking $900 +. I had read that people were having issues with the other brands too. Last time I checked this brand was not available on amazon. I need free shipping here in the middle of the Pacific. Otherwise I get socked $100 shipping.
@@punasurf4697 I see. CleanSense ($340-$360) seems to have a better record, with warm water not limited to its tank size. One unit lasted about 5 years, and the other unit is almost 8 years now. I'm going to revive the broken one with a $60 part. At the same time, I've been trying to find a better brand because CleanSense also doesn't want to make my own repair easy.
Better off using .410 wax/lead loads. Also look up zipguns and 12ga perimeter alarm. Same principle, better execution. A properly made zip that fires when in put in contact with less than 20lbs of force works every time.
That's why it is important to get a grafted tree or graft one yourself. These mangoes are super delicious. Thanks for watching. In a few days I am going to video making the solution. I have a few trees that I need to get blooming.
Yes I did. It was very delicious. I did make a big mistake though. I added some K-mag late in the bloom and almost instantly, a few days, I suffered from the fruit splitting open. I lost a ton of fruit. This year I applied K-mag before the bloom started. I did do a video showing the split fruit.
Yea I saw the video with mango splits happening, at least you got a harvest. I will probably try to force my Glenn to bloom if it doesn’t rebloom on its own. My first set of flowers were toasted by the cold/powder mildew. Awesome videos by the way.
Thank you so much. I have pruned them quite a bit to control their size. After the harvest later this summer, my plan is to prune them down about 30%-40%. This pair of Nam Doc Mai trees grow really thick and fast. I have a Brooks Late that I never prune because it grows so much slower.
@@punasurf4697very good to know. I have a 4 or 5 year old seedling tree planning on spraying it this coming season. Think it's a good idea? Should I drop the dosage? Or not do anything
@@hammerofluke2013 Being a seedling I'm not sure if it's old enough to fruit, but I don't think it would hurt if you tried. I have a few seedlings that are 2 years old that I may try to induce fruiting next year just to see if it can be done. If you try it I wouldn't half the dosage. The whole purpose is to stress the tree. Just don't apply in full sun. If it is growing strong I's say go for it. If it's weak or struggling I would hold off. Also, I am not familiar with your growing conditions. Here everything grows like crazy. I cut a large mango tree down to a tall stump and it is growing back strong. As soon as the rains quit I'm am going to induce flowing since it is not blooming at all. Maybe a couple of weeks from now. I will post a video of the whole process. Thanks and good luck.
@@punasurf4697 I live in 9b/10a in florida. My tree is about 4 or 5 feet tall almost and is growing rapidly. It's really starting to branch out now and by winter I think it'll be nearing 10 feet
I buy it from a local garden store. If you live on the Big Island, Garden Exchange sells small bags. Fairly sure Amazon sells it too. Maybe check any local farm supply stores. I'm waiting for the rains to stop here before treating a tree behind my house. I'll post a video on the process when I do it. Probably in a couple of weeks. Thanks for watching and good luck.
I believe that you can do this any time, but it probably helps if it's summertime when plants are growing strong. I had to take these now because I believe that you do not want your tree to be in full bloom when you take the cuttings. I do not know that for a fact though. The weather here just took a turn for the worst and it got very cold and rainy. I am hoping that this doesn't affect my grafts too negatively, but I am sure it will slow things down. One thing I know for sure is that I have a better success rate putting grafts onto trees that are in the ground as opposed to potted trees. It would help too if these were in bigger pots but I plan on giving these away asap and I didn't want to go buy more pots, soil, cinder, etc..
You're welcome. It is a fairly easy process. I find that I have a higher success rate if the tree is already planted and established in the ground but I am giving these to friends. I need at least 4 of them to take and that shouldn't be a problem. Just have to be careful when splitting the seedling with the razor blade. I have cut myself more than once, usually after the blade gets sticky. Just make sure it is a new blade and it will cut easily.
Termites will never harm a live tree. I have several mango trees which are covered by termites and absolutely no harm done. Termites do a great job of cleaning up all the dead wood and help you. I can share few pics also of my trees covered with termites if you can share your WhatsApp no. Thanks.
That is very interesting! I did have a lot of other critters inside the dead wood. Ants, beetles, and some kind of worm looking thing along with the termites. It wouldn't surprise me that the termites came last. For years now I've had healthy looking branches start dying out so I decided to try to stop it. Hopefully my treatment also kills off whatever is attacking my tree. So far it is looking good. Thanks for the information about the termites and for watching my video. Aloha
Thank you so much. Sometimes I skip making some videos because I'm in a rush to get something done. I have some more mango tree projects coming up. I'll try to post some more videos.
My wife bought a 4 pack of gift cards not knowing they were paper. One tore up as she opened the package. I was trying to get Starbucks to replace the damaged one for a plastic one. Called corporate 2-3 times and they said no. Went to other Starbucks stores and they said no. Tried at Safeway where they were purchased and they said no. So I took out my phone and recorded this so that I could prove to Starbucks that I was refused a replacement. If they just fixed the problem I would have never posted this. Now I drink a different brand of coffee and my friends will receive different gifts. Should have been an easy fix.
You don't have to graft them, but it will take years longer to produce fruit. In a week or two I am going to graft these potted Nam Doc Mai. They will be producing fruit in 3-4 years instead of 8-10 years. I'll make a video of the process.
For the most part I just have one harvest per year. This tree started to bloom on it's own but then stopped, so I treated with potassium nitrate. So it kind of had 2 blooms but my goal is one good crop per year. If I have to force both trees to bloom I try to time it about one month apart to stretch the harvest. As far as yield, I fed this tree w K-mag too late in the season last year and it immediately split hundreds of mangoes. This season I already fed the K-mag before blooming started. I expect to get several hundred per tree if all goes right. I'm still learning. I do expect a great year this year. Weather predicted to be dry which is good. My trees should start blooming any day now. I'll do a video later this year to show progress.
Literally no company will allow you to buy gift cards with a gift card. This has been a thing for nearly a decade basically everywhere... You really need to do some basic research, considering this is far from a new issue.
I actually felt bad for her but I just wanted proof to send to Starbucks to show that I was denied a replacement. Don't think she was cracked out. Thanks for the comment.
@@gracehall9199 I work at restaurant and that has happened to me but I handled it a little better I guess. I still bad for her she seemed so nervous, maybe next time put phone down and only film her voice. The person who made the video was only trying to help shoppers & its not his fault. Or maybe just maybe drugs were involved. Anyway I'm in South Texas laying in bed with my cat 🙀 have a great day
Being polite would not be sticking a camera in a worker’s face and then posting it on RU-vid for all to see. You thought you were going to get more people to side with you, but you are getting the opposite reaction. This is giving me similar vibes from the guy that tried to do the same thing with a Chick-fil-A worker years ago.
