What if the swipe doesn’t work can you tap or use the chip for pre-authorization?

As a bartender continues to ring orders on that check, is the entire amount secured? Meaning, there’s no risk of decline at the end ?

Hey my restaurant has toast and when I slide aa card on the quick sales page it does'nt prompt the name or save the card. Is there something I need to enable for this? Or is there a certain update?
