A major fact this movie doesn’t cover, field marshal Erwin Rommel the desert fox & Albert scheer hitlers minister of war production were also implicated in this plot though unlikely involved but hitlers paronio was so bad Erwin Rommel was forced to commit suicide to protect his family
================================ Global Tyranny is back with a vengeance - ======================================== Communism and Fascism are two sides of one coin. Mankind must again learn the value of Freedom, because the cancel cultures of Russia and Germany - which led to misery and genocide - are back. We need a New System of Government, because what we currently endure is loveless, evil, /
The Nazi Judge that poor Witzleben had to face was Roland Freisler. They did film the trial and they were going to air it but never did because they worried how the German people would react at Freisler who kept shouting and insulting the defendants. There was a reason he was called Raving Roland. It was not a true trial of course giving they were already sentenced to death. Thankfully, a few months after the events of Valkyrie, Freisler got his comeuppance during an air raid. He was going to a bunker but returned to the court room to retrieve documents when a bomb hit the court room and Freisler was killed. Many in Germany were happy he got nailed.
This movie was great, but it’s the one movie that I wish Christopher Nolan had directed. Would have been fascinating to see how he weaves different timelines together into this true story.
To think that it was less than 80 years ago that people where gassed in camps, beheaded and hanged on thin wires so they would suffer more in Europe wakes you up. Barbaric conditions are not as far away from the current day as we think, and history is not that hard to repeat if we don't stand up against rightwing politics.
"Very well, court-martial convened by me in the Führer's absense will pronounce sentences." "Beck, you are under arrest." "Colonel Merz von Quirnheim, general Olbricht, lieunant Haeften and movie star Tom Cruise are comdemned to death."
I keep coming back to this scene over and over again for Beck’s death. A lot of generals and officers like him from before Hitler took power stepped down because they were always against the Nazis. We all know the nazis were racists, monsters and murderous maniacs. But even before that, they were one thing in particular above all else. THUGS. GANGSTERS. Absolutely everything honourable officers who truly believed in patriotism and the fatherland were totally against. Beck’s last words echo that he joined the army as ‘an officer and a gentleman’ and the nazis were anything but.
Jeeez, this is sad to watch a group of men just wanted to save many lives but failed the "long live sacred Germany" almost makes me cry,may staufferberg rest in peace i pay my respects for his sacrifice.
Interesting fact about the judge who sentenced the conspirators: Roland Freiseler used to be a communist. He even became a member of the Russian Communist Party when he was a POW during WW1, and Hitler was well aware about his past. He even called him a "stout bolshevik” in private conversations.
Everyone else: watching this amazing and impactful scene... Me: sees the guy in charge of the executions of the whole main cast... wait is that the same actor who play Lieutenant Kotler in the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, which came out the same year?
That judge on that show / fake court scene was Roland Friesler. He was killed bombing raid to courthouse then bomb hit column and portion of it fell down in him crushing him to death instantly. Source: Wikipedia. That show court was called Peoples Court or Volksgerichtshof.
Hollywood: When conservative military men and aristocrats get together to carry out a coup d'état against a democratically elected power, it goes wrong and everyone is very moved by the response of that State. And as icing on the cake, we insult the judge who is responsible for judging them. Good movie, lousy audience.
The mistake von stauffenberg made was to not make the bomb with an trigger and walk up to Hitler and trigger the bomb himself. He would have died, but everyone else would have lived.
STAFENBERG WAS A HYPOCRITE. HE ONLY TRIED TO REMOVE HITLER BECAUSE HE KNEW THEY HAD LOST THE WAR. HE ENJOYED IT WHEN THE WERMACHT WERE SLAUGHTERING WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN POLAND AND ON THE RUSSIAN FRONT. TOTAL BULSHIT.
Never thought a movie could make me empathize with Germans during WW2 but I suppose you can make the argument that they weren't truly Nazi's, rather just regular nationalists who wanted someone/something better for their country
Don't forget most of them had no problem with the camps, the war in the east, the treatment of the poles etc. They just wanted power in their hands instead of Hitler. They were brave, but not heroes.
Something a lot of people forget, is that the First Nation conquered and occupied by the Nazi’s wasn’t Austria, Czechoslovakia or Poland… the First Nation the Nazi’s conquered and occupied was Germany
The whole point of films like this are to GET people to learn some history. You won’t discover fascinating facts from the past watching Star Wars 16 or the latest comic-book inspired dreck; Valkyrie isn’t meant to be an exhaustively researched documentary.
Unfortunately because of this failure, the High Command was decimated, leaving very few to question the maniacs orders. Ultimately bringing Germany to ruin.
