Let’s Fix It Right is all about helping you fix it right the first time you attempt a home project to save money and give you the personal satisfaction of doing it yourself. This means that you will not have to hire expensive contractors, rebuild your projects, spend additional money buying your material and hardware again, and waste a lot of time. Most important of all, my videos help ensure that you will not to go down the road to failure, get discouraged, and quit. In support of my RU-vid Channel, I have more than 55 years of practical experience fixing it right dating back to my dad’s coaching and my teenage woodworking experience. With engineering degrees from West Point and Texas A&M University, I also leverage this technical expertise. Combining this with my film making “know how” I acquired from working at the Boeing Company, I have learned how to develop efficient and easy-to-understand videos that will empower you to “fix it right” the first time you attempt a project.

, 16JUNE24, before this, I was having to replace my water filter every 3 months or so, today I tried this method on an LG Filter soaked in vinegar for 24 Hrs, so far so good, "light" did not come on once installed again, I ran water thru the line for about a gallon next time will try 1/2 gallon , and no taste of vinegar. Am very please, will wait a few days and see and give an up date. Thank You.

I have a fountain with a large base pond so can’t blow it out, but I’ll use your trick for the two basins! I use a spare garden hose, run one end downhill or to a drain if possible, then prime the hose from the hand sprayer, putting them both into the water for about 20 seconds until the suction gets going to siphon all the water out. Granted I do have a 20 foot slope to the street 😊

I like this video it was great. Any suggestions on how to stop bees from swarming. I have bees swarming in our backyard they are in a hole that in my orange tree, and I believe they will nest soon
Mike, If you have some Fabric Softener, which is used to saturate dryer sheets, try using that. Otherwise, I would soap this swarming area with bee and wasp killer. Hey Al Bacon. I watched the video over many times. In the video (12:55) you have your starting space next to the newel at 3.047. Then your spacing jumps to 3.75” until the last space where it goes back to 3.047. I’m wondering how to calculate this so my spaces are consistent throughout the whole rake wall. I hope this makes sense. Thanks
Mason, As I explained in my video (9:30 to 12:42), this is exactly the horizontal spacing I planned for (i.e., 3.75 inches between each of my 12 metal balusters; 3.047 inches between my group of metal balusters and newel on the left; and 3.047 inches between my group of metal balusters and staircase wall on the right.) The graphic at 12:42 clearly shows how I calculated the two 3.047 inch outside gaps. If you are not sure how to do this calculation or perform a calculation where all spaces are equal, I will gladly help. In other words, we could exchange email addresses and phone numbers and go over your numbers. I would also need to see some pictures of your stairwell. Mskperpen, You could do this. However, you’ll have a lot of vinegar to flush out. As shown in the video (see 3:47 to 4:41), it took me 5 or 6 large containers of water to flush the vinegar out of the water filter and water lines. It will take you a lot more water to flush all of it out. Most importantly, I appreciate your interest in my channel and subscribing. Ricwi11i, Please review 11:39 to 16:00 showing how I made my calculations. Baluster Distances are shown at 12:56. The outside horizontal distance at the edges is 3.047 inches. I also centered my drilling pattern at 15:08. To keep the video shorter, I didn’t show this numerical distance. However, if you do the Trig Math, you’ll find out that this outside distance on top of the knee wall is 3 31/32 of an inch. Otherwise, I appreciate your interest in my channel. Hey Al, new subscriber here. Not sure if I missed it, but how were you able to get away with having the stair nose flush with the laminate without some sort of expansion gap? I’m going to be matching my stairs and second floor to my main floor laminate soon and would like to achieve the same look you have. Also I’d like to tell you that your channel is great and your instructional style is wonderful.
Sean: Please review 3:17 to 3:30 showing how I glued and screwed the forward section of my stair nose down on top of the landing for maximum strength. Section 3:45 to 3:53 explains that I used shims underneath of my forward nose so the top of the laminate floor on the landing perfectly aligns with the top of Cap-A-Tread covering the stair nose. In addition, I filled the 1 ½ gap with shims (See 4:00 to 5:22). If you have additional questions or need more help, email me at abacon73@aol.com. Goldmember66, The Pfister Faucet in my video does NOT have a cap covering the set screw. As shown in the video (1:31 to 1:45), I used a 3/32-inch Allen Head wrench to remove the set screw at the base of the faucet handle. Do you have a different brand of faucet? Thanks, useful. And for others I'll add my experience. Like many, my parts were seized up with lime or whatever from all the leaking. I just accepted the finished retainer was going to be marred by the channel locks. It would not have come off by hand or other nondamaging methods in my case. It did come off though with some effort. Same with the brass ring. I used vise grips. Crescent wrench was not effective. Again I dinged it up and it took some effort again. I was sure it was going to break but it eventually turned. Otherwise, no issues. I would source a new brass ring and finish ring if available before starting. I reused mine but they were pretty beat up. No problem with the handle, though I did clean it up with soft scrub, does a good job on water deposits and soap scum. Rinse well. Loosen the set screw and just wiggle til it comes off.

diedonner299, Contrary to popular belief, bees and wasps aren’t attracted to everything that’s sweet. They have never smelled dryer sheets before in a natural environment, so it can be a bit confusing for them. Dryer sheets are far too strong for bees and wasps. They end up flying away because it is just too intense for them. Even if you have a floral-scented dryer sheet, the bees will stay away. Try it out, you’ll see. Prior to installing the dryer sheets, my Mail Man was attacked by wasps 3 or 4 times from a nest they built inside my mail box. After removing the nest and installing the dryer sheets, we have not seen a bee or wasp near our mail box in the last 3 years. In addition, my Mail Man told me that 15 to 20 folks on his route use dry sheets in their mail box. None of them have bees or wasps in their mail boxes. Nice video. But it's much harder to disassemble in my case. The faucet has been in the kitchen for 7 years and it started to leak water. So I got a new cartridge from Pfizer and tried to install it according to the instructions and your video. But every step was so hard because almost all components were fused together by calcium or whatever from the slow water leak. After struggling I finally took off the small hex screw in the small hole under the handle. But the handle didn't budge at all after that. Using more strength I finally took the handle off but also with inside components. Everything inside is kind of glued together. Not sure what to do next.
NoSuffix, With several component fused together with calcium, I recommend that you place them in a container of white vinegar to dissolve the calcium. If that doesn’t work, you could purchase a new faucet or call a plumber if things seem to be impossible to work on. Otherwise, I appreciate your interest in my channel. I retired recently and have plans for another 200 to 300 great videos. Can you please subscribe and tell your friends and family about my channel also? @@DN-rg9nj Like I said, I finally took the handle off by using so much force that I broke the inside cartridge into two pieces. I also knocked off stuff around the sink with my arm swinging so fast when the handle finally gave out. So it's a good idea to clean the area around before you apply some real force. I did get all those parts replaced at the end thanks to Pfister's perfect lifetime warranty. After I uploaded descriptions and photos to Pfister website, they quickly contacted me back asking if I wanted a new handle with all its inside components or even a whole faucet. I choose a new handle and in days they are couriered to me in several packages, and yes, before the Xmas! Another tip is that soaking the parts in white vinegar doesn't dislodge the inside components. Because I tried that after I took down the handle by force. Soaking the whole handle in double strength (10%) white vinegar for 5 days and everything still stuck together. It's a lost course which can't be saved once it is stuck so badly.
DN, As shown in my video (1:34 to 1:48), your handle should have easily come off after removing the set screw. If it is frozen in place, I recommend that you try spraying some WD-40 into the openings around the handle to free it up. Otherwise, I appreciate your interest in my channel.
