A brilliant performance. Scarlatti was a splendid composer of keyboard works, but I believe he'll always be in the shadow of two other composers who were born in 1685 - J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel.

It's kind of odd that people still bother learning to play and record/perform the same old pieces. Its great, and we should but its interesting, for surely nobody is every going to really surpass an Argerich in her prime just absolutely nailing it!

I never understand how one can butcher a piece in that way. Matsuev has the means to play how he likes: why not trying to be a little more musical? Has he ever heard the aria with a singer and an orchestra? He managed to transform this piece into a cartoon parody like Tom and Jerry. What a missed opportunity.
