I'm not a native English speaker, but his live commentary is very clear and gives me a lot of passion and excitement. Many of Japanese sportscasters are quiet and calm. This is a not bad thing, but sometimes I envy David’s live commentary. Sorry for my bad English.
People can say what they will about Crofty but the level of excitement he brings to his commentary is something special. I've seen so many amazing moments in other racing series soured a tad by commentators who sound like they're hardly paying attention, but F1 has never had that problem.
Crofty does have some good moments but the sheer number of mistakes he makes during commentary is what makes him insufferable. I don't expect him to be right all the time, all commentators will make mistakes but he just makes so many of them. For me the best commentators currently are Alex Brundle (Martin's son) and Ben Edwards. For me personally, they have all the hype and great commentary that Crofty can do but with far less mistakes and overall find them more watchable
I’ve always loved Crofty. Such personality and I feel his energy has brought the necessary excitement needed to fuel the next generation of viewers. Compared to the standard commentators you’ll hear on F1 TV, he’s a gem.
I'd much rather have a loud, excited commentator that makes mistakes sometimes than a golf commentator who does everything perfectly safe. I like Brundle too, but there's a reason he shuts up during the chaotic moments. Ever hear Japanese commentary on sports? Same idea.
