Hope you all like my latest music collaboration with dEk101 : From eternity to here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WRKhIA5wvb0.htmlsi=SkIffZjyC9NktglR
I love what you've done with this. The original is primitive (as mentioned by someone else below) which gives it a charm - you've brought it up to date but kept the charm. Great job. One question though: was it a stylistic decision to bounce the song over just 2 chords? (Using your timings) the original jumped from A to E at 1:41 "my old image" and then down to D at 1:44 "...set to fade away" before returning to A. Your version jumps only jumps to (and stays on) D at these points. (I also realise that the song is somewhere between A and Ab but that's probably down to Andy & Paul's pitch-wheel!) Great job though - just wondering about the chords you used. :D Can't wait to hear more.
Hey reggiekowalski... Thanks for taking the time to listen and to comment. The simple answer to your question about chord structuring is... I don't really have much idea about music theory or any concept of what chord is what. I play everything by ear and play what 'I think' I hear. I like to think my covers are somewhat close to the originals. However, if I do end up playing different chords, it's just down to the way I'm hearing them. I was in band for a number of years with a very loud drummer, that may have something to do with it LOL
Not sure when Photographic was written but, to my knowledge, the first recorded version of Photographic appeared on the Some Bizarre Compilation Album and was recorded late 1980. 'It's written On your Body' entered the UK chart 31st May 1980
Great to hear this again. I remembered it was from a Levi's ad, but didn't know he was drummer with the Troggs. Thanks for the cover & the info. Also love your Two:30 tracks, still looking forward to the album.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and to comment. I haven’t sold any of these covers as I don’t own the copyright. Music is just something I do to keep me sane 🙃
Alright, dEk.I haven't had any notifications for your channel for about 6 months and I suddenly get this video, then I noticed you've posted a load during the time I assumed you weren't posting (due to no notifications). I'm so getting shitfaced this Friday and spamming the f**k out of your channel 😆 Nah, seriously, dEK. I really did think that you hadn't been uploading. I've not even listened to this recording, I'm saving it for a proper blow out and catch up. I noticed that you've also done Burning Car 🤯 I'm going to be like a really fat, greedy kid in a candy store on his birthday, which just happens to also be the same day that baby Jesus was born, while watching a re-run of Liverpool's glorious European Cup win against Milan in Istanbul 2005 🤣Hope you are keeping well buddy 👍 Cheers, Dave.
You're back!!... I thought you'd gone into some sort of witness protection program for sure. And who knew you had so much in common with the baby Jesus! Pure of mind, spirit, a love of football and synth-based music. I did take some time out from posting. My computer died as you know. I did appreciate your offer of a computer loan. But being without a computer was the motivation I needed to find the money for a new one. I have done a few remixes for friends and written and recorded an album's worth of tracks for my collaboration/project TWO:30. You can check out our latest release here ru-vid.com/show-UCZS4gyYa5HxXwrePBdv8MIw. Anyway, glad to know you're back. RU-vid hasn't been the same with out you
Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to listen. I see your channel is going from strength to strength. Anyone reading this should head over to www.youtube.com/@synthof for more great synth covers!
Cheers. JMJ made two albums of collaborations with artists including Tangerine Dream, Vince Clarke, Laurie Anderson, Pete Townsend and Moby. this cover I did was originally recorded by JMJ and Gary Numan during the same period ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HiLFGAi80CU.html
Hello! My name is Adriano. I’m from Brazil. A friend of mine called Andre told me you sent him the instrumental of this song, but he couldn’t receive for a problem in his email. I ask if you could send to me. Thanx. Nice work.
Thank you. Much appreciated. That is me on vocals. The first of many tracks. We have more than an album's worth of material already recorded. You can find us on Apple Music/iTunes/Spotify etc
Not heard anyone do this cover of Johns track before...until now...and its awesome, well done. This was an iconic track of his of whom i've followed ever since his appearance in Ultravox
Wow! you nailed the sound the atmosphere of the song completely. Great cover. Did you know the whole album Metamatic was recorded in a tiny London 8 track studio called pathway? Also engineered by Gareth Jones who went on to work with Depeche Mode.
Cheers. Yes, I was surprised to read that Gareth Jones engineered this track. I also read that John Foxx used to put his synths through amps in the studio and record the output with a microphone rather than feeding them straight into a recorder.
@@dek1014 Yeah tbh I think When John was in Ultravox they were doing stuff like that.Billy Currie in an interview stated he would put his Odyssey through an overdrive pedal or amp, It's hard to believe in this day an age that John Foxx only used an Arp Odyssey, Elka string synth and a Roland CR-78 drum machine for the whole album. Jake Durant played bass guitar on a few tracks. It still is an utterly mind blowing album to listen to even in 2024.
@@abrokenframe82 Same with early Human League, OMD and Depeche. I have a studio full of synths and cant come close to what these bands were producing with a couple of synths 🤣
@@offworldnetwork I know what you mean. When I was a teenager all I had was a Yamaha DX100, RX17 drum machine and a Moog Prodigy all recorded to a fostex 4 track, but It was the most productive time for my song writing. Now I have a room full of equipment but lack the creative spark!
LOVED hearing this! Such a tribute to amazing music. I bet you had so much fun covering it. When this type of music came out there was nothing like it and it still sounds new 40+ years later
I wondered when you might do this, right back when you did open your heart. This track is perfect for your voice. The backing vocals could have been tricky, but you've dealt with them no problem. Music & vocals fantastic.
Thank you. I think I kind of overlooked this song when it cam out originally. I was far more taken with Being Boiled. However, I recently started listening to this again and thought I'd give it a go
Blimey, that's a good cover. I always struggle to find the meter in the intro but that obviously isn't a problem for you. Great work as usual, you even sound like Phil in this one!
@@ma1nsun Cheers Vlad. I hope you are well. I have been without a computer for nearly 6 months 😕 I have a new machine. Looking forward to making lots more music 😊
Lovely stuff! I was listening to some of your older covers, and wondering where you had gone. I often have breaks from the internet - I read a lot, and a pile of books needed to be checked out. Sounds are spot on, yet again, even that odd little percussive 'synthetic castanets' sound, which I always liked. The League Mk.1 are my favourite iteration of the band. Not as poppy, but tons, and tons of ideas. I mean, what other band would put out a Flexi disc with a record (The Dignity Of Labour 1-4), in lieu of sleevenotes? And then use most of the space to have an argument, and read small ads from the local paper? Genius. Phil says a couple of lines pertinent to the record, near the end. And that's it. - it's included as an extra track on the CD of 'Reproduction', if I remember correctly. I play that, instead of the actual disc. Thank you again for another top track. Nice one. 👍👍👍
