Hi Steve! It's Harvey Canter from Jack Segal's songwriting workshop at USC back in 1981 or so. We worked together on a couple of songs. Glad to see you doing so well at Danelectro! Best regards!
Hey Tim, how's the wear and tear on your fingers? Is it an easy and comfortable instrument to play. I know some 12 strings can be very tiring on the hands. Thanks for posting video beautiful playing you have that Byrds vibe.
The lipstick humbucker actually rips pretty good when you give it some fuzz. Like maniac, out of control sometimes. The P90 clone in the bridge has a really nice Punk sound to it if you add some fuzz or pull back a little bit to do some garage rock. I would not do metal. I would do something heavy and melodic, like Deftones. Then grunge, alternative, shoegaze, whatever else you want to lump into that fuzzy bucket. This thing is really jangly and lose, fun to play. The neck is very flat, 14" radius, so be aware. I am still getting used to it. But the sounds you get, worth it to try and adjust the technique if you are used to more of a curve while chording. I have a larger semi-hollow (AM53) I have setup with thick strings for the really rich heavier stuff. Almost like a Jazz setup but I run it through fuzz boxes and reverb. I am using this one for Clean tones mostly and some delay and phaser, effects stuff and it is sooooooo versatile. I would absolutely snag one of these from the 2010s without the tremelo (unless you like it! I do not). The sunburst model I have looks amazing and I found it for $500. I would suggest anyone reading this in 2024 or the near future to try and find one at that price before they increase. The other colors are already around $1,000. This guitar RIPS!
Just stumbled on this guitar, didn't know it exists. I already loved offsets and those old Mostrites and in the last year I got into so semi hollow bodies. This looks so sick with just the one cutaway. Looks sleek too, I love my AM 53 because it's skinny as hell. Holy canoli. I think I gotta get it, right? That's why god gave us credit cards....
Considering that the REVERB FIX spring pedal is $350. this is a GREAT alternative ❤️❤️❤️ had my eye one this model since i learned what spring reverb was. … one day
Man, what could be nicer for a lazy afternoon strum session, than a Dano with the classic setup? And those sweet Danoelectric vibes take me away for a visit with old friends and places in the haze...
Awesome 12 string tune you put together and the bass line really supports it. Did you do the bass part too? It would be cool if you would put a video up for the bass part of this tune.
I just got a TC Electronic unitune from sweetwater (They seem to be the only distributor) It's a good tuner but I don't think it's as good as the Snark Hertz tuners....only thing that makes it different is the fact you don't have to tune in sequence from thick to thin strings. I like the hertz number tuning better then the strobe unitune. You can get them as close to perfect even if the unitune is slightly more accurate. The Snark is easier to get almost dead on with the numbers vs strobe scrolling. I need to know how accurate the Snark Air tuner is before I'll buy one. I believe they are hiding the accuracy because they never list it in the specs. I just got a 3.00 chinese tuner from TEMU that is a very good light tuner. Not perfect but a great deal....almost as good as the snark and unitune in light mode
One of my favorite guitar vids of all time. I forget about this for a while, but keep coming back and rediscovering it. I would buy a whole record of this without hesitation.
Excellent demo thank you for this. There is some odd intangible quality to Danelctros and definitely going to buy one asap. A must have for one's arsenal.
I just got it and it sounds awful! You think I got a bad one? Cuz this video is why I got it and it sounds noisy and obnoxious. I just want a plain decent spring reverb sound and it's just annoying and the volume does almost nothing
I bought this guitar thanks to this demo and love it! I'm also trying to learn the demo song because I love it too! The only issue I've noticed with the guitar is that the tone pot only seems to take effect at the very end of travel rather than a gradual change of tone all the way through turning it, wonder if anyone else has had this? Anyway thanks Tim for your demo and great musicianship!
I'm trying to buy a guitar from you, and 1) You put ads at the beginning? -and- 2) Can you not afford/find someone who can actually play slide blues guitar? There's a LOT of competition at this price point, and you're not winning. Disclaimer: I LOVE Danelectro instruments overall, and I own a bunch of them. Folks, get your act together. Why spend all this time making an instrument, and then fumble the ball right before the end zone? Pull it together.
Danelectro still rock ! 🔥 Thats crazy all the new lines available right now, maybe the only one that could complete the whole collection to make it perfect, could be a reissue of the Dead On '67, that such an amazing guitar too !
I own two Ric 330s, one six and one twelve string. By now they are forty years old and they are two splendid old ladies. Believe me though, the twelve string is bloody hard to play, the neck is tremendously narrow and crowded with strings, especially for a guitarist with big hands like me..
It does indeed sound like a Rick to me as well. Fyi, I watched a side by side, here on RU-vid, between a real Rock and Danelectro but... the Electro had the Libstick pickups usually found a Danelectro. Both 12-string...the Rick sounded like... a Rick....but the Danelectro sounded very little like a Rick...I liked how it sounded but it didn't have that Chime a Rick has. But this video... I wouldn't be able to tell which was which if I didn't see...
Tim, The Danelectro sounds great!. I would compare it to a Rickenbacker 12 string. I would like to know if the music you played on this video is just a demo, or is part of part of an actual song publicly available. The piece reminds me of music that was popular in the 60's.
