I really wanted there to be a sequel to this movie called “The adventures of Daniel Holt” or some such. Jeffrey Wright did such a great job with this character.
'm from northwest Missouri. That scene was filmed in Pattonsburg, or at least what was left of the old town. Most of the old town was abandoned after the Grand River flooded residents out in 1993. The federal government bought out most of the home owners and the town was moved or reestablished on higher ground to the northeast. I actually drove through the town during the filming of this movie. I was on my way home from Bethany in 1998 or so. I saw scores of horses tied up on rope lines strung between trees The business buildings on main street had been remodeled or covered on the street side with old timey wooden sheeting to simulate mid-1800s architecture. I saw all the people dressed in 19 century outfits milling about and thought it was some type of reenactment. I had no idea they were filming a movie there until I read about it weeks later in the St. Joe paper. I didn't see any roadblocks or security of any kind.
My dad was a cop working off duty security on the set here. It got flooded out and they had to shut down for a while. He actually snuck me onto the set one day while it was shut down so I could look around.

I grew up in AK from the age of 8 in 1962 until I finally moved to the Lower 48 in 2015. When Jewel released her first album I was so very proud to be an Alaskan in my heart. She’s such an excellent and phenomenal steward of this great state and I’m so grateful for her music!
The scene with Mr. Evans is my favorite scene in the whole film and also one of the top 5 scenes regarding the American Civil War. Mr. Evans’ speech is a clear explanation on why the confederacy (I’m not capitalizing it because I want to disrespect it) was a lost cause from the start and couldn’t beat the Union in the long run. The confederacy had no purpose or ability for everyone that was a part of it to be unified and for everyone to gain something from it for the better in their lives. The confederacy didn’t offer anything better than the Union could provide the American people.

I do love this movie. Sappy yes but just makes you smile and feel good. Jim Belushi is the only man that makes the receding hair line mullet look cool.
In WW1, a wound that gets you send back home is called a "Blighty" (Britain, send back to Blighty). Most soldiers can only dream of receiving a "Jewel".
Jonathan rhys meyers must have one of the most beautiful faces in cinema and he also is good actor, I wish to see him some more. This movie is so good, I highly recommend it.
What a great movie, this is no John Ford western , the 18th century vernacular, attention to detail , Tobys performance is so good. Im from the former country of Yugoslavia where in our times the hell of neigbor vs neighbor showed its ugly face.
