Hi, Thank you for the comments. The sound was sync-sound (on set) and we used double-system recording, as done professionally. It's done the same way with Super 8 as with any format, except the camera noise is a bit louder and more difficult to dampen. You also need to adjust the syncing in post if your Super 8 camera is not crystal sync. If you're thinking about trying it, please reach out and I would gladly give all the tips you'll need. It's very exciting to see more enthusiasts use Super 8 film on ambitious levels.
@@MrDanielmac whoa any tips would be great. I am currently about to shoot a test roll of vision3 200t over the next few weeks with my new(to me Bauer c Royal 6e and the little scene I had written was going to have dialogue, it’s not crystal sync but I’ve been doing the research about the ~24 frames that I can move around in post.
@@madskdz Hi Lyle, Tip for shooting - Do as quick of slates as possible to get the most run time out of the roll. For editing - A lot of trial and error, but it's probably better to cut up the soundtrack rather than picture when re-syncing a shot. Have fun. There really are many tricks to perfecting the art of Super 8 in shooting, scanning, and editing, if you have any questions, don't hesitate; my email address is in my youtube channel.
The man whose following kinda looks like Jason Schwartzman. I thought this was a well paced movie! Nice job! I hope you got it transferred in at least 2K!
Wow, so that's Super 35, 3-perf then. Of course this scan (file) doesn't do it justice. Anyway: loving it! The framing is perfect, since it tells the story as much as the acting does. Of course the pedantic guy, afraid of Covid, is just a metaphor for a man with low self esteem, afraid of being rejected by a girl. Nice one!
Very nice! Love the film noir style venetian blinds shadow. Was the dialog in part replaced (ADR)? Did you apply time stratch/compression in post to match the non-sync camera? Looks great and I love the dialog editing. I checked a few times. Great use of J- and L-cuts and cuts exactly between phrases when these are no suprise. I say that because it's hard to make dialog editing truly smooth and you did just that.
Hey, thank you. I didn't do ADR, but I did stretch frames a little to sync up to the sound. I have since bought a crystal sync camera of the same model and I want to use it for a feature.
@@MrDanielmac sounds great! Well IMHO never mess with the frame rate. You have fantastic time stretching/compressing software nowadays. All top DAWs (Cubase/Nuendo, ProTools, LogicPro,...) come with it. Excellent location sound, especially considering that the male actor talks very quietly on purpose. Great work. Best of luck for your feature! Looking forward to it! Edit: do you have a Nizo with crystal sync? Didn't know they existed. Great choice anyway. Please shoot your feature at 24fps (just a humble request).
@@truefilm6991 Yes, 24fps as always. I time-stretched in post. I now have a Nizo 6080 with a crystal sync conversion that was done years ago by The Film Group. They might still do it. I'm sure a crystal sync camera from Pro8mm is the best product, but they're out of my price range.
@@MrDanielmac Yes for your projects a crystal sync camera is crucial, since you like to include longer shots with dialog. ADR is OK for certain styles, but of course original location dialog is always the best. Good luck with your upcoming projects!
I'm probably over-analyzing, but I see the title "Humans," then I see some animals. I expect a comparison, or some humans to show up. I see different animals, wonder when humans appear. Ten seconds in I feel nostalgia, emotion, an intense draw I can't place my finger on. A minute in and I think it's about how humans keep these animals, in zoos and petting areas, how humans treat them. Then I think about the comparison, these animals are living their lives, simple, patient, walking around, doing a lot of nothing. No taxes, no made up jobs. For better or for worse. Then I see the lions. Nature is brutal, the strong and fit survive. But even some of them look cute. They look cute to our brains biologically programmed to see children as cute. If only a survival mechanism, it is still a fun experience to enjoy. I over-analyzed... Great film though.
Very lovely short film. I love the idea of being able to become friends with someone so quickly just by finding the right moment to break some sort of shell. I don't think such a hug would be positively received realistically (I feel like someone would elicit a more frightful response rather than "I'm being silly") - which is definitely understandable, as wearing masks and social distancing should be promoted. That being said, the film still focuses on the important part, and focuses on it well with its short time frame. The comedic pushing with the tape measure made me laugh, and the conclusion was a sweet resolution - the music score works perfectly with these moments, and no dialogue was needed! Well done on the film, excited to see more.
I shoot titles on film. It's cost-effective to use a roll from a film bundle on your project. I make my own title cards on big black poster cards, hang them on a wall, and shoot about 7 seconds of each card. If you use Super 8 cameras, the lenses can be hard to focus; use a tape measure. As for exposure, it will take trial and error at first. Bracket exposure. And in editing, you may adjust exposure to make blacks deeper and whites brighter.
Hi i’m a huge fan of all your work here in Vietnam. I just wondering could you add subtitles to your film? My english is not that good to hear it clearly. I’d love to be able to understand your film. Thanks and keep doing your great work :3
