And this isn't even mentioning the amount of prefarming I had to do beforehand. I think I prefer the initial grinding I had to do to survive Reverie's abyss mode over SC's initial grind now that I'm looking back. The harder settings are quite wonky when it comes to FC and SC. I've seen people mention Sky wasn't balanced with the harder settings in mind. Though even 3rd felt like a more balanced experience.
I think I recall unlocking that feature from exploring the interstice boundaries. And those unlock from completing the stuff on the board at the Hakurei shrine.
I recall both runs I did in 3rd that I just left Jinu on Anelace since I preferred the stats it provided over other options available. Some stuff I read does mention that it needs to be equipped, but I personally don't know.
@@TPY-PrinnySTGnever mind, I equipped Jinu and won. It's so easy with Richard spamming his craft and others use La-Tearall after boosting their speed with Clock Up EX first.
I recall trying to focus a bit more on following scoring strategies early on just so I have the resources for the later portions of the game. At least I don't recall it being too difficult to reach the extend requirements once I got the momentum going. Otherwise, I was being patient due to being at the ying yang orb's mercy. Even now I don't consider myself that good at breakout style games. Probably wouldn't hurt to be liberal with your bombs.
@@TPY-PrinnySTG Yeah, your strategy seems like a good idea. Ima just take a break and try again later. It's my first time playing this time of game, but even on easy mode I'm really struggling on that last boss. Do you have any recommendations of other Touhou or similar games that might be a better start for me?
This is admittedly a tough one for me to answer because at this point I'd have to give my shmup recommendations since all the touhou games after the first one are shmups rather than breakout style games. As far as breakout games go, I've played DX Ball early on but my memories are vague at this point. If you plan to just stick to PC98 Touhou, LLS (Touhou 4) and MS (Touhou 5) play out more traditionally and that style goes on to the Windows era games. PoDD (Touhou 3) is kind of my personal favorite, but that one is a bit odd and ruthless. But if that one seems interesting just try it. I liked it enough to put in the work to have that as my 3rd lunatic clear in the series. SoEW (Touhou 2) is admittedly a pretty rough game from what I remember. As far as windows games goes, PCB (Touhou 7) and IN (Touhou 8) are pretty beginner friendly. Its hard for me to speak of the other games just because I'm not familiar enough with them. I know I put some stuff up for the other games, but they kind of don't stick out as much in my head. I'm kind of going through UFO (12) on a random whim of mine right now. Now as far as arcade shmups go, maybe Darius Gaiden. I believe ZUN did mention that was his favorite game and that style kind of shows in the other Touhou games. DariusBurst Another Chronicle wouldn't be that bad of a choice either from the games I've tried. Otherwise there are Cave games if you are looking for more bullet hell style. Though Mushihimesama is probably my personal pick due to the time I spent in it. There is Eden's Aegis if you decide to look at other Doujin games, but I do feel the slowdown in that is pretty excessive compared to other shmups. Its just that the shield mechanic can help you out when starting even if it can lead to bad habits. I'll also be odd and throw Ys games into this list. Amusingly enough, I think Ys 2 and Oath in Felghana have enough stuff where shmup skills are kind of transferrable. I've at least put some stuff up for Felghana. The stuff I do have videos on are probably on the niche side. It probably doesn't help that I feel I turned my channel more into a JRPG channel in recent years even if I do still put out some shmup stuff. I do feel its better to go through Zig's or even Jaimers' videos just to see what games you might be interested in. Do feel the best way to approach shmups is to pick out whatever seems interesting and go from there since that is honestly how I went about exploring the genre. The only advice I can give is to persevere since this isn't exactly an easy genre. Credit feed if you need to if it'll help you learn stuff.
Congrat dude, that Byakuren fight was so breathtaking, and the fact that you almost squeezed your hitbox through that tight gap and ended the game with 0/0 is the cherry of the cake!
gg, would be awesome to see you back have you checked up on the new mechanics knowledge yet? coin gain has been improved a lot, and given it's normal0 you have a lot of freedom to optimize it
I haven't checked if anyone managed to work out new stuff for type-c. Was just trying to shake off a lot of rust since I was free the week this run happened. Its more honest for me to say I was trying to practice the ideas I had for my rank 2 runs in rank 0 since I got tired of resetting from screw ups.
@@TPY-PrinnySTGstill cool mechanics got pushed a lot, turns out proximity > speedkill for coin gain and overkills matter for big enemy cancels as for new routes, i got some vods on twitch, not exactly the most consistent stuff but it scores a lot
@@inakilbss I'll keep those in mind if I find myself doing more runs later. I haven't looked too much into overkills when it comes to type-c, but always did have a hunch that it was related to discharge kills.
I still kind of wonder what this run would have been if this was 1.22 since I'm still not sure I can call this a pb even though my pace was a bit better than my last 1.22 run up until area 7 where the difference in multipliers kind of widens the gap. I know the stuff I have up on restartsyndrome are still just 1.22 runs.
I still wouldn't be surprised if I haven't tapped into type-c's potential. Was just mostly following the idea of milking the tougher enemies when I got this run. I need to check if there are more resources for type-c to study off of since I've been thinking its time to revisit this game.
@@TPY-PrinnySTG well, its my first time finding a video like this. There are muchs for type S but not type C sadly. Also, is not neccesary to do TLB fight?
Honestly I was kind of hoping there would be more stuff on type c shot types when I did a quick search. Not fighting the TLB is more me not being too confident with surviving its patterns not to mention I was still experimenting with how to spread my resources. That and the requirements for them generally ask for you not to get hit a certain number of times, and I'm pretty bad making sure I don't get hit. I'm probably burning just as much resources on a run like this as I do on a type-s run with azerlete. So even if I did trigger Elm Order or Vier Dummy I wouldn't last too long just because of the lack of resources from burning them all up for discharge milking on stage enemies.
@TPY-PrinnySTG i think there's still a lot to be gained from st7 with more aggressive pointblanks and a better core unit also idk if you're treating rank as a category but i think every rank except 1 and 3 has its strengths: - 0 has the slowest bullets - 2 adds stage 2, rank 2 chloe and has vier dummy under 3 hits, which might be worth 500m if played really well - 4 adds stage 4 - ex has vier, which i think is like 1.1-1.2b if played really well, but has stupid fast bullets and is hard to keep, more likely to be worth it in arcade cause slower bullets a lot of stuff to take into account and the answer might vary by skill level, but i think there's a lot of stuff to discover, maybe arcade 5b will happen and type s won't hog that achievement anymore
I think I vaguely recall prioritizing on leveling up Estelle's orbment slots when I last went through SC. As for Schera, I admittedly don't remember if there was an opportunity to go to Grancel's orbal factory during this section but I probably slot in one of the EP quartz I had when I unequipped everyone else. If there is an opportunity to do shopping at this part, its unfortunately a very tight window since I recall the game being pretty strict on where to go once everyone else in the party is out of commission. Again, sorry if this is vague as it really has been a while.
I think when I wrote that, I was mostly recalling how much ice cream I was force feeding him just to get through FC's final boss. Though those 2 did actually fight when Loewe was using the name Lorence during the tournament.
Why didn't you use S-crafts chains at around 2000 HP? You could use Wild Rage 2, and have both Estelle and Agate use their S-crafts. I assume you are trying to spare your CP for later use, but it's not that hard to build it back up.
I think this particular attempt I was still doing things pretty cautiously and I was still working out how to approach the fight on nightmare. I want to also think I was trying to avoid just dumping s-breaks just to finish a fight, but I forgot if that was something I was trying to do when I did this nightmare run. I know I got stumped trying to figure out how I wanted to end the fight at that last moment. I know being efficient was not the aim when I was doing these recordings given how much I decided to drag Tita along in SC.
Well Meiling's mountain breaker have high pierce, and she can tank to take some hits, and also can heal, so why not. Btw talking about pierce, Rumia have higher pierce than Meiling, so in term in DPS she is better (ofc).
In hindsight, that honestly would have been a better idea. I don't think it occurred to me that I should be using Rin for switching until a bit later in the playthrough and even then I don't think I took advantage of that during my recordings.
