I don’t like the idea to “Copper seek a line”, I like the Copper have different uses: want to explore? Copper brush! Want to build? Copper blocks! Some Redstone? Copper bulbs! I like every player can or need to use Copper. I don’t like idea to replace Iron with Copper too
Idea: A copper chunkloader block. It allows the world to continue on without the player there! Though, the block might need to be a bit expensive due to its power
I'm pretty sure Copper's Identity is clearly for Building. The oxidizing mechanics even clearly states that because we get to have more colors of Metallic block variant. (Iron block is Ugly... Don't even start me with that Gold block) We're just too used for Mined minerals to be, or in the eyes of casual player, should have been another tool/armor/weapon upgrade. Quartz is mostly the same but it has a use on redstone recipes. And what's bad is that when we think of Copper IRL, we think of it as this conductors or metal that can transfer power when in my own opinion, Its just a Video game and no need to inherit what copper is in real life (look what happened to Firefly) (Except maybe for some exceptions like Lightning Rod) As a Builder and slightly a Redstoner I am content for what Copper is and I get that (and I bet) A huge portion of Minecraft is just not really into building and creativity (Which I do think leads videos like "Why Minecraft is Boring" because they barely delve into creativity) but if people looks pass that, there's too many things to do in Minecraft. It's just the game also does a Bad job at introducing it to you. For example I bet majority of MC players barely brewed a Potion... Well that's because there is no IN-Game-Recipe how to brew potion. You just have to look it up on Wiki, do it and you'll never memorize it again once you're done with it. And there's even Fireworks mixing, Banner creations, Flying machines, Cannons, Super creative Vehicles so detailed, it looks exactly the same as an IRL vehicle, only it does not work. People need to dive into creativity because its a skillset you can apply in real life too.
Copper ore had a use before 1.21, but now that they added trial chambers, which are full of literal copper blocks, there is almost no reason to go looking for copper ore since you can just get copper for free from the trial chambers.
I have the idea for an air-fan type block made with grates and a breeze rod. It would have a ~32 block range and would decrease in range by ~8 blocks per level of oxidation. I also think that some new trap type blocks or offensive blocks would be fun! Now I want to see the copper equivalent to the compass and clock too! I also had the idea of a wrench type tool but I think it would work better for iron in your system.
I dislike the iron golem change. I understand that as a tool it functions independently of the player, and I agree with your idea of coppers mechanical identity, but a golem is a form of independent life, giving an inanimate object life is giving it independence. I think that a copper golem should exist parallel to the current iron golem. It could function as a automator for some other process that could require tools perchance?
Criticizing mojang is fair. Also, yes, they ARE lazy. I'm a game developer, I know how hard it is to code, have good and balanced mechanics and draw. But Mojang's updates have been lackluster, and despite their fat investments, they are easily bested by random guys in the modding community. They are also extremely arrogant and disrespectful towards the original vision, remaking the iconic art and calling it "programmer art". Google "programmer art", it's a slang for "placeholder bad art made in a hurry". Also, they made a document saying what fits into minecraft, and they included stuff like "we cannot add mobs that change or destroy blocks". The Creeper, who breaks and destroys blocks, is one of the most iconic monsters in video-games. No, criticizing a company is not "lazy", it's completely normal, specially when the company has been delivering bad content. I could go on and on about stuff like polar bears being a meaningless feature, the warden being a poor game design choice, etc. But my comment is long enough. Stop idolizing companies, especially if they are deserving of backlash.
In my opinion it would be better to give copper more uses but not by replacing uses that iron already has. My idea is that copper will be able to transfer electricity but not in the way redstone does. Because redstone is more like circuting, while electricity could be used as a power source like coal.
I think a good way to expand on the identity of copper while using what is already provided would be to have copper be the metal of fine smithing and beauty. The telescope, brush and horn are all fastened together with fine copper wire, and the copper golem displays things for all to see. I think that something like copper fastened jewelry or other such fine smithing would be a decent enough niche, especially if it came with some kind of reputation mechanic. Maybe depending on the amount/quality of jewelry you have, villagers might have cheaper costs? Or maybe jewelry could have their own brand of social enchantments, which modify the behavior of other mobs, like a pumpkin jewelry that makes endermen actively friendly and willing to attack mobs that hurt you, or one that makes creepers chill out and not explode around you.
I think Copper's identity was intended to fit the niche of weather given oxidization, lightning rods, and now with their connection to the breeze in the trial chambers. While weather as a feature is already pretty lacking in game Mojang could likely expand upon them making the gameworld a bit more dynamic while fitting copper in to gauge or take advantage of those conditions; items like weather-vanes and rain gauges could coincide with lightning rods and act kinda like redstone components to give us more game events to detect. Maybe they could add in wind and hot air balloons made in part with copper, that coinciding with the spyglass could help players with early game traversal and scouting. I'm sure there's more applications for this concept that I haven't come up with but it really does fit with the initial identity of the material we were presented with.
Just turn gold rails into copper rails. Seriously this fixes so many issues. Copper is super abundant so rails can be used more early game for transpotation and are less expensive. You need a shit tonn of rails? Well there is a shit tonn of ore to make them and is easy to get! I really wish there was a mod like that. There might be, i just haven`t found it for my version of minecraft.
For the Gold and Iron thing, it slightly relates to how iron was said to hurt magical creatures who touched it. Gold is a valuable object though I can’t think of a direct comparison other than lots of religous artifacts and whatnot are made out of gold.
