Hi Darryl, how were you able to lift the green spacer. Mine seems to be all the way down and I can't seem to lift it to put the zip tie. I don't want to break the spacer. It doesn't show on the video how you were able to put the zip tie unless the green spacer was loose and gave you the space for the zip tie.

This worked perfect for me! But in my car it was the front cable that had slack and needed the zip tie.
@peterford387

The front what? Are there two cables in each door?
@robdavies-ft1sl

Is the front cable located behind the speaker? And how do you remove the green spacer please?
@prshrzd
@prshrzd Год назад
@@robdavies-ft1sl it's been so long so I'm going on memory, but for me it was the front cable. You don't remove the green spacer, but you take out cable slack by putting a zip tie under the green spacer.

So it seems like none of the microswitches needed replacing in this entire procedure, which is great to see. I have a '99 996, I feel the mechanisms would be pretty similar in both cars. My problem is this, when I lift the door handle, the window drops, but doesn't STAY dropped as you open the door. As soon as the door opens, it goes back up to fully closed. So when you go to close the door, it hits the convertible top edge ever so slightly. What do you reckon could be the problem?

@@abemoon9262 mine fixed itself somehow, lol. The window goes down and stays down now. But when I had the problem, all signs pointed to my door handle microswitch that needed changing. Wasn't a cheap replacement part so I was stalling it.

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. Both of my windows aren't dropping enough when opening the door. They used to both work, so it seems odd they would both act up around the same time. I removed the drivers side door panel and the regulator cable looked tight where the green plastic piece is. I didn't notice any space below it, like in the video. So what do you think it could be causing this?

I have a 97 Boxster and sometimes I pull the door handle (from the inside) and the window drops but then the window may jump up and down. When I get out the window is back up so the door won't close properly. If I pull the inside door release a few times the window convulses and eventually it drops and holds. I close the door and the window pulls up. Do you think this also relates to the regulator?
@INearlyShirtMyPants
@INearlyShirtMyPants 7 лет назад
Sounds like you're having the same issue I'm having. It's not the regulator, it's the microswitch. Mine isn't telling the window to drop at all, yours seems to be sending confusing signals. I'd start by replacing that cheap part first, then move on to the $400 regulator if that hasn't fixed it. Quick Tip: buy Porsche brand regulators (if you end up having to). The others can break in under a year, then you're buying 2 window regulators in the same year. Not worth it. Just grab Porsche at the beginning and do the work once.

Thanks for your insights. I also have to drop my windows (both) a bit when retracting the top as they don't do this automatically. Separate microswitch perhaps?
@INearlyShirtMyPants
@INearlyShirtMyPants 7 лет назад
jsbrown51 I was literally just messing with my car to fix my "no drop" problem. My microswitch connector had been cut by the window. I guess I messed up on the original placement or something. Long story short, the door open drop works now, but it won't drop for the top. Only one of my windows does. Which makes me think you might be right about a second switch/sensor somewhere. So, if you find out how to fix that part let me know!
@joejoe188
@joejoe188 5 лет назад
INearlyShirtMyPants I know it's a hassle maybe, but why not just use the power window switch, put the windows down a little then proceed to lower the top? I currently just use the key, turn to the left and hold to drop the window some before I open the door to get in. At please in the meantime I am not damaging the window opening or closing the door

Thanks for your video, Darryl. Q: Was the window not operating at all or just not dropping when opening/closing the door? On my 2003, I hear the "click" through the door panel when I press the window switch but no other response. Again, thanks!
