Great times. Kids behaving like kids should , not bolshie, arrogant or overly confident but just enjoying the racing and camaraderie that went with it. A great time to be alive and racing on those wonderful natural tracks which were usually built by our hard working dad's. There were no technical instruction videos in those days to teach us proper riding techniques , we were all self taught , but if any of our mates stumbled across something that worked well they'd usually share it and we'd all give it a go !! Simply more innocent times but so much fun , the golden era of schoolboy scrambling where just being there put a smile on your face.
I think we did first Devon TRF coast to coast in the early 90s? Great times but a distant memory, I imagine a few of the old boys I used to ride with have moved on?
Looking to see if I could find my girlfriend and I at the 78 race, we got married a couple months later, didn't make the 79 races. I got orders back to the states in Arizona to another Air Force Base. had fun camping there that's for sure I still have my 1978 program too.
Oh my goodness. I stumbled upon this video and the memories came flooding back. 1981 I raced Schoolboy A on a Kx-80, I wee never lost a race except for a few DNF because of flat tires. The YZ-80 was faster that year but the KX had way better bottom end. I remember a race where our local track looked like this, like a big ole wet bar of soap. Talk about separating the men from the boys. In 82 I raced 125 JR on a Yamaha YZ-125 and won every race but one, had a flat tire but still pulled a second. 83 I moved up to 250 and raced a Suzuki RM-250. Those were wonderful years and such great memories with my Dad who supported me whole heartedly. Thank you for posting this.
What a great little video of a great period in Scrambling, so pleased i was part of it. Gorgeous natural track with lots of tricky grass off cambers, especially first thing in the morning. Great memories. 🥰
Nothing better than standing a few feet from your heros.Getting your ears pierced by loud motos and every now and then eating some roost.Natural terrain and the smell of grass and loam.So sweet.
Racing with BSMA Warley Wasps still wearing a yellow vest to denote it was one of my first 10 races, I lined up at Upper Rocombe? Arriving the night before, my father and I wondered where the track was only to wake and find it ran unsurprisingly perhaps up the side of the valley which was so steep we couldn't climb without being on all fours.
les transpondeurs c'est autre chose mais quant il y avait un salle temps elles étaient abritées cabane ou vieux bus mais noter tous les tours de toutes les manches et de chaque catégorie vous m héritier une médaille bravo
these vids are bringing back such great memories of my racing in the early 80's. I love the Stadium 9 comment below. Thats the lid I wore. Posh boys had arai !!!
Great days. I raced in South Wales ssc sng glyneath ssc. As others said proper natural tracks all different all tricky and yes he early dew practices were always sketchy. Thanks for the memories
Great memories. Proper natural tracks with tricky gnarly sections. Practice was always slippery with the dew on the grass until the top layer was scrubbed off ! Each track was different , unlike today's tracks which are all fairly uniform now. I raced for Moredon SSC and Mid Wilts SSC up until 1981 and they were great years , you could actually race on a budget then !
Hi Nick. Yes i was going thru some of Dad's old slides. So easy to scan these days! Ive got some trials ones from the Lyn trial and world round i need to upload....
Certainly some valleys but nowhere l've ridden in Wales, Was that Simon's birthday treat he's easiy spotted by his latest backpack. l was thinking well done for avoiding all the water traps and then at the end bloke on the XR made a wrong choice !
