You definitely need the 800-860 safety capacitor kit. You may have already gotten this because I noted your video was 1 year ago. I still have two of them if you need one. White capacitors mean trouble. Tripler was replaced (SK type number).
Back in the day when they called them RCA Victor. The peak of my servicing career. We were an authorized dealer for RCA, Zenith, Motorola/Quasar, Sony, Pioneer and Fisher
We used to clean the contacts where the modules plug in with DeOxIt. Highly recommended. If you can get your hands on a 9-147 module this is the upgrade for the 9-92 vertical deflection module.
I'm feeling the pain here, I have a HUGE paperweight because I can't find a 212-149 tripler, which has one more pin than this and seemingly not subs. I only wish to be knowledgeable enough to MacGyver something together that'd work haha Hope it's still working for you
Welp it pop the breaker on the back of the tv so hard that it broke lol I haven't looked into it yet. Someone commented on here somewhere you can easily make your own trippler. I was going to look into that and try it
@@MangieRaccoonsTech That's unfortunate to hear. For how great these CCII are said to be, triplers seem to be an achilles heel. I did just find the correct space command remote and bought it, which feels perfectly irrational LOL All the more papers that I can weigh down though.
I think i have the schematic for that TV somewhere. It's not so much "lucky," the Zenith with the fold down chassis was the best and easiest to work on back in the day. Great television and very popular with the Service Technicians of the day
I'm sure when that TV first came out The manufacturer/first owner had no idea the TV would ever be used in such a way. Turning it on with a voice command, that would be pure science fiction back then.
EDIT: RUB THE DOGGY lol I don't know why this gave me flashbacks to when I had to figure out how to connect an old game console to an old color TV that only had antenna connectors... and had to figure all this out without internet with everyone I knew having no idea either (the 90s).
Well, after getting this fixed, got it working. Trippler died and got that replaced. Worked good for a little bit, then it blew the breaker so hard it broke the breaker hahahah. I haven't looked into that yet.
Love your stuff!!! Hope you come back soon with more videos! The TVs are super engaging, have you considered shooting on tape? There's a lot of fun hardware that's to be found on the cheap out there!!
Thank you! I appreciate the positive vibs:D yeah I'll be back, been super busy. Hopefully will get some time to do more work. I got to fix both my zenith sets again hehehe. And that would be cool idea to shoot on tape for the fun of it! I'll keep my eye out for an old vhs camcorder hehehe
I am already seriously considering using Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal thermal paste on Ryzen Threadripper CPU I have so it doesn't cook itself when I chuck the heavy duty supercomputing tasks at it - I already decided to water cool both CPU and GPU so that way it's cooler and reliable over long term. That workstation is for both work and play, so there's that decision behind the cooling, I had to think about it seriously as Ryzen Threadripper CPU is a powerful chip, so it's best to keep it cooled down as well as I can.
That is a good question that many don't know about. Usually youre ok watching from the couch. One of the tubes that produced a lot of has a newer replacement that produces a lot less. You know if you got the older radiation king if the tube glows green XD
English: I have 8 questions 1. Where did you find that RCA Victor 60s' TV 2. When did you get that TV 3. Why not hook up a DTV box with an antenna #. Why would you hook up a gaming console anyway? 5. When you first got it did it work? 6. If it didn’t work when you first bought it, what was the problem? 7. As of February 2024, do you still own it, if so does it work? 8. You know you can just get a HDMI to RF adaptor right. Chinese (yes I live in China):
Welcome to the channel! 1. I found it for sale in town not too far from where I was living at the time 2. I got it about 9 years ago 3. I do have a DTV box hooked to it and watch OTA broadcast on it regularly 4. Just for fun XD 5. Sorta, had many problems and some still need fixed, like the focus coil. 6. Mostly just some faulty capacitors, few resistors, and carbon tracking 7. I still do own the TV and it still works great! 8. Indeed I do know, but I didn't have one and wanted to see if I could get it to work without one.
I have a 70's TV it doesn't work it's water damaged I found it in a like lake cannoe someone through it in i went back the next day it was washed up on the side I'm surprised its not like water worked cause it's real wood it was hard to get tho I still got it it of course didn't work so I use it as a tv stand I check if it works once every week or so
In the 60’s and 70’s Zenith had a better tv quality, without any maintenance need it or any broken parts. But talking about color quality, no one was better than the RCA tv. (Sorry because of my bad English).
Yeah, everyone who has seen the vintage RCA next to the Zenith has said the picture was better on the RCA. I wonder if it's because of the rare earth red in the picture tube. However, I think the zenith set still has a great picture and would have been really happy with that set new.
I've always found it so weird how black just looks black when you look at the screen. You can see that the screen is not very dark but when images are on screen it looks black. The picture looks great!
Zenith would never had made a modification of that vertical module in that manner. Never. That resistor doesn't go on the 9-92 module at all. It belongs BEHIND the board on the main chassis from that terminal to ground. The original must be open. Can't even believe you thought it goes on the module. When you installed it on the module as you did, you made that module work only on that set. Zenith would NEVER do that. The color of the module doesn't matter; If there was a modification of the module, Zenith would have labeled it as 9-92-01 or so. The 9-147 module is an exact replacement for the 9-92 and is indeed more durable and reliable. The "C" at the end of the part number is insignificant to the technician. Not familiar with Zenith products is evident.
Thanks for taking the time to explain. I did eventually figure all that out, took way too long. Did return the module to the original configuration and installed the resistor behind the chassis. And yes, this is my first zenith television.
Never any vert mods on these. Its best to update the vert module, if broken, with the updated 9-147 a much better module. Keep in mind the cut necks on Zenith are in the end caused by vert failure that puts DC on the yoke. So keep time on short with no vert sweep ! LFOD !
No. The cut picture tube necks are not caused by a failure of the vertical module. It was caused by a failure of the 4-lead capacitor in the horizontal section of the F-Line models originally outsourced by a different manufacturer, not Zenith. When it failed, the high voltage exceeded the operating parameters of the picture tube. Changed a few pix tubes and revised many chassis with the orange Sprague replacement 4-lead capacitor. I've never seen the orange Sprague 4-lead capacitor fail. Needless to say, the original manufacturer of the white 4-lead capacitor, soon went out of business.
17, 19, 23" & 25EC45 & FC45 Runs 401 & higher. Before run 401 4 or 5 22-5001 caps used. They like to open too ! Cap opens but interlock dont. HV skyrockets. Things start blowing. Vert fails & puts DC on the yoke. Turns the yoke into a cutting wire . Bottom line orange Sprague caps good, White American Radionics BAD !!!! Went to seminar at the time. They had a movie about it. Also in Zenith tech topics. BTW this also happened to Maggy T991 chassii CU later & LFOD
Thanks for the info! Took me a while but I did get my hands on a trippler for both the tabletop and console set. The console set went out and the replacement is already starting to show signs of failing.
dope! I just got a free mountgumrywards color tv it is so cool with the knobs looks like a freaken microwave lol reminds me of the simpsons so nostalgic put some 90s saturday morning cartoons on that
Sweet looking doggy! I cant wait to do this to my 80's tv! I'm waiting for my modulator to come in the mail. It's gonna be so cool watching Stranger Things and my favortite 70s and 80s shows and movies on it! Also 80s commercials. I also have an adorable German Shepherd and Lab Mix to watch with me :)
