This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily shut down. We've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on. It's been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!
I always come back to this song every once in a while. Very haunting and because of the echo, both the guitar and vocals sound ancient or ethereal. As if his voice is coming from the ether. Another song that does this, is john lee hookers “tupelo”. There is a black and white video on here of JLH singing this song with just vocals and guitar. It gives me the same feeling. Both are beautiful and haunting.
Always loved the moody feel of this. It was common to write songs about public events ("Tom Dooley" was based on a real one; "Staggerlee" probably as well). Some caught on, some not.
Richard Hewson. He'd really done a bad job. Too much is worst thant not enough. If I had heard this version at first, i would not be so interested by Nick. His music, lyrics, and way of singing is so beautiful and captivating. Here, it sounds like any other songs. I read in the bio of 2022 that Nick refused the music of Richard Hewson. He was right... He did not understand the spirit of Nick Drake.
John Renbourn is one that I come back all over again, enjoying his music for years and years! So sad that he and Bert Jansch were not recognized widely, as one of the best musicians of their time!
The genius of John Renbourn. I had the pleasure and good to fortune to have met him on a few occasions many years ago and to see him play live. His brilliant guitar playing has influenced my own and he will always be the the source of pure inspiration on 6 strings.
Not much to see here if you're a real fan. It's one of those artschool wankfests where an amateur filmmaker makes an amateur film about making an amateur film. Sort of meta-wankery if you will.
Another very early/rare recording. It is clear from this that that the first few notes of every verse line are played as guitar harmonics. I never noticed this on the final, released recordings. Superb.
Amazing poetry . This is what it feels like to be trapped in your mind and have depression . He shouldn't have offed himself . I'm sorry for the pain he must of felt in this world but at least he has left a legacy in his writing and music
I shared a flat with Nick and Kelly in Hampstead late '71. Kelly's friend Angelique quietly had a bit of a thing for Nick and was a regular visitor for a while. She was a photography student at the Hampstead Fine Arts College and she never went ANYWHERE without her 8mm Camera. (including once famously to the toilet which was hilarious - all in the name of art!!) I'm flabbergasted people always say there's never any footage of Nick - Angelique must have tons - she was quite infatuated and pretty mischievous with that damned 8mm. I bet there's heaps in the College archives too - most student assignments were held by the faculty unless special dispensation was sought. I've found a grainy clip of Nick at breakfast, which was a rarity in itself: ru-vid.comTi-Ne0mDUGo
It was whilst living in Royston on one of my daily trip out to Cambridge I picked up my first album by Nick Drake in a market just outside King College. The music tall owner played Five Leaves Left which rang throughout the lazy market, I had to ask and never turned back. Nick Drake from that day on has become part of my life.

I can't remember how long ago I discovered Nikes music. Early 90 at least. He has such a special sound for me. Very spiritual and haunting. Wish he had had more time with us. Peace and love ❤️ thanks Nike 8888
