I’ve been throwing javelin since my ( 12 yrs old )6th grade year competitively. I first picked a javelin up when I was maybe 4 or 5. I’ve had a love for the sport ever since I started. Personal best of 167’3 (50.97 meters ) hoping for more to come.

What grip do you use?

I use the American grip, index finger and thumb at the back of the grip

@@brandonr15010 TY, that's what I thought. I use the same but I think my hand isn't fully underneath and too much of my power goes into spinning the jav instead of throwing it.

Love it to see this progression of youngsters in only a couple of years :) Reminds me of the good old days.

Technique is pretty solid. A little more flexibility in the chest, lat will help the arm stay back a little longer, thus making a longer pull. Stay patient with the upper body, chest gets a little too far ahead. A tilt at the waist where your left hip leads towards the landing area and shoulders behind the center line of your body at a 25 to 30 degree angle should help keep you from leading with your chest. Solid work tho. Good luck

My coach and I have been working fairly hard on hesitating longer with the upper body and keeping the chest back a bit, thanks for the input 👍👍

@Brandonthrowsjav Best mental thinking for me was imagine a rope around the waist, and then someone yanks hard. Hips go first then upper body. That's what helped me out the most.

I really enjoy these progression videos. With your technical improvements, I wouldn't be surprised if you throw 200 feet this summer.

What a journey!! I'm curious about your practice schedule in the off-season, and roughly how much you practiced. I'm also wondering what age the national lead throw was. Thanks!...Not surprised you made varsity😂

I practiced about 2-3 days a week ( usually alternating between shot disc and jav ) for about an hour a day. The national lead i was 14 in 8th grade. The 2023 season just began and I’m gonna try and get another post up soon
