Want to discover a new hike, canyon, or adventure in Arizona?
We travel the state to find the best trails, the hidden gems, the beautiful views, and the best adventures you can have outdoors in Arizona. We also find the worst hikes-the ones that break your spirit, entangle you in endless catclaw, require heavy bushwhacking, or are overrated, dangerous, or just plain blah. Come see what we're up to before you plan your next adventure.
Happy hiking! If you ever see us out on the trail, say hello!
I knew better, but I did it anyway, so I deserved it. The new one is supposed to arrive today! Well, it's a refurbished one that Garmin traded me for a small fraction of what it would cost new.
Yeah they're invasive too. I certainly wouldn't say you ladies are BADASS sorry bout it LOL. Crawdads are destroying watersheds and entire ecosystems. this makes it obvious
You are so right, one of the most beautiful places in our state! We have dropped a vehicle where you parked , drove another to the headwaters near Tramway and gone down the canyon to Hanging Gardens. As always, thanks for sharing and Happy Hiking!
@@wildpathsaz In the 80s we did a two week trip, dropped in above the headwaters at Happy Jack. Went all the way down to the Gardens. Spent some extra time at Wilber Canyon. That was one of the best trips we’ve made. If I remember correctly the next year we did Mormon Lake to Payson, another epic trip. Gotta love Arizona!
@@rvtech101 we just did an overnight trip to Maiden Falls - they are much better in person than the pictures! West Clear Creek is an absolute gem, although we could have done with fewer daddy long leg spiders. Once we cleared them away enough to get in the tent, we knew we weren't coming out until morning no matter what 😆
@@wildpathsaz Lol,awesome, I’m jealous ! Scared of spiders, what are you, a bunch of gir, oops! Never mind! Did you spot any ringtail cats? We always come across them there, also over at Fossil Creek. We’re flipping a coin to go hike around Wet Beaver Creek or Blue Ridge Reservoir in a couple weeks. Glad you had fun, thanks for sharing! Happy Hiking!
Amazing Trek by fantastic and skilled Adventurers who show us the correct way to safely sojourn in the wilds of Arizona. I like the swimming holes best. Thank you for your trek video..!! Paka from Oahu, Hawaii
I know it can be a pain sometimes, but air down your tires some to make the rocky roads a little more bearable . Of course you need to have a air compressor to fill the tires back up once you get to the main road again. . Great video as always ladies.. 👍👍
I hope that blind dog found its home. I always thought slot rock referred to the slot on the right portion of the formation at 3:05 as opposed to the one you went through more left center. That’s what I go through when I have hiked here. Some dumb grafiti in there
Well, there are a lot of slot-like formations in the area and none have official names, so I guess it can be whatever you want it to be! 🤷♀️ We once climbed part way up the formations across the trail from the hand and found a deep chasm that we couldn’t see the bottom of. I vowed to bring a rope with me one day and explore it - I did go back and it was a very cool rappel. There were bolts, so we obviously were not the first. We popped out the bottom by the hand.
To answer your first question, badass. Definitely badass. Looks like another great trip. And when she said she’s “ putting pants on”, does she normally drive without pants? I’m intrigued. Thanks for sharing, looks like the boys and I are going to check it out.
😂😆🤣 Heather is known for wearing shorts any chance she gets LOL. So she just meant she was changing from shorts into pants because we weren’t sure how much bushwhacking might be on the trail.
Not for nothing, but my volume is up and my neighbors dog is going bananas and my son wants to know if I have a “ visitor “! What area is this, looks beautiful?
😂🤣😂 This is East Clear Creek - next to Blue Ridge Reservoir. It’s heavily infested, and I wore an extra layer just so they wouldn’t touch me because some reviews said they’re aggressive 😂
@@rvtech101 You take Highway 87 to Forest Road 95 (like 50 miles north of Payson) and follow that down to where it crosses East Clear Creek. Super nice paved parking - then we hiked over 4 miles along the creek to the Kinder Crossing Trail and followed forest roads back to our car.
I've only ever seen a few in all my hiking miles. It's definitely a lucky day when you do. Hey, so thanks for going back and watching our older, unpopular videos 🤣
Grow up ladies, people came to these videos to see nature not to see you getting undressed. If this is how much you respect yourself I am sorry for you. Have some modesty please.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. We have a certain style that includes both nature and trail shenanigans that reflect our personalities. Everything that happens is unscripted; however, we wouldn’t have included the clip if there was actual indecency. That being said, we also specifically tell RU-vid this video is not intended for children, so you have to use your own discretion. Some may feel we need to “grow up,” but we have a lot of fun out there, and we aim to both show nature and entertain. Our style won’t be for everyone (you aren’t the first), but there are plenty of other channels that just show nature, and I hope you find what you’re looking for with those. Thanks for the input and thanks for stopping by. Hope you get a chance to visit Fossil Springs, but be aware we saw some butt cheeks out there and they weren’t ours 😂
Sorry that happened to you. Luckily they didn’t actually undress 😌 They were wearing bathing suits since we had gone there to swim, and we were teasing our friend who took her shirt off because she felt it was too baggy and making her look fat in the pic. Appreciate the feedback.
There is the Vatican Observatory on top of Mt. Wrightson, but that access was closed due to some kind of endangered squirrels living there. We went there anyway, it was not worth the walk.
Are we talking about the same Mount Wrightson? This is the high point of the Santa Ritas in southern Arizona, and it used to be called Baldy. There was nothing but a small foundation at the top from a structure that used to be there. Great views from up there, and it looked like there may be an observatory on one of the neighboring peaks.
We did not see any roads, but I know there is a road to the top of neighboring Mount Hopkins. Could that be it? There was also a structure that looked like it could be an observatory up there. On top of Mount Wrightson, there was the foundation of some kind of structure that looks like it has been gone a long time.
Haven’t thought about that mountain in 30 years! If I remember correctly we intend on a 3 day trip, but got the heck out of there on the 2nd day instead. Literally hundreds of trips and that’s one of the few I don’t look back on fondly. Can’t specifically remember why, but I do know nobody from our group has returned to that spot. Love watching your videos, reminds me of the old gang that was at the core of our hikes. Keep it up , a lot of us look forward to your shenanigans, especially April. lol, I think I have a lil crush! Happy Hiking!
You should give it another chance! It’s such a nice hike in the forest if you take Old Baldy Trail, and there’s a nice spring along the way if you go during the right season. It was dry this time. Plus, we always see deer and lots of butterflies. Don’t care for the bugs at the top though! I don’t think it would necessarily make a great backpacking trip because we didn’t see much in the way of campsites, but I’m sure the other trails probably have options. I guess we’ll have to go and find out!
She is adorable! A lil unhinged, but adorable. We kind of ran into the same thing but with Monarch butterflies. Years ago at the 3rd saddle in Four Peaks. Millions of em. Apparently that is on their migration path from Mexico. One of the most beautiful things we’ve ever seen. Happy Hiking
Aw thank you! These ones didn’t seem to be leaking anything on my friend, thankfully. It’s a little weird that she loves these beetles so much, but they don’t ever seem to mind, and they haven’t hurt her at all.
Yes, between April 1 and October 1 you need a permit to hike Bob Bear trail. They become available a month in advance. Visit recreation.gov to get one!
It's far easier to have a stick with a forked end and be ready to pin it either by the head or body if it tries to attack. Be the predator not the prey, you have a massively intelligent brain, slow down and don't allow panic to override your coherent decision making. If you don't feel one stick is enough, have two ready, face your fear because ultimately facing them makes you better at dealing with them until they change from being a fear to a healthy respect for its abilities. This is what all service people (fire fighters, police, military) do. Clearly it's terrifying to run into a burning building, but with the right equipment, exposure and reassurance that you can overcome the fear, that's exactly what happens, you grow and overcome, ultimately making you a stronger person. Running around the snake trying to clamber over rocks in a panicked state could have very easily resulted in a slip, bang on the head and even hyperextension or broken ankle. That's how fear can overcome your rational decision making. I can't say this enough, step back, slow down, think about how to extend your arms reach and maintain control over the subject. Those jelly legs full of adrenaline almost let you down, falling into or around the snake head first wouldn't have been a good thing. Kudos to you both though, you got past and neither yourself or the animal was hurt. Great video.
Thanks for the advice - I'm not sure I would be confident I could use a stick to defend against a strike because they happen so fast. I also don't think running past would have really been effective either. Luckily, this guy was stretched out long on some bushes by the time we passed him, so he wasn't in the best striking position. We definitely would have chosen to just avoid him completely if we could, but the nature of the trail made that impossible. We're all safe, and now we have a memory, so that's good.
I was unsure, too, and we only did that one because we could combine it with the canyon. It was so much better than I expected. The views were incredible along the AZT and again going down Y Bar. I didn’t understand some of the complaining on the reviews - it was a good trail, coming down at least. The ponderosas were a bonus.
This was on Barnhardt Trail, which made it super tricky to get around him. At one point, he came out and headed straight for me. I left poor Fawn in the bushes alone. It was pretty scary! Check out our new long format video for the whole story 🤣😨
@@wildpathsaz Did you make it to the cabin? I haven’t done that trail in eons, but the boys want to do it. Maybe in the fall. We ran into a diamondback while looking for a cave a few miles from the Lava Tube. Well over 4 foot and fat. Gonna go watch your video, Happy Hiking!
@@rvtech101 we did not make it to the cabin. I'm assuming you're referring to Club Cabin? Not this trip, but my uncle is an old timer, and he keeps bringing it up as a place we should visit. If you go, let me know how it is!
@@wildpathsaz Lol, apparently I’m old because I’ve been there quite a few times in the 80s and 90s. There’s a spring in the area as well. I’ve talked about the area enough the boys want to check it out, so maybe in the fall when it cools off. We just did the Lava Tube near Flagg, along with about a hundred other people! Been going there since the 70s and I have never seen it so crowded! Still an amazing place.
What the hell is wrong with RU-vid’s algorithm! Your videos are amazing and I can’t believe you have less than a 1,000 subscribers! Keep on posting ladies!! 👏🏼🔥🎯
So nice of you to say! I guess we haven't figured out the secret yet, but at least we're having fun. Thank you so much for the encouragement... we'll get there one day!
We tried to get some video of it, but it was mostly obscured by the bushes next to the trail. Maybe next time! (Hopefully there won't be a next time, but we all know there will be)
Ladies, rattlers can jump half their body length. At times, they also travel in pairs. There may have been a female in those bushes. Thank you again for an awesome adventure. Be well, be safe... happy many continued adventures. My daughter loves your channel. LOVES!
I know, that’s what made it so scary! Our options were very limited because the mountain is steep and bushy both to the left and right, so you can’t really hike around. We waited a good 15 minutes but he didn’t look like he was going anywhere, and it looked like his hole might’ve been right on the trail. Luckily he did go into the bushes and we could see him lying straight, parallel to the trail. We had maybe 4 feet of clearance when we ran past.
