Being alive is completely incredible when you start looking at it from the chemical level. This channel seeks to explore the rich complexity of life through the lens of biochemistry.
We're using animation to break down complex concepts in one of the most exciting fields of research today. Our main goal is to serve as a bridge to help you start studying this incredible area of study.
I just found your channel and I love it, you’re great at explaining complex ideas. So I’d like to pose a question. How do extremophiles do it? I’d be very interested to learn more about the evolution of them, more specifically the chemical and biological interactions that take place for them to survive. Seriously, thank you for making these videos, and thank you to all your supporters.
If this amazing, intricate, complicated level of beautiful sophistication is necessary for even the smallest, simplest, "primitive" forms of life, how did this complicated machinery necessary for even the simplest one-celled organisms happen by chance and arise from randomized non-life materials? If it takes a "machine" to replicate DNA, where did the first machine come from?
There are so many great theories and frameworks evolutionary biologists are using to answer that very question. One key that we'll explore in later videos is that maybe we think about the Central Dogma in the wrong way. Maybe RNA has been the main character all along.
@@Clockworkbio Hey thanks for the quick reply! Awesome! I look forward to the videos and discussions on that. For me that is the main issue I'm trying to think through right now: origins. I haven't been able to logically piece together and come up with a model of how even if life could spontaneously arise from non-living matter, how could it be structured in a way that would allow itself to reproduce. And doesn't RNA itself need to be produced by a host of other cells, molecules, and biological "machines"? Ah, my head just keeps spinning.... Anyway, looking forward to the upcoming videos, these are excellent.
my brother @clockwork , plz plz compare this with how our skin turns sunlight to VitD. it should be epic to see how similar we are with our other branch in the family tree. uve changed my life experience completely.
I don't need to remember it as Cyt bf because "Cytochrome" is already kind of a badass name that sticks in your head. Guessing the "bf" has to do with the fact that this is the plant version rather than the human version.
Biological dentists are against fluoride as they consider the effect on the whole body. Making the teeth, and bones, stronger does not make them better - rather more brittle. Look at the increased rate of hip fractures linked to fluoride exposure. How can an accurate, individual dose be delivered via the water supply when some people drink over 10 times as much as others? If the "optimum dose" is in the water then other sources of fluoride needlessly add to the risk of over exposure. Politicians regularly claim that protecting the Public is a top priority. Those advocating for fluoridation have totally failed in their Duty of Care to protect Public Safety on this issue and have lamentably failed to ensure that it complies with Medical Safeguards. Any ONE of the following Red Flags should have been sufficient to halt fluoridation in its tracks. No medication is deemed to be safe for everyone. This denies people their Individual Right of Informed Consent. No control over the dosage any individual receives. Prescribed medications would normally consider the person's needs and take into account their age, sex, weight, ethnic group, medical history, allergies etc. Fails to provide the normal Medical Safety Margin. Lacks a Medical Product's Licence. Even when sourced from air pollution scrubbers it is not purified to Pharmaceutical Standards, so contains a cocktail of contaminants, including heavy metals and other neurotoxins. Can be seen to have had no real impact on reducing dental decay: fluoridealert.org/news/data-shows-tooth-decay-declined-regardless-of-fluoridation/ The treatment can’t be readily changed or stopped. This treatment is only intended for children, whose teeth are developing, so the majority of the population are needlessly exposed to its toxic effects. Not under Medical Supervision. Ignores the clear warning on the Safety Data Sheets for the fluoride compounds used - where they are classified as "Hazardous" and specifically stipulates that it "SHOULD NOT BE SWALLOWED." Over 40% afflicted with dental fluorosis, the first sign of chronic fluoride poisoning. www.fluoridelawsuit.com/science ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-scazEGy3Feg.html facebook.com/reel/1460760591326622
At 12:30 shouldn't it be 2 water molecules instead of 4? It takes four charges of energy to rip two water molecules into one O2 molecule , four e- and four H+, right? As one water molecule gives us a singlet oxygen, two protons and two electrons?
What an incredible video, can't believe i was shown it only now. Pleeeease, please don't stop making content - this kind of higher level, in-depth videos without dumbing down is so incredibly needed. I'm going to pester my colleagues to show their students.
3:24 For the stroma and lumen: stroma is “strong” so it can stay outside, lumen is “light” which you would need in a dark room. This doesn’t tell you much about them, but it’s what i could think of
Thanks for this amazing video and for all the others you make! This subject is similar to this other video from Smarter Every Day : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VPSm9gJkPxU.html
