I like how the Sox were not like other Chicago teams (ex. Bulls when MJ came back as a Wizard) and actually gave Abreu a nice tribute. I also like how Gene Honda made it sound like we would cheer for Abreu instead of saying his name like every other Astros player. And that’s for a good reason, Jose was arguably our best player in the 2010s. As a Sox fan, we just lost a bloody good player.
I can't tell you how many hours were spent in the backyard telling my dad to throw grounders as far away from me as possible so I could track those mfers down, backhand em, spin and throw em over either in the air or on my knees just like my hero Rey Ordoñes. I will admit I was upset when he went from #00 to #10 thinking it was going to help his bat somehow...I remember getting to Shea Stadium early so we could get autographs. I got to meet Rey a number of times and I was just in awe of him, got his autograph a couple times, he was really cool, those memories at Shea Stadium will stay with me forever. I went to the last opening day, the last game ever played, the first ever game at Citi Field, I named my son after a Mets player, after the last game at Shea I kissed both orange foul poles (the only stadium in the league that they aren't yellow, as well as Citi). I guess I say all of that to say this... 🟦🔵LET'S GO METS!!🟠🟧
Would love to see what we could do in a full season of batting lefty. He has so much more power from that side of the plate and also seems like he sees the ball a lot better.
