On the BiTTE, a podcast that delivers an alternative take on film reviews, uncovering everything from arthouse to mainstream cinema (without taking ourselves too seriously). Self-confessed cinephiles: Anthropologist Laura and Filmmaker Ryan expose the films brave enough to have their actors bare all!
love this movie. if you are looking for more naked men in cinema you should check out the films of Derek Jarman Sebastiane 1976 the story of St Sebastiane "Reassigned to a lowly outpost, a Roman guard's Christian beliefs clash with his gay commander's desire for closeness. Being tortured becomes pleasurable" this is one i saw in the early 80's when channel four showed a slew of arthouse movies the same reason i found the films of peter greenaway
@@punkratsxxx we have the Kino double disc blu-ray release. Theatrical and Directors Cut, 2 commentaries, 1 with the writer and 1 with the director. No other extras though. We had to dig for some featurettes and BTS info but if you want to watch the movies in HD it's a fine package.
I agree the cinematography in this movie was so gorgeous and then y’all brought up what I forgot- the juxtaposition of this beautiful setting with the hilariously gruesome scene w/ Papa Gleeson (love that moniker btw!) bleeding all over the table conducting his students! Also, the figures of the banshees (or was it just the one old lady?) was so creepy and yet so magical. It reminded me of the witches in Macbeth, kind of.
Purely coincidentally, not knowing you had this in the pipeline, I watched this two weekends ago. It did take me two evenings because I’m an old lady who falls asleep at 9pm, but when I finished…MY HEART. It was so good I restarted it to try and notice more of the nuances early on and set-up. You guys are SO funny! I listened to this in the car this morning and was cracking up. Also, I love learning and I love movies, and you guys have struck a great balance here with knowledge, fun-facts and film analysis. I also allowed myself to let the ending of this movie be ambiguous. I think it’s really interesting it could be up in the air the circumstances surrounding Jack’s demise. Now hearing your thoughts, I lean more towards Laura’s perception that Lureen likely knew/found out about Jack’s secret life once he got caught and was the victim of a hate crime, and the exploding tire story was a cover up. I don’t know a lot about script-writing, but I read the short story and I have to say the screenplay adaptation seems so perfect. The story was lovely. You guys rock!
Wow, thank you, Kaylan!! I (Laura) noticed you watched it and we already had this one recorded. I'm so glad you liked the episode, and that's such a nice thing to say and exactly what we are going for. Also, Brokeback is SO GOOD 😭
