I am an almost forever GM. When I have the chance to play, I think my character are actually rather … mary-sue-ish … now as you say it 🤔 mhmm. Maybe I have to play more often.
Regis really sounds like the Ultimate DMPC. A level 20 half vampire who ends up killing the party and reveals new moves whenever things go wrong for him
i dont think idealistic self inserts are neccesarily bad. I couldnt enjoy rpgs if i was playing someone entirely else because i cant relate to most "normal" characters. If i cant relate to it, then why would i care what happens to them right. But making it 100% perfect is braindead. I cant imagine someone playing the perfect character and enjoying it. As you said its boring, it is fucking boring. I dont even think its about having flaws its just the making them perfect part. My characters might be better than me in ways i want them to be better than me, its an rpg after all where you play "THE HERO" but they are not perfect, unless they are lv 20. If a character is perfect in a lot of ways than that has to be a god or smth. To be handsome, strong, and all that you have to have all your stats over 25. My wizard is not handsome, his charisma is 10. If someone really thinks playing a mary sue is fun then that person is mentally 5.
Hey heartbreak sucks. It is easy to say don't worry about it. But it really helps to distract yourself and time helps too. It is now probably slightly better then what it felt like 2 weeks ago when you uploaded the video. And you are a good looking guy.
She's Lloths daughter. When Lloth was punished for her transgressions (along with the rest of what would become the Drow Pantheon) Eilistraee was the only one not punished and was allowed to remain but elected to join her mother in hopes of bringing her back to the light.
Yeah, because she didn't rebel when others did. And even though she chose to be banished along with the others, her father Corellon still has a position for her in the main Elven pantheon. In fact, some settings just automatically include her in the Elven pantheon, and have knowledge of her very existence among the Drow heavily suppressed, since it would only increase escape attempts.
I'm currently in a campaign as a Goliath Monk/Cleric who exclusively fights without weapons and tries to get the whole party to do an unarmed strike at least once. He also wrote a book of martial arts and mass produced it for the town's citizens for them to learn martial arts 😆 he even killed a Goliath pirate who betrayed the party strictly because he threatened him with a sword
On the dynamic environment point, if your players aren't using them, you can also have the enemies use them. Maybe they are the ones to chug a potion or kick a barrel over to make difficult terrain.
I definitely need more pointers in making combat more exciting for i have been told i "don't get combat". It hurts me as a dm to hear that from my players and yet, they keep coming back

@ExperienceDND If your goal is to tell a great story, talk to your players. They want to have fun and do cool things too. Collaborative storytelling works well when both sides know what's going on in the game. You don't have to tell them beat for beat, but they'll appreciate having a say in the storytelling
Hey, great video as always! I was wondering if you could spare a bit of time to give me some advice. I’ve been DMing this campaign for over two years, it’s full howbrew of my design. I feel like things have slowed down in the last few months. For example, combat is less exciting than it used to be, even though it’s a bit better now that I’ve introduced more elements to it (similar to those suggested in this video). On the other side, that’s pretty much all they do since they don’t really do the social aspects of dnd and roleplaying. I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t tried enough or they aren’t interested. All of this to say that I’m not sure if I should try to push roleplaying for a game or two to see if they like it (I’m not sure if it’s even possible since they never really act in-character), or if I should just try to continue improving combat, what they seem to enjoy the most. Any thoughts? On a completely different note, I remember you talking in previous videos about how you want this channel to be like a community, so I was wondering if there was something along the lines of a discord server for this channel that viewers could join. Regardless of all my previous rambling, thank you for the great videos!
For your first question, in my experience people that don’t roleplay either don’t get the opportunity to (players speaking over them or dm does not provide opportunities) or they don’t like role playing period. Remember DND first came out as a dungeon delving game without any role playing. Many people just like rolling dice, killing stuff and getting treasure. If your players are like this I would focus on making a dope dungeon for them to go through. However I also want u to enjoy the game. As the DM you can add your own flair to it (kinda like a musician to his music or an artist to their art). Despite this if you think some of them like roleplaying I would try to introduce NPCs and see if they engage with role playing. If they don’t you know they like the exploring and combat side of dnd. I used to have a discord server but I deleted it. I will deffo think of making one in the future once we have a lot more like minded people (like yourself 😊) join our community guild! The last character I made was mute. He had stolen the ancestral armor to proven that he was worthy of wearing it. The family would not let him wear it as he was flawed; mute. Yeah, I know, stealing the armor to prove he is worthy is kind of oxymoronic, but it what it is! It was memorable for me and my team. It was also a major hook for the DM.
I once played in a game where we were running from a Bodak, but any time we went to sleep, it reset a time loop. I wound up with 5 levels of exhaustion before we managed to break free of the cycle.
I'm curious what would happen if a Werewolf and a Dhampir mated and have a child what powers and abilities would that child inherit what species would it be ❓
Because I thought we would have 5 hours of game, i kinda rushed. Just like hazbin hotel does. Now I must say : take your time. It’s okay to not make everything complete. Or else it will be frustrating and confusing. Now I just have to take my time.
Good video as always! Found your channel a few months ago and it’s already one of my favorites. Honestly, now that most Dnd channels are covering the new features, it’s nice to see one that focuses on aspects that affect many games and what we can do to make them better. Keep it up!
The Witcher has such great character development, it’s the reason I get sucked into side quests lol. First game I started playing and immediately bought the DLCs.
I GM Blades in the Dark. But the topic of pacing and player agency is so important in every TTRPG. Emotions are very hard to emulate at the table. But if it happens, it’s amazing. To have an interesting story, to me is so important. My players are bored too if there is no story to explore. So many GM’s on the internet don’t understand how or why story is so important to some groups. Thank you for sharing. I would watch your videos even if you would be a reptilian or a robot or both. Don’t worry 🤗 Unfortunately there is no cure for heartbreak. You can only try to distract yourself. Leave the house. See other people. Play more DnD or learn I new system and play more of that. Get another job. Anything. Extra points if it gives you positive feedback. And try not to worry too much. Some worrying is natural though. Have a great day!
